The Twelve Days of Swinter: From Castaway 'Key' to a Partridge in a Palm Tree!

I loved all the fun pictures at MK. They make me wish I was going to Disney next week instead of Sept..

Your DD is a cutie and I love her freckles, of course one of the reasons is I have freckles. I even ask a teaser one time if she was jealous because she was not lucky enough to have them.

I must be an even bigger chicken than you are since I have done Splash Mt and BTMRR each only one time and I bet I could give you a good run for your money with the screaming

Have never eaten at CHH but it does look good, almost wish we were dong a CS on MK day but we will be eating at LTT for lunch and Tony's for dinner.

Looks like your day so far was just Great! Love the scarey pics of you guys :thumbsup2

Ugh! I just don't tolerate mean kids very well at all!!!
As a teacher when I hear this stuff, I try to nip it in the bud....

I'll just say you all are the ride ninjas! The only time we've had low crowds like that are late at night or early morning. Never in the middle of the day!
I can't believe how those guys were acting at CHH! That was totally uncalled for! YUCK!

I totally agree. If there's a spider in my room I won't go in there and if I see one anywhere in the house i'm like MAMMY GET RID OF IT and i'm 26 :rotfl: I hate crawlies in general. There was a cockroach in our hotel room in 2010 one night when we got home and Momma had to get rid of it but I didn't sleep all that night because i couldn't figure out how it got in and I kept getting up checking behind things to see if there was anymore of them :rotfl:

No worries and vent away. It's terrible the way kids bully each other like that.

Oh no! I don't blame you! Roaches and any other kind of nasty bugs are so gross to me. I wouldn't have slept a wink either! I get paranoid over that stuff and I feel like they are crawling all over me. And I'm paranoid over bed bugs too. I check the bed every time we stay in a hotel!

My mom would always tell me they must have something really bad in their lives to make them want to hurt someone else. Hind sight is always 20/20, at the time I was miserable, but as I got older I grew to appreciate the experience. I have a fabulous life now, with amazing friends, and am very happy. I feel a lot of bully stems from parents who don't teach their kids proper manners (but what do I know I am childless). I hate your DD is being picked on, but at least it is not constant and she seems to know it is wrong. You should be proud of her! Truly a believer in what doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

I agree. All this kind of stuff builds character. I just wish it was easier for kids to see bullies for what they are. It is just so hard when you are little and don't know anything about life.

I am in awe of how much you got accomplished! BTMR is one of our favorite rides too. I love to go on it at night. My mom is not a big ride person either, but she loves it as well. We did a girls only trip in 08 and my mom went on every single ride, she was shocked at how much she loved Mission Space (intense) and RnRC, my sister and I love all rides and she didn't want to be left out. However if the opportunity to go with another non-rider friend ever presented itself again she would probably sit out lol.

I am just like your mom. I am a ride chicken, but I don't want to be left out. I want my DD to look back on our trips and know that BOTH her parents did stuff with her. Yay for your mom being brave! I really do know what a challenge that can be.

I love the photopass shot. I have always wanted one there, but have yet to see a photographer.

That was the first time we had seen anyone there too. Maybe she was out b/c the next day was Halloween? Or maybe b/c there was a party that night?

I just love BTMRR!! :thumbsup2 I am so bummed that it will be closed in May. :sad2: Thanks for sharing your ride with us!! :goodvibes The last couple of times we have done BTMRR the wait time has said 20 minutes when in-fact there is no wait at all. I just love that!

You really got a lot done that afternoon. I am so impressed, especially after the night you had the night before. :scared1: I think I would have been in the bed for about 24 hours after an incident like that.

We've never been to CHH. We need to check it out sometime. Hopefully we won't fun into the dining neighbors you had.

I love the HM photopass shots! We've never seen a photopass photographer there. DS10 would love to get that picture done there!!

