The Trip Where Nothing Went Wrong...Well, Almost! A September TR--Final update, 11/20

Looked like a fun but bittersweet morning in Epcot!

About half way through a WDW trip I start thinking 'oh no, only 4 nights left... 3 nights left.. ' etc! hehe - I think it's because I spend up to a year planning each vacation, and then they go so quickly (I'm currently on My Disney Experience website planning January trip!)

Emma princess: x

I dream of an empty WWoHP! Not that our waits were bad, it was mostly the rest of that land! I love how much you were able to get done!

We loved Transformers! Those costumes are absolutely stunning!! Crazy what they can do! It looks so fantastic!

Your description of the Mummy in 2011 cracks me up! :lmao: It must've been a real shock going on it expecting BTMRR!!

HARRY POTTER EXPANSION!!! CAN'T WAIT!!!

OH MY GOSH...I didn't know that secret about MiB...and I think I got that extra bonus 100,000 but now it seems less awesome because I actually beat everyone in my group, but only by like 20k, so I wonder how they got that much if I only got it after the bonus?! Whatever, I'll take my only attraction win! :thumbsup2 Guess I'll have to keep that secret now too either way.

Wow...I really can't even imagine spending so much money on a ticket and then getting there so late you could only possibly stay 4 hours. Crazy. But to each their own, I guess? :thumbsup2 Seems like you & Zach got SO MUCH done in that time!

That's crazy that all the outdoor rides were closed! I'm glad that didn't put a damper on anything though and you still trekked on!

I'm also curious to know what your flat fee was with your cab, if you don't mind? I was highly disappointed with Mears, that everyone around the Dis seems to recommend. We did end up taking a cab a few places, but never had the option for a flat fee. Was that just the specific cab driver's choice?

I totally get how grumpy you were about your DHS EMH insanity. Crowds are frustrating. I really don't think you are a crazy park tourer, but still. The slowpokes are soooooo frustrating. And, of course...it only happens when you are wanting to get somewhere fast.

I am so bamboozeled by Star Tours. I'll give a thorough explanation in my car, but we went on twice and literally only got ONE scene different. I can't even see where there would be three different scenes in one ride, only two spots I can visualize. I'll have to explain it better when I get there BUT I'm glad you and Zach always get good scenes.

I'm glad you liked the changes to TT!!

HOLY COW...THE WORLD SHOWCASE LOOKS SO DEAD IN YOUR PICTURE AT THE FOUNTAIN IN FRANCE!! CRAZY AFTER HOW INSANE IT WAS EVERY TIME I WAS THERE LAST WEEK!! That F&W Fest is great but makes it a bit crazy!

Man, you really zipped through the TR! I can hardly believe it!

Boo to the car not working on TT.

My sister in laws husband is from London. ( well, they both live there)
Anyway, he sent me tea bags with the king, queen, princes, etc on them. They've got arms on top to hug the cup ( well, like their upper torso with arms outstretched) so the teabag is the only thing in the cup. So cute!! I'll have to post a pic of it soon. It was from the queens royal jubilee :) I can't bring myself to use them!!
Yeah, by that point it was a joke. I didn't even expect it to work! Oh wow, those tea bags sound amazing! I definitely couldn't use them either!

I never made it on Test Track when we stopped there during our cruise. The FPs were long gone by the time we got there and we didn't want to stand in line for an hour. Another reason to go back (like I need another one!)
Ahh, too bad! Definitely a reason to return :)

I do the same thing! Even thought I KNOW we'll be back, when our trip is almost over I just get so sad!

We got sooo lucky with crowds this entire trip, but especially in US/IOA. Another thing that was awful about our friends coming so late was that when they did get there, the weather closed most of the rides! What a bummer!
Haha, poor Zach. I did mislead him a touch about the Mummy!
Honestly, we would have better off going with the non-flat fee cabs back from Universal! The way there it was just over $40 (metered) and on the way back, it was $60!! I get that we were making two stops, but still, that seemed REALLY high! Especially since when he called the cab, he said $50, and then when we got in the cab it was $60! I definitely felt swindled.
Haha, I can't wait to hear about your Star Tours experience!
I'm sure F&W definitely influenced the Epcot crowds! We were there about 3 weeks before it started-- SOOO dead!

