Late Night With U2

NBC's 'Late Night With Conan O'Brien' on Thursday is a U2 special.

As the band arrive in New York City for seven sold out shows at Madison
Square Garden, they will spend an entire hour on O'Brien's show and are
expected to perform a bunch of songs live.

The show has never before been devoted to one act. Closest parallels include a surprise performance by Bruce Springsteen before taking "Late Night" drummer Max Weinberg on the road, a week-long stay by The White Stripes and a month-of-Tuesdays with The Strokes.

Catch U2 on 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien' on NBC this Thursday. (12:35-1:35am.)

Cinmell those sure were awesome seats! I thought of you this morning when I checked out the setlist from last night's show and saw that Crumbs was on it. Sounds like a great time!

I am going to be watching Ticketmaster over the next few months, hoping they release more tickets for December so I can go one more time. I've already got babysitters lined up just in case.

The seats were awesome thanks to Larry and his presale opportunity for former Propaganda members.

Keep checking ticketmaster, they had several ticket drops last week for the boston 10/3, 10/4 and some October NYC shows. Don't give up! And, I had to pick my tickets for Monday's show up at the Will Call Window and people were walking right up to the window next to us buying tix so there were available before the show (day of the show).

Conan to Turn Entire Show Over to U2
Tuesday October 4 4:47 PM ET

In his 12 years in charge of booking musical guests on Conan O'Brien's "Late Night," Jim Pitt always listed U2 and Johnny Cash as the dream artists he'd tried but never succeeded in getting. He lost his chance with the late Cash, but the U2 dream is coming true Thursday in a major way. O'Brien will turn over his entire show to the band, which is in New York for seven sold-out engagements at Madison Square Garden.

"We were able to offer them something to feel enough like an event for them to do the show," Pitt said. "It's basically `Late Night with Conan O'Brien,' the U2 edition."

The NBC show has never before devoted itself entirely to a musical guest, although it gave major time a few years back to a holiday appearance by bandleader Max Weinberg's other employer, Bruce Springsteen.

O'Brien's a big U2 fan, and made a personal connection by talking at length with Bono during breaks in rehearsals for the band's "Saturday Night Live" appearance last season, Pitt said.

It may be a nervous time for Bono, who is nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for his work in trying to ease Third World poverty. People who watch the Nobel closely list the lead singer as one of the favorites. The winner is expected to be named Friday.

The band is expected to perform three songs and be interviewed by O'Brien.

Pitt is not pushing for any material in particular.

"When U2 decides they want to come on the show for an hour, you don't get too picky about what they play," he said.

Hi all,
Sorry it's been so long since I've posted. I had emergency gallbladder surgery and I'm still trying to get back on my feet. As if the surgery wasn't bad enough, I am now Vertigoless as well!!! I went to my last show 11/4 in Vegas. Ok, I know, I shouldn't complain since I was fortunate enough to see 4 shows this tour but it still bums me out to think the only chance of seeing them next year is to fly out of the county.

Here's some pic's I took at the 11/2 Los Angeles show. After waiting 5 hours, we were lucky enough to get within touching distance....wooohoooo!!

So, did anyone else pick up the Live in Chicago DVD???

Wow, Dizneyholic those are some amazing photos!!! I'm sure it was worth the 5 hour wait to be that close.

I got to see 2 shows this tour 5/26 and 10/3, both in Boston, but I'm watching Ticketmaster hoping for a ticket drop for the 12/4-12/5 shows.

I haven't gotten the DVD yet because I know someone will want to get it for me for Christmas. I'm getting my Vertigo fix from the bootlegs of the concerts I went to. I've heard it's a great DVD, though.

Great pics! My last show is coming up fast, 12/5 in Boston. I'm excited but kind of bummed b/c I'll have no more shows to look forward to after that!

I lucked out completely, and in the most dire of circumstances. One of my very dear friends hurt himself the night before they were supposed to drive to Tampa to come to see this leg of the tour. His wife called me up and invited me. I can't say that I was a big U2 fan before, but I'm certainly a fan now. I was 4 people from the elipse in GA standing room area, and had a FANTASTIC
view!

Cinmell, here's the setlist from the band's website. I didn't get to go, but read about it on the website. Apparently they surprised everyone and came back for an extra encore after the lights came on. It was such a huge surprise that some fans who were reporting on the concert for the fan club board had already left! Have a wonderful time tonight!! What songs are you hoping for?