Looking forward to hearing about your evening. popcorn::

Oh Shelly that really stinks! I hate that BTMRR will be closed for your trip. We have had the best luck with refurbs so far. The only major attraction that has ever been closed while we were there was Space Mt. and that wasn't a big deal b/c that one pushes the limits for me. I can ride it once (reluctantly) but then I'm done. I'm surprised that they have such a major ride closed in May though. I would think that would be a popular time to go and they would try not to close the big stuff then. :confused3

I was hanging in there pretty good but by dinner, it was catching up to all of us... even after that 3 hour nap. :sad2:

You should try CHH. It is our favorite CS in MK. If you like basic seafood (fried), then you'll probably like it. But I've also heard that they have a wonderful tuna sandwich (but I don't eat tuna). I always get the shrimp and I love them. And yes, I hope you never have to sit near anyone like those numbskulls that we put up with!

That was my first time seeing a PP person in that spot too.

Wow, you did get a lot done for arriving so late Rinky! Love that! You were there in October, right? How was the weather? That is really when I would love to go next. :goodvibes

How disgusting are some people in public? Doing that inside CHH? Nasty.

Your dd does not have big ears. Some kids are so mean and I have dealt with it myself. God gave her the ears she has so they are perfect.

We were there Oct. 30-Nov 6th and the weather was perfect! It was around 73 each day except one day that was 80. Most days were overcast too and there was NO humidity. It was wonderful. We needed light jackets at night but were comfortable in shorts/capris during the day.

I thought those people at CHH were very disgusting too. I have never ever been around anyone who has done that in a public restaurant before. Very common!

Thank you for the comments about DD. I agree with you that God made us like we are so how can anyone argue with His design?

Holy cats! You really got all that done in less than 3 hours? I can only hope that works like that when we go in the fall! That's awesome!
And you didn't even have to FP BTMRR! (Yes, FP is now a verb!). Maybe they think it will take 20 minutes to walk through the queue?

What will you do next??? Hit about 5 more rides in an hour?

I just had a conversation today with people at work about how so many people now are mean and rude. There is definitely a growing trend, and my theory is that is all your upbringing or lack thereof and no self-respect. It appears that people belittle others to make themselves feel better about themselves. Of course, I work in the courts, and we see a lot of the bad behaviors - that's what gets them in our doors....

That's funny about the BTMRR queue! It is pretty long isn't it?

We did get a bunch of stuff done and I'm telling you, we took our sweet time. We strolled along and didn't get in a hurry at all. I am totally convinced that party days are the best days to go to MK.

It does seem that people are much more rude/mean than they used to be. I know if I had ever picked on someone or been rude in public, I would have gotten the backside of my mama's hand across my rear. It just seems that more and more people only think of themselves and not how they affect others... the "me me me" generation.

I bet you see some crazy stuff in the courts. I can't even imagine. I think your job would really get me down b/c I get pretty bent out of shape over that kind of stuff. I can't seem to let it roll off my back. I guess you sort of get numb to it after a while though. I guess you would have to or it would drive you crazy.

I've come to learn that party days are a GREAT day to get stuff done at MK! Yall did good, for sure!

Ugh... I can't believe how some people act in public. I've noticed more and more that so many people are unaware of the fact that there are OTHER people around who may be affected by what they're doing. It's ridiculous! :sad2:

I agree. Party days are awesome!

Yep. Those people acted like we were not even in the room. It really ticked my DH off and he was on the verge of going off on them so I told him that we just needed to get on out of there.

Rinky I am a bit of a ride chicken too. I hate Splash, I can't even enjoy the ride through the mountain because of the impending sense of doom!

Thunder Mountain is my absolutely favourite though.

P.S. I am so sorry to hear that your DD has been getting teased. Karma will get the mean girls back in the future, it always does. It's so sad though than when we're little we want to be the same as everyone else and it's only once we're older we realise that it's our differences that make us special.

That is exactly how I feel on Splash. I am so worried about the drop that have a hard time focusing on the rest of the ride.

I totally agree that it is awesome to be different. I just wish there was an easy way to make kids understand that. They always seem to want to fit in even if that means not being themselves. I'm already seeing that some in my DD. :sad2:

Not notified again:mad:but I checked and saw your update and I'm still enjoying every minute of it!! Love the Haunted Mansion, my second favorite
disney attraction. Keep em comin, rink!!!popcorn::

ps: I hate splash, cannot stand that steep drop
thunder mt ok but it does throw ya around quite a bit!

I feel your pain on not getting the emails. I don't know what is wrong with the DIS. :confused3

I'm so glad that I am not the only one who can't handle the Splash drop. I really wish they had two endings, one with the drop and one without. It is just too steep and too high. I feel like I leave my guts at the top of the hill.