Man, I can't believe it's already your last full day! It seems like you guys just got there! Is there another trip in the works yet?!

Wow I'm ridiculously behind on this report! Reading now. popcorn::

Oh gosh, poor Zach. I'm glad he's ok but I have to say, that is totally something that would happen to me-- that type of strange situation that doesn't happen to anyone else! I sympathize!

The wristlet was such a good idea. I'm totally going to borrow it the next time we go to Universal or even Six Flags. At Six Flags, the lockers aren't even free-it's $1 at each ride!

I love the Mummy! It is kinda intense but I feel like it's the type of ride that even non-coaster riders can enjoy. When we went in January with DBF's sister, her husband refused to ride ANYTHING intense and he loved it!

Wow-- definitely a good thing you guys decided to keep your original plans. After all you'd done that day, I'm sure it was nice to spend some time relaxing over drinks, especially in the rain but with them having just gotten there, I don't know how they weren't running around to do things!

Sorry to hear the morning started off rocky! I get the same way when things don't go how I expect them too but I'm glad you were able to enjoy the rest of the day.

After seeing the Boardwalk area, I REALLY want to stay there! We've been throwing ideas around for our next trip and the idea of renting DVC points for the Beach Club or staying at the Swan/Dolphin have come up!

I never realized you could sit inside at La Hacienda during the day! That's definitely good to know!

Oh no! The last full day already! :sad2:

I like the idea to split the day between Epcot and MK. I really want to like Epcot more and I want to spend more time there on our next trip. I think one day doing Epcot in the morning and MK at night would work for us because I tend to over-schedule us at the MK and this way I'd still get more MK time and we'd get to see more Epcot too!

I can't believe you're almost done with your report! I've been such a Dis-slacker!

I know, I feel like this TR really flew by!! I wish my trip was just starting :sad2:

Haha, strange things are always happening like that to Zach!
Augh, I know! We go to Six Flags in Jersey usually once a summer and I hate those lockers (and that they confiscate any food/drinks).
Yeah, I was SO happy we kept our plans. I'll really ride anything in the rain, it was our friends who wanted to stay dry. Plus, most things at IOA are outdoors anyway.
I LOVED the Swalphin when I stayed there for business--fantastic location, gorgeous rooms, and amazing restaurants. If I was going to rent DVC points, it would definitely be at the Boardwalk! (Or maybe GF. Orrr the future Poly lol.)
I think I also overschedule us at MK, too. Next trip I'll need to think about how not to do that...it's hard to strike the perfect balance!

Hi Kylie! I'm caught up... sorry about that.

Loved your Dark Side adventures. I've not been to US/IoA in Orlando but we've been to US here in CA. Love the rides - better than anything Disney if you like coasters. However, I'm still a tried and true Disney fan so we've not left the bubble yet.

Back to Disney, great updates. Sadness for your last full day before the gotta leave day. Thanks to Zach for his tutorial for the crowns. So is the king's crown at the bottom and the queen at the top of the photo booth??

Hi! I have also been to US in CA and loved it-- although the trek to the top of the mountain is a bit scary! :scared1:
I HATE last days-- I just get too much in a funk to really enjoy it, which is a shame.
You know, now I'm not sure which is the king's and which is the queen's crown. Oops! Looks like I needed that tutorial myself! ;)

So I left off with us hanging out in our room for a spell. Our dinner reservation was at 6:05, but it was at the MK, which mean we’d only need minimal transportation time. Still, I wanted to leave our room by 5:15 just in case of delays. We were at the MK at 5:30.

That was fine though-- plenty of time for pictures! The fall decorations were in full swing:

The PP photographer outside the park had a huge line, but a spare cast member was walking around, offering to take pics with peoples’ personal cameras. She snapped this one, which I actually liked more than a lot of the PP pics!

We got lucky inside the park and spotting a PP photographer just setting up. We were her first customers!

After using the bathroom, Zach snapped this pic of me, Minnie, and Roy. I absolutely love it:

We wasted our last few minutes before checking into Tony’s Town Square watching bits of an afternoon parade. I am terrible with the names of the afternoon parades at Disney, since we never watch them:

It was colorful and festive and high energy, with fun music! I can’t imagine going out of my way to see it again, but it was a distraction while we were waiting to check into dinner.

