The Ultimate Stomach Bug @ Disney Thread

DH and I were there Dec 1 - Dec 8 and both of us had a bad cold with cough all week but we kept going. I got it before we left and DH got it from me after we got there. We ran into lots of people coughing and hacking so it must be a bad outbreak. I was waiting in line for the bathroom in Epcot and a lady came running in saying she was going to throw up. I got the heck out of there. We didn't have any stomach problems while we were there and we ate at a number of the buffets. It's still better to be sick in WDW than be well at home IMHO.

DMom came home with a pretty icky head cold, DS has a runny nose, I had a very slight cough for a few days while there and my grampa threw up on our last full day, but I attribute that to his "iron stomach" and eating things that were probably past their prime. Good luck!

I think people are more likely to post that they got sick than to post that they didn't. That's probably why it seems like a lot of people are getting sick down there. Just take all of the standard precautions and you should be fine. We spent 10 days in December 2 years ago and none of us got sick. Have a good time!:)

Here now at CSR. My Dad definitely has some sort of tummy issue, but everyone else seems A-OK... don't think it's a virus.

We were there from 11/30 to 12/5 and none of us got sick. We did run into one little girl throwing up in the ladies room near the entrance to O'Hana at the Poly while we were waiting for our ADR at Kona Cafe. But her mother said she had just eaten too much.

I was there 12/3-12/7 at CSR & did not get sick thankfully.

I am one of "those people" who lysol down the whole room before I touch anything.

I washed my hands every chance I got & used hand sanitizer before meals.

Throw in some good luck & no sickies!

Enjoy your trip.

Party of five, visited first week of December, and none of us got sick. No stomach issues and not even so much as a sniffle during our WDW vacation, nor after we returned home. We were staying at the Poly resort, and never noticed anyone being sick at our resort (I know others have posted about numerous ill guests staying in specific resorts).

I did over-hear a Mom in one of the parks talking about how her son was being such a 'good sport' and not whiny, despite having a severe stomach virus and being dragged around the parks all day. UGGH! The poor kids was too sick to complain (let alone enjoy the park)... and he was probably spreading those nasty germs to everyone immediately behind them in line. If your child does get sick while at WDW, please please be thoughtful (and exercise a bit of common sense)--just let them rest in the room for a day or so and keep them well hydrated.

We live in GA, haven't been to WDW since the end of September, and had the stomach virus almost two weeks ago.... I'm feeling cheated though... I got the doggone virus and didn't even get the trip to WDW!!!

4 of us here 12/7-12/13 ... My son got it first Tuesday evening. We thought it was food poisioning until both my husband & I got it last night. My mother (the 4th of our party) had some issues when my son first got it, but not the heinous vomiting that the rest of us experienced. If you do get it, it's a pretty quick mover in our experience - over in 24 hours. (Oh - we're staying off site & have had minimal contact with food in the parks.)

It certainly hasn't been the Disney trip I planned for, but what are you gonna do? :sad1:

I am also one of "those people". Lysol and Clorox wipes are on my packing list. I always clean everything as soon as I arrive. I can't help it, I have a vomit phobia! I'll run from any sick person, even my kids! If someone is sick in my family, they get quarantined in their bedrooms. :guilty: (I really do love my family!)

we were there from 11/29-12/8 and noone in our group got sick!! I brought plenty of hand san as well.

We're just curious. We're supposed to leave tomorrow and all we keep hearing about it a stomach virus outbreak down there. Anyone able to not get it?

I've bought out my local grocers supply of hand sanitizer!

DH and I were there 12/1 to 12/8 and neither of us got sick!

We got back home on 12/9 and last night my sister and I both got insanely sick (vomiting and diarrhea). Are a lot of people getting this too?

We live in Jacksonville, FL. My DD had this the week before we went to WDW. Then DH and I got it too. So, it must be other places too and not just WDW. We went to WDW on Dec. 9th and came back fine.

There is a serious winter vomiting virus prevalent here in the UK at the moment, whole hospital wards are having to be closed due to it - bring together 400+ people on an 8 hour flight and I wouldn't like to clean the toilets afterwards ! It only takes one person to be infectious on the aircraft, that's the one reason I don't like long flights, even though I use hand gel and antibacterial wipes on every surface I can, it's the little things like the plastic wrappers on the blankets etc.
I wouldn't go on a winter cruise either - a norwalk outbreak onboard ship affects everyone.

We were there Thanksgiving week and none of us got sick. Two years ago on our last trip me and my then DD7 did get the stomach flu and had to drive home from Florida to Upstate NY with it, throwing up the whole way (not a fun trip, but DH had to get to work the next day.). May I offer a tip to everyone that we have since learned. Many people, us included, go wash up before dinner. We then would head to the buffet lines and touch several serving spoon handles before starting to eat our meal. We would eat or bread with our hands that had touched all those serving spoons which were touched by many people before us. So, after returning to the table from the buffet line and before eating, use the hand sanatizer. Wash away all the germs that are no doubt on those serving spoons and transfered to your hands. It may be a little annoying to do, but so is the stomach bug on your vacation!

We were there 11/28 thru 12/6. Our youngest was sick from Wed - Fri with the stomach virus. It didn't seem to slow him down too much, but I did get thrown up on twice, and my wife narrowly missed the third. In between those instances he really seemed ok. My wife did hear people at the BC talking about their kid being up all night throwing up. Fortunately we didn't have it that bad. We kept waiting for the other two kids to get sick, but they didn't. The grossest (well, other than being thrown up on twice) part of our trip was our ride on Pirates. The front seat reeked of vomit. We told the CM when we got off and he looked at us like we had two heads. Hope everyone headed down stays well.

I just returned on wed. tuesday morning at 5am I was soooooooooo sick that I wished we could have stayed another day. I thought that I got food poisoning. I have never in my life been this sick. We had to drive home too, which I think was worse then anything. I had bags ready, but I didnt need them. the only really suggestion I could give is WASH YOUR HANDS!! Also buy some of those wet ones that they sell at walmart or target, use them often. just think about how many people probably touched that bus seat that you will probably touch! YUCK!!

11/30-12/5

not sick at all. (i'm also pretty careful about washing my hands before i eat, especially at a theme park). had the muffuletta and some beignets at port orleans, the lamb and chicken plate at tangierine cafe in epcot, the buffet at boma, scallops at jiko, sushi at kimono's, red snapper at spoodle's, breakfast at olivia's cafe and catfish at coral reef in epcot. it was a very yummy trip...

5 of us--12/6-12/9 stayed at SSR and only ate on property---no problems here. No one got sick at all.:goodvibes :thumbsup2

We were there thanksgiving week as well but I bought the kids little hand sanitizers that they could attach to their belts and I carry one in my bag. Not only did I wash my hands many many times so much so that they were chapped as all get out but I did as one of the other posters said. I would go to the buffets but then use the sanitizer before I ate my food. NONE of us got sick although my dad did complain one day that his stomach was bothering him but he has a bad stomach anyway and I don't think it was from the food because my dh and I ate the same hamburgers for DHS as he did and we were fine.

I think what others have said holds true. Just wash your hands as much as possible and use the hand sanitizer but sometimes you just can't help it because it is in the air so it is just luck!