I loved all the fun pictures at MK. They make me wish I was going to Disney next week instead of Sept..

Your DD is a cutie and I love her freckles, of course one of the reasons is I have freckles. I even ask a teaser one time if she was jealous because she was not lucky enough to have them.

I know. I wish I was there NOW! I know three families who are there now and I am so jealous. :snooty:

I don't see what the issue is with freckles myself. And good for you for dishing it back at your bully! :thumbsup2

I must be an even bigger chicken than you are since I have done Splash Mt and BTMRR each only one time and I bet I could give you a good run for your money with the screaming

Looks like your day so far was just Great! Love the scarey pics of you guys :thumbsup2

 We should ride together then and see who screams loudest!

I really want to try LTT. The food looks good and I've read lots of good things about it. Maybe on the next trip. You'll have to let me know how both of those were. I've never heard much about Tony's. :confused3

Ugh! I just don't tolerate mean kids very well at all!!!

I was the same way when I taught school. I would not tolerate an ounce of meaness! And I just have to tell you that your 'nip it in the bud' sounds so southern! ;) It reminds me of Barney Fife from the Andy Griffith Show. Not even sure you ever got that out in Kansas.

We had some serious ride mojo going that day. In fact, we had some super good luck with timing rides throughout most of this trip. I only remember one day that wasn't so great. That's pretty darn good I think!

That group at CHH almost made me lose my religion. I've never been around people so gross and rude. The fact that they did that while we were all eating just blew my mind. Who does that at the table??? :sad2:

We are planning to attend the MNSSHP in the fall, and we were not planning to use a park ticket that day. But now I might just have to go during the day too!

Yeah, people are definitely more selfish these days. I've been working in the courts since 1993 and I've seen people get more selfish, abusive, rude, etc. over the years. It's definitely worse. But I do have a hard time in some situations. I've become a bit jaded and immune, and certainly less trusting of people. I try not to let it affect me too much and I come home and realize that that is not the norm - there are still LOTS of good, hard-working honest and kind people in the world (like here on the DIS!).

Man - I bet you slept good that night! Up early after little sleep, driving, nap, rides and more rides! Whew! Okay. Where'd you go for dinner????

Sounds like a good plan to me! Do they still have the policy with the parties that you can enter the park at 4:00 with only a party ticket? I know it used to be that way. If so, you could still go early and not have to add a day to your regular ticket. But if you can do a whole day there, the party days have always been wonderful MK days for us. We have been on party days on all three trips and every time they have had low crowds. I think most people avoid those days because the park closes at 7:00, but that doesn't bother me b/c we just make an ADR that night for 7:30 and it works perfectly. I never feel like we have lost park time b/c we would have to stop for dinner anyway. And I have learned that I can see the fireworks from other places and enjoy them just as much if not more than seeing them from the park.

There certainly are plenty of good folks left out there and I always try to make a point to call them out when I can. I almost always take the time to let a manager know when we have exceptional service or when someone just goes above expectation. I feel like if I am going to complain about the bad apples, I need to praise the good ones too! I just wish I didn't see this downward trend that we've been talking about in society as a whole. I don't know if you have seen the new ads on TV that are promoting kindness, compassion, respect for others, etc. but I think it is so sad that we have come to a point that we need television commercials to teach us how to behave. Just makes me wonder what is wrong with this world?

Man - I bet you slept good that night! Up early after little sleep, driving, nap, rides and more rides! Whew! Okay. Where'd you go for dinner????

You don't even know! It felt more like a coma than sleep! But I had to keep going. I wouldn't call myself a Disney commando, just a highly motivated tourist.

Now you know I'm not spillin' the beans on dinner until we get there. Nice try though... :rolleyes1

long winded rambling in blue

Wow! You guys were able to get quite a bit done in such a short time. I am lovin' the Photopass picture of ya'll outside of Haunted Mansion. I wonder why they don't have a Photopass person there all the time? I am sure lots of people would buy the picture.

Don't you just hate it when you are in some place and a group of unruly people show up? People can be so rude and inconsiderate.