After a lengthy wait (25 minutes past our ADR), we sat down at Tony’s around 6:30. The restaurant is very pretty, but the food was meh. We’d return if we had to eat in the MK.

We ate, and then felt kind of lost. EMH was until midnight that night, but there were no rides pulling us in any particular way. Since we were close, we decided to head into Tomorrowland. The first attraction we came upon was Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor. I think this show is so funny, and I was curious to see how they added in MU references, so we headed in:

This was great. “That guy” was totally oblivious, which made it that much funnier. I loved it, as always!

Buzz had a solid 15 minute wait, but we decided we had to do it on our last night (we normally don’t wait for this ride ever). Next, we made our way over through New Fantasyland (so beautiful at night!) to it’s a small world, which was of course a walk-on.

One of Zach’s all time favorites is the Haunted Mansion, so we had to ride that “one last time.”

The wait was listed at 10 minutes, but we walked straight into the stretching room.

At this point, our restlessness really kicked in. It was 9:00 and crowds were on the curbs for the Main Street Electrical Parade. Neither of us felt like dealing with the walls of people. We decided to just head out, catching glimpses of the parade as we left.

Now, I’m sure many of you are thinking whaaaat?! They left so early on their last night?! No Wishes?! On the bus ride back, we talked and realized a few things. Magic Kingdom on our last night may be our tradition, but maybe it’s time to change that up. When I think of the MK, I think about the rides. I think about running from land to land, getting in as many rides as I can. However, we really don’t do many rides at night. We get so much done in the morning that by the evening, I’m more content to have a nice big meal, and just kind of walk around and hang out. And my absolute favorite place in the world to walk around? Epcot’s World Showcase. And a place with some fabulous restaurants that I’d totally love on a final night? Epcot’s World Showcase. So it’s time for things to change! Zach and I agreed that for our last day next trip, the morning will be spent at the MK, enjoying the wonderful opening show and cramming in lots of rides. The evening will be spent at Epcot, relaxing over good food and drink. I think this will fit with our trip style much better. We’ll spend nights at MK in the middle of the trip, but I think this will be the best bet for our last day.

That settled, we sat back and enjoyed one last boat ride back to our gorgeous resort:

Good-bye Main Street Train Station!

We had two snack credits left, so after a quick trip up to the room for our mugs, we went to Roaring Forks and got soda and soft serve ice cream. Harry Potter weekend was actually going on on ABC Family, so we watched one of the movies and ate our treats. Overall, it was a lovely night, but of course marred by the sadness of leaving Disney! I HATE leaving the MK for the last time! I always turn around a bunch of times, trying to get one final look at the castle. I fell asleep around 11, sad and also hoping I’d have enough time in the morning to get packed up. Our ME bus was coming at noon for our 2:35 flight and we hadn’t packed at all. EEK!

Next up-- our final morning, airport rushing, and final thoughts!

Oh no the last night! I like the new plan of MK in the morning and Epcot at night. Epcot has so many great restaurants and I feel MK lacks that. Actually now that I think of it I don't think we've ever done a TS at MK besides Crystal Palace and that was for breakfast. Nothing there really appeals to me. Not even BoG but I will go there just to say I've been there!

I think that's a great idea! Makes a lot of sense too :)
Change can be good, with the right type of change :)

Sounds like a lovely night!! We would have felt the same way; thinking of starting, but ending up leaving early. lol

The last day/night is always bittersweet. I never want to ruin it but getting sad but it's hard not to feel a little sad. :(

Amanda

I was reading your latest update and when you got to your Tony's dinner I completely forgot that I wanted to try and squeeze that in later in our trip! I like only a few dishes at that restaurant but I love dessert.

I completely get your unrest that last night at MK - there's so many rides that there's really no slow down and enjoy the atmosphere zone. I agree that WS is perfect for that. Sounds like a great idea for future trips.

Awwww, one last view of the castle. Can't get enough of that view. :)

I like the idea for a change in your last day tradition. You're totally right too. It's hard to relax and just enjoy the MK because you're just running to do things.

