Iwas at the second Boston show on Thursday night and I really can't find the words to say how freakin' amazing it was!! Our seats were great, right on the side of the stage, about 15 feet away over the Bud Light sign over the doorway where they came out. There wasn't anyone in front of us, just a railing, so we could see pretty much everything. When I saw Bono walk out from under us to head to the stage, I thought I would pass out. Fortunately, I did not and had the best concert experience ever of my entire life!! The band was on fire, the crowd was really into it, and the setlist was everything I could have wanted. In addition to the songs they've been doing most nights, we got "Gloria;" we got "With or Without You;" we got "OUT OF CONTROL (!!!);" we got "Original of the Species." The last two seemed to be last minute decisions by Bono, since Edge had to scramble to get the right guitar for OOC and remember how to start it as Bono asked the crowd to "give us a minute." Bono had said to the band "Don't you think this crowd is out of control? Out of control? Adam Clayton, out of control?" and then Adam started the bass line to it while Edge changed guitars and figured out where he was. After that, Bono introduded "Original of the Species," dedicating it to all those "with a baby in their belly" and poor Edge had to drop the guitar and hightail it up to the piano. Bono apologized to Edge during a break in "Original", saying "Sorry Mr The Edge for not warning you!" The band genuinely seemed to be having a great time. After one of the songs during the encore, don't remember which, Bono walked over to Larry and pumped both fists with a huge smile on his face, like he was psyched that they were giving us such an amazing show and getting such a thunderous response. Then when I thought it couldn't get any better they closed with an extended version of "Bad," one of my all time favorites. They kept it going for a while, with Bono even bringing a girl up from the bomb shelter to slow dance, taking off his glasses and giving her a kiss (lucky!) and then later throwing in a few "How long to sing this song" choruses from "40". After the band left the stage the final time, the crowd started up again with "40," but they didn't come back although the lights stayed off for a bit.
BTW, before the show started but after the opening act, my husband saw Steven Tyler come out from the bomb shelter (we were right next to the entrance to it) and walk under us to go backstage, but I wasn't looking in that direction and by the time he saw Steven it was too late for him to point him out to me.