Speaking of inconsiderate, I read some of the posts about bullying and kids picking on other kids. We have had a few issues with that lately as well and I quickly sent out emails and made telephone calls to the teachers and principal. Most of the incidents were during football workout/P.E. and when I spoke to the Coach, he was some kind of p.o.'d. He told me he would handle it and to not worry about it any more. I am not sure what kind of punishment he doled out to the kids but I do know that some were puking after the extreme workout they had to endure. ;)

I think your daugther's freckles are simply adorable and there's not a thing in the world wrong with her ears. Tell her that all of the people who read your trip report think she is the cutest of cute.

I'm not sure what's up with the PP thing at HM. We have been on that ride many, many times and that was the first time they were there. I'm thinking maybe they were out b/c there was a party that night or b/c Halloween was the next day, but IDK. :confused3

Don't you just hate it when you are in some place and a group of unruly people show up? People can be so rude and inconsiderate.

We always seem to run into at least one rude or mind boggling group while we are at Disney. I guess when you pass by that many people, those sorts of things are going to happen. I debate even including that stuff in the TR b/c we have all been there and it's nothing new to run into morons, but when I write a TR, I tell the whole story, stupid stuff and all! But after all the crazy stuff I have seen in my life, I must say that I am still always amazed at what some people think is acceptable behavior. :sad2: If there is a bright spot though, it is that I can honestly say, that particular brand of rudeness was a first for me and hopefully my last!

Puking... nice! :rotfl: That's sweet revenge right there! Unfortunately, the kids that are bothering my DD are family. Yes, you read that right. They are part of my in-laws. The only good thing about it is that we don't see them on a regular basis (although it is too often for me). But it is hard to deal with them b/c our relationship with the in-laws is already pretty bad. I hate drama so I try not to feed into it, but I will say that it won't take much more before I just go ahead and have a very blunt and honest talk with a few folks and I know it isn't going to be pretty when that happens.

I hate to hear your son has been dealing with that too. It is so hard to be a kid these days!

Thanks! I don't see anything wrong with her but then again I don't think everyone has to look like they just walked off the cover of a magazine either. And those people are airbrushed anyway!

Yeah, I was pretty pleased when Hunter said that some of the guys were puking after workout. (Is that bad of me to be so pleased?) I truly believe that people just don't care if they are rude, bullies, pushy, etc. any more. My Mama and Daddy raised me to respect others and used that old adage "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Unfortunately, I don't think that's taught enough anymore.

I have a odd relationship with the in-laws as well and I can attest that it's hard to speak your mind but I have done it in the past. I figure if we don't get along really well anyway why not tell them like it is.

:lmao: I like your reasoning on the in-laws! I pretty much feel the same way except my in-laws are... nutty. :rolleyes1 You cannot have a mature, reasonable conversation with them about anything. With them, everything is an opportunity for a drama fest and if there really is none, they will make some up. So basically, if I were to say anything about my sister-in-law's kids, it would probably end up with us rolling around on the ground like two redneck women. Not that I am above that if it comes right down to it... :rotfl2: just kidding, but I will defend my child no matter what if I have to. I'm just hoping that DD can stand up for herself and it won't come to that. I try my best to set a Christian example for my child and I would hate for her to see her mama smack the fool out of her aunt. :rotfl:

And no it's not bad to want justice for your kid. I feel the same way. And you are so right that there are a growing number of parents that don't teach their kids the basics of how to act and how to treat other people. My SIL is a prime example of that. But like I said earlier, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree... my MIL is a nut, she birthed my SIL who is a nut, and she has birthed 5 children who are now driving me NUTS! It's a vicious cycle!

And I have just discovered the bright spot in all of this  (I'm always looking for a bright spot)... my husband came from that same gene pool, but somehow he is NOT a nut! Miracles do happen! :worship:

Ummmmm, rolling around on the ground like two Rednecks......a similar scenario may have happened on my hubby's side of the family years ago but it may have been two men instead of women. :rolleyes1 I've got quite a few nutso in-laws too and we pretty much keep our distance from them if at all possible. I'm not saying they are all nuts but when they all come together, it gets a bit crazy.

I look at my situation the same way..I can't believe my husband came from that bunch of folks.