I agree, the food at Tony's does tend to be a little bit meh. But it will do in a pinch if you need a MK reservation that's not super expensive.

Awww, your last night. I love the idea of just wandering around on your last night. I think it really just slows everything down. Too often in the past I've rushed, but I feel we get more out of just taking time.

I feel for you....I do the exact same thing when we are leaving the MK on our last day, I keep turning back, wipe away the tears, turn back, wipe away the tears...turn...oh sorry, I know you get it!!

MK definitely lacks good restaurants! I think Epcot is more our speed for most nights. I'll definitely do one or two MK nights our next trip, at least, but dinner will be at the WL or FW or another resort CLOSE to MK!

I know a lot of people could spent every night in the MK, but our touring style fits Epcot at night better.
I don't know why we seemingly never stay out late in Disney?! Zach is such a night owl!

The last day/night is always bittersweet. I never want to ruin it but getting sad but it's hard not to feel a little sad. :(

I always have that same dilemma-- you're sad but don't want to be! And you know that being sad just ruins enjoying your final moments!

I wish I had more luck with my dessert at Tony's! Oh well. I'll give it another try!
WS is the perfect place to take it slow, and I think that suits us (at least for our last night!)

I like the idea for a change in your last day tradition. You're totally right too. It's hard to relax and just enjoy the MK because you're just running to do things.
It can be hard for us to break tradition, but I think this will suit us the best! And if we want to go back to the old way, we'll just need to book another trip! :thumbsup2

Yeah, I think Tony's is alright. And now that we're running out of new restaurants that we really want to try, I think it'll do in the future.
My favorite Disney memories definitely are around just taking everything in and enjoying the atmosphere!

I feel for you....I do the exact same thing when we are leaving the MK on our last day, I keep turning back, wipe away the tears, turn back, wipe away the tears...turn...oh sorry, I know you get it!!

Ahhh it's the worst feeling EVER! I feel like I can never get enough "last looks."

Joining late but happy I saw yours... Didn't realize you started this!
Thanks for coming over :) There's a lot to catch up on haha.

So here it is. The final trip update. I really have had so much fun writing this TR and was dragging out writing this. Guess I can’t put it off any more, however! There will be one more update after this, however!

Normally, I try to sleep in a little bit on our last day of Disney, but I had two important things to get done: 1) Pack. 2) BOOK A BOUNCEBACK!!

Yes, the one bright spot in our morning was knowing we’ll be returning to Disney in September 2014!! We actually never got a BB offer in our room, but I knew one was available, so I called the general reservation line and got transferred to the right source. It took FOREVER (I was on hold for about 20 minutes), but when all was said and done, Zach and I were booked from September 11-18th at the Wilderness Lodge!

This was absolutely not planned before we left, but that Disney magic reeled us in! We had discussed going to California and doing a DL trip, but after talking about it, we really just wanted to go to Florida again! Between the price of DL hotels and flights from New York, we can have a longer, nicer vacation at WDW. Plus Zach (and I) really love the immersive, resort feel we get at WDW. With new rides at both the MK and Universal (we cannot WAIT for the HP expansion!), we don’t at all feel like this trip will be stale/things will feel like “we just did this.” I definitely want to switch things up a bit, also. There are things we didn’t get to do that I’d like to do (Wishes Dessert Party and possibly the Fantasmic Dinner Package) and things to skip. While I’d really love to return during F&W, October is just my busiest month at work. It would be impossible to take a full week off during this time. Zach also really likes having a vacation at the end of the summer to look forward to (as opposed to a fall vacation). We decided to push the trip a week later than our 2013 vacation in hopes we’ll experience even lower crowds! And there was no question about where we were going to stay. We fell in LOVE with the Wilderness Lodge and think it’s the perfect hotel for us at Disney.

I booked our bounceback and packed at the same time (efficiency!). Knowing we’d be back in a year took a little bit of the sting away, but it was still a mopey morning! Our flight was at 2:35, and our ME pick-up was at noon. I should mention our flight was originally at 2:55 and was pushed up by the airline (Delta). I probably should have called ME when I got our packet (it still said 2:55) and requested an earlier bus--you’ll see why!

