The TR that shouldn't have happened - June 2012 - TR and Decision Complete!

Great update, Deena!

I love rain at Disney sometimes, but in the summer it only seems to make the shops more crowded...I could easily envision the body to body Emporium...that's when I walk in one door and out the next.:thumbsup2

From what you've seen of the area so far, would you want to raise a family there or would this be an interim place to live for a while? I ask only because we've looked at both coasts, definitely prefer the Gulf - people are friendly on both sides, but there is a different energy on the Gulf. DD looked at Winter Park, but found people unfriendly and rather snobby, so that was crossed off the possibilities right away.

Ready for what happens next, please! ;)

Deena I am finally caught up again. Your eye ulcer sounded terrible, I admire you for trying on target had that been me I think I would have been done in for the day. Sorry your were not having better luck with finding a suitable apartment but the new complex to be built in Orlando sound promising I had a flashback of the shops in MK when it rains they do get packed to the gills. Can't wait to read more

•Dang! I can't believe that summer crowd! No thanks.
•Ew, that weather too. No thanks, again.
•I'm excited to see that you actually got to fit in some park time too! ;)
•Day 3, please!! :dance3:

Finally finished reading your entire TR:thumbsup2 Wow is all I can say about Mystic Dunes...glad you left. My husband is from Orlando (that's where I met him) I was there for only 5 years. There are some great places to live...but some shady ones, too....be careful choosing! It's a fun place to live. And what's best....DISNEY IS SUPER CLOSE!!!!!

That Friday afternoon rain that hit WDW was horrible!!! We sat on the balcony of AKL for a bit, then had to move inside because of the lightening and thunder. And good grief, the crowd at MK!!!! I thought for sure the rain would keep people away.

Looking forward to more!
Heather

Ooops... started Day 3 before multi-quoting--I haven't forgot!!

Day 3

My first appointment was at 8:30, but I had a strong feeling I wasn't going to care for it, and I talked myself into an extra hour and a half of sleep. Plus, not wearing makeup, and the constant rain made getting ready a snap. When I finally got up, I had some cereal, made a semi-new plan.

I figured I should start my adventure at Cagan's Crossing. They have 4 different apartments there, and I was interested in checking out 3 of them. I have heard it's great there, and many cast members live there. Not that I'm going to be a cast member, but for some reason--I value their opinion since they love Disney too!

I drove thru Kissimmee and got on the highway. I passed a place that was highly recommended by a friend called Cane Island. It was out of our price range, but wow, it was in a hopping location, and beautiful. I started a little debate with myself if I would like to be in all the action with tourists, or away from it all. Disney area, downtown Orlando, or a cute little suburb? What did I want for us??

I get to Cagan in about 20 minutes from All Star Movies. I really liked the area. There were a few fast food restaurants and a Walmart across the street. When you pull in, there's an entire town center. Furniture, tanning, nails, hair, pizza, wings, burgers, tea, accountant, chinese, ice cream, a giant library... and tons more. I loved the vibe!! I make my way to the leasing office and meet with the manager. She recommended 2 of the 3 I wanted to look at, but I wanted to look at all 3 anyway.

The first one she took me to was the Lofts. They were located above the businesses in the towncenter, and came with a garage, and elevator-not stairs. Medium sized garden tubs, updated stainless kitchen, big floor plan. Love. :lovestruc

As we were on the golfcard going to the Glen, I asked how far the Florida Mall was from there. She said 30 miles :sad1: That's far in traffic to work. I was sad. I loved the Lofts.

We drove around the Glen as it's a new area there. Separate mail area, separate pool, lake, lots of friendly people walking doggies--really nice! We get in there--very spacious! A very large garden tub, lots of space, energy efficient everything, and a white and oak kitchen (not as in love with white as stainless/black). You also get a free flat screen tv with it. I liked this one too. I liked both--I loved the lofts, but this had good qualities too.

We went to Ridgepointe, and it would be nice as a starter apartment, but not at this stage in my life. It would be perfect for a younger crowd, but just not for us. I think she tried to tell me that, but I didn't listen.

So I left there really happy--but concerned with my drive to work. I knew DH would love both of the places there. He loves to be "in" the action and I knew that having all the little places below us would be amazing.

Next, I went to Alta Corners in Kissimmee/Davenport which was super hard to find since GPS didn't pick up the street. I was agitated by the time I got there. It was okay, but just okay. Especially after seeing Cagan. I was over it, but remained polite.

Next, I did a drive by of the place I was supposed to go to at 8:30, Legacy Parc. The leasing office was locked--so I just left. I could tell I wouldn't like it.

Next, I went to Waterstone Courtyard in Davenport, which didn't pick up on GPS either. I called the leasing agent and he gave me directions. From the looks online--these were going to be my love. However I felt like I was driving farrrrrrrrrrr farrrrrrrrr away. This place was meant to be a townhome, but they aren't selling well as condos, so they're renting. The special made it pretty cheap. They were beautiful. There is a jacuzzi tub IN the master bedroom. There is also a courtyard outside every home and a hookup for a hot tub which you can rent. Beautiful--but they only have room for a small stackable washer/dryer. The kitchen, master bed, and courtyard won my heart.... but I was out in the middle of nowhere, and I needed a little more city.

This answered my question from earlier. Did I want to be IN the action... YES!!