Just wanted to say that I am really enjoying your report! I love reading about people's trips, and you are one of my all-time favorite trip report writers - every time you go on a trip I get excited because I know there will be another trip report coming soon!:goodvibes

I love all of the little details you include that make a Disney vacation what it is - thanks for sharing with us!

I am really enjoying your trip report! I love Castaway Cay too, it's the best, I wish they offered vacations just to there. I'd love to stay a week! Can't wait to read more about your trip.

Also, I loved your poem about the parade!

Okay, I was browsing the TR thread here on the DISboards and found your link this morning. I spent several hours reading through the whole thing, completely loving it!

You made me miss being on a Disney cruise ship and caused me to go through my Castaway Cay photographs, remembering how beautiful that island is!

And I am really enjoying your WDW trip recap, as well. No wait for BTMRR...that sounds like a perfect day at Magic Kingdom.
Can't wait to see what else you were able to accomplish in Fantasyland!:thumbsup2

Wow! Your pictures are great! There so many good ones I can't even remember what I want to comment on.

Oh yeah - I think your HM pics turned out pretty good and I love your pictures on BTMMR! Are you sure you can't ride Splash? If you can get thrown around on BTMMR I know you can handle splash. It's over fast and you would love the scenery!

Those kids in the restaurant with the adult chaperone were totally rude. I can't believe that adult would play into that stuff. Thank goodness you weren't still eating.

Thanks for the rundown on the weather! It sounds absolutely perfect. When we were there in December it hit 80 on a number of days we were there. 73 would have been better, but I'm not complaining after last year!

So sorry the other kids have been picking on your DD. We went through that with one of the boys. Kids can just be so mean. Just be her soft place to land, and keep reassuring her as I know you are. Or tell her to picture them all in school wearing nothing but their underwear. Don't you wish you could have a moment alone with them? pirate: I loved kindergarten and first grade with all 3 kids. But around 2nd grade is when I though some of them turned mean.

Those in-laws do seem to have power in numbers don't they? In stead of 'the more the merrier' it's more like 'the more the crazier'!

Thank you so much for saying that. I'm glad you enjoy reading along. And I am glad you don't think I have too many details in my TR. Sometimes I can get long winded! :rolleyes1

Thanks! I think a lot of people would love a direct trip to CC! I know I would sign up for that one in a heartbeat!

Welcome! I am so glad you are enjoying the TR and joining in the fun!

CC is amazing! It was so much better than I ever imagined it would be.

It was a pretty great day at MK. Even with the time missed it was still wonderful!

HM is such a challenge! I just don't have a good enough camera to handle a ride that dark, but I try every time knowing they won't come out well.

I have actually been on Splash twice and the last time I just told them that I couldn't do it again. I really do enjoy the ride except for the drop. It is just too steep and makes me feel horrible. And I dread it so bad during the whole ride that I can't really enjoy the story. I know, I have issues! I felt the same way on the take off of RnRC. Maybe it's the g forces or something, IDK? I just hate the way it feels! :scared1:

Yep, rude indeed. I can't imagine someone doing something so gross in public, but even moreso in a restaurant!

I think the humidity makes all the difference. Like I said, even the 80 degree day was comfortable b/c there was no humidity, a nice breeze and overcast skies. It makes all the difference. And this is coming from someone who thinks 60-65 is an ideal temperature. But I have seen days when the temp was only 70 but the humidity made it unbearable. On our first trip, there was a tropical storm going through on one of our days and it was very cloudy and only about 72 for the high, but the humidity was so high that I was pouring sweat and absolutley miserable! But overall we have had very nice, cool weather on our trips in late Oct/early Nov.

Yep, DD is in 2nd grade and you can really tell a difference in kids around that time. I used to teach K and 3rd grade and there was a huge difference between those two groups of kids. They are so sweet in K and just don't seem to notice the differences so much, but when they get a little older... :sad2: I'm sorry to hear you have had to deal with that stuff too. It seems like all of us have dealt with it at some point. Such a shame.

The sad part is that the mean attitude usually comes straight from the parents. The one kid that was the worst in grade school was also in cub scouts, so we got a lot of exposure to his parents. I would have been more shocked if the kid turned out NICE.

Tell her to hang in there. :grouphug: Or all her DIS buds are going to show up one day and give those kids what for!