At around 9:30 a.m., we were all packed up. It’s a tradition for us to take a said “we’re leaving vacation” photo, so that’s what this is:

Before leaving our room, I snapped one last picture of the view from our balcony:

I loved sitting out there, relaxing during our afternoon break! Room 4102, you certainly were good to us!

I took a couple more photos of the hallways and view into the lobby:

After sniffling a bit about leaving our gorgeous room for the last time, we headed down to baggage drop off desk. We absolutely did not think that this was going to work out. Our past two trips, an alert was put on Zach’s name and we were told we had to check our luggage at the airport. Thanks, TSA! Shockingly, everything went smoothly and we were allowed to check both of our bags! They ended up in New York and there were no issues with payment (see my PTR for the nightmare I dealt with in 2009 over paying for our bags, Disney refusing to check them for us, and then Delta insisting I did not pay for the bags! What a mess!).

That done, we heading to Roaring Fork to use up our remaining CS credit. Besides filling our mugs and grabbing ice cream on our last night, this was the only meal we had here. I went with the pancakes with sausage, and Zach had the Mickey waffles plain with bacon. Everything was hearty and filled us up. I’m not sure I’d eat any other meal here, though. Compared to POR (and I’m sure the values, too), the menu is pretty limited!

We had about an hour to kill after breakfast, so we decided to head out and relax by the pool. It wasn’t too hot and I just love the atmosphere down there. There was hardly anyone there, so getting a table in the shade was easy.

I had to stop for a photo on the bridge. It’s too scenic and pretty!

Trout Pass, I really enjoyed visiting you!

I really can’t handle how beautiful this hotel is! I’m actually really glad we had a decent amount of time just to soak everything in and relax here.

We wanted to be outside waiting for ME 15 minutes in advance like they instruct, so at 11:30, we went inside so we’d have a few minutes to go to the bathroom and make sure we had everything we needed.

I sat by the fireplace and waited for Zach to come back from the bathroom:

So cozy.

11:45 came too soon, and we were on the unfortunate side of these beautiful doors:

And we got to enjoy those doors for awhile, because ME was a solid twenty minutes late! I started to get a bit panicked, as I knew we were already leaving slightly earlier that the normal three-hour ME window. I know a lot of people think that three hours is way too long, but I am a freak about giving myself enough time to get to places. I’d rather be an hour early than two minutes late! And when my destination is the airport?! Eeek!

Waiting…no bus in sight…

The bus eventually came at 12:20 and proceeded to make a stop at the Polynesian. Dude, we have a plane to catch!

I absolutely hate the “you’re leaving Disney” video (makes me way too sad!), so I tried to distract myself from both the TV and my growing panic by playing on my phone. Once we arrived at MCO, obviously our terminal was the second stop! (Oddly enough, we were the only people getting off at this stop.)

We pulled up at 1:20, with an hour to spare. I’m sure most of you are thinking, wow, why was she freaking out? They had plenty of time! Well, yes and no. I had wanted to grab lunch and look in some of the cool MCO shops before going through security, which obviously was not going to happen. And from my business trip in June, I was quite familiar with those long security lines at MCO!

We went straight to security and emerged 15 minutes before boarding for our plane was to begin. That’s just a bit too close for comfort for me! There was a Starbucks close to our gate, so we did get treats to tide us over until we got back to New York and were able to get dinner.

Our flight took off and landed on time and was mostly uneventful. The only thing of note is the temperature of the plane. It was FREEZING! It could not have been warmer than 50 degrees. The flight attendants were troopers and gave everyone blankets from first class, but it was still a chilly flight!

A family friend was kind enough to pick us up from the airport, and we were home in no time. Siiiiiiiiigh.

Thank you all again SO much for reading my report! I was going to include my trip wrap up in this post, but it turns out there was enough for a full update, so stay tuned to hear about our highs, lows, favorites, next times, and more.

The wilderness lodge is gorgeous!! Yay for bounce back !!!

Ugh I feel the same way!! I'm always really and hate being late!!! I would have been going crazy and very anxious being so late to the airport!!!! LoL

Such a great TR!!!! :)