From here, I knew it would be a rediculous drive, but I needed to go look at the place I didn't make it back to the previous day, and I needed to go to the mall to look at my new place of employment.

Since the places I went to this day didn't coffee, water, or food me... I stopped at McDonald's for a hamburger (ketchup only), medium fries, and a medium coke with light ice. Enough to take the edge off.

So while I was driving back thru Kissimmee, I had a million flashbacks of traveling with my dad and stepmom, going thru all the shops--especially Orange World. It made me miss my dad, and I had a moment. I haven't been down that way since I was much younger.

I made it to the Reserve on Beachline, they remembered me. I thought I would be wow'd, but I wasn't. I wanted to be--but I just didn't feel it. They were pretty nice, just not for me.

I wish I had pictures. I didn't take my new camera with me most places. It was raining and I was terrified of ruining 2 cameras in a 2 month period. I have a photographic memory anyway.

From there, I went over to the Florida Mall. I only went into Dillard's, and went right into cosmetics. I stalked around for a bit, observing, and taking it all in. I can see myself working here--nice and busy. I didn't go thru the rest of the store, or thru the mall. It was packed since the weather sucked. I didn't want to spend money anyway, and me being in a big mall is like a gambling addict in a casino. I needed to vacate. I was pleased. I need to be in a busy place--the store I work in is pretty busy, and I need to make money.

Welp. I had no more places on my list. Was I happy with all the places I went to? Do I feel like I saw enough? I felt uneasy--and hungry, lol. I set the GPS to go back to WDW, and called DH.

I told him I visited all the places on our list, and told him about Cagan. I asked for advice where to eat. I said I wanted steak, but not signature. He said Captain's Grille or Big River Grille. I haven't had Big River Grille in 2 years, so I went with that. I love CG, but go there kind of often.

I didn't go back to the room. I went straight to BWI. I forgot that TIW gets valet, and parked in self parking. I went over to BRG and was seated right away. I ordered the meal I had in 2010 which was really good--Steak and Shrimp with garlic mashed potatoes. While waiting, I got out my iPad, and did a few searches. Even though I was supposed to have Sunday and Monday off... I was so unsettled, I felt like I may need to go back out.

Dinner is served:

6e6a69bd.jpg

Looks amazing! My steak was way over cooked, and the shrimp had a different flavor than I remembered--not bad, just different. The mashed potatoes were good. It was a good meal, but I kind of wished I got something else. Maybe it was the cut of meat. I would have rather had a sirloin or filet than a strip. I like their chocolate cake, but I decided to just walk to Epcot and hit Boulangerie.

I left there, walked into Epcot, and straight to France. I knew of one freezy treat that could help my state of mind. I got a grey goose slushie, and walked toward the bakery. I stopped in the Dior store and talked to the lady there as I normally do. We have the same trainer, and we talked about upcoming stuff, and just about Dior in general--it was nice :)

The line at the bakery wasn't bad. I got a piece of chocolate cake and a chocolate mousse to go in a box. I wanted the strawberry tart, but didn't feel like getting hives on top of all my other ailments. Sometimes I do know when to quit :rotfl2:

I was worn out. I really wanted to walk through the world showplace, but didn't have the energy. I would be back the next day for Via Napoli anyway. So I got another slushie, and started to walk toward the International Gateway.

... and I'm walking ...and POW! A wee little girl runs straight into me, and slushie flies down my dress into my bra. So I look up, and the mom and dad are running toward her apologizing to me. Then I see... I worked with the dad a couple years back, and they were a couple that I hung out with a lot--so I knew both of them. Small World! We talked for a few minutes, and I explained why I was walking around Epcot alone with an alcoholic beverage, lol. We said goodbye and I continued to walk and slurp. I really wanted to go back to the room. I was getting sticky from the spill.

I took the boat back to BWI, stopped in their gift shop. Bought another hat collection set, and a few mystery boxes. I also bought a card holder for the pool. I planned on swimming the next day, and normally have DH hold them in his pockets--but DH wasn't here.

I got back to my car, drove back to Movies, and got all my junk and goodies up to the room.

What to do next? Well, it's time for work.... so you'll have to come back!!

Oh Deena...the rain, the spilled slushie (surprised they didn't buy ya a fresh one...I would've) BUT I like the sound of your new job, and your potential new place :goodvibes

You really are moving on this trip!! Can't wait to see what you decide....:coffee: That's a bummer about the slushie!! But neat that it led you to bumping into someone you knew! Small World!:goodvibes

•Oh man! I can see how this is going to shape up! (Especially since I know the spoiler. :lmao: )
•Desserts and drinks from Epcot are sure to take the edge off of anyone! Sounds yummy.
•Wow, truly a small world when you bump into someone you know.

I'm getting excited, but I can't jump to the end because there isn't one! I love your writing style - full of suspense with a bit of intrigue and some medical, meal and vodka mishaps thrown in for good measure. You're always full of surprises

A complex with all those places of business right there sounds great but I would not like living over them. When I was a kid we lived in the city in a building over stores. I was to impressed with my steak at BRG either. How wild to have run into someone you knew in Epcot.

I am so excited about your move. Does this mean we'll get more TRs from you?

What is DH going to do when you move to FL?

OMG - your day 2 sounds like a nightmare between the eye, the 2 hour pharmacy wait, and the guy who took your ID. I am surprised you went back out there for Day 3 - what a trooper you are.

I really wish I could see some of these properties. Its interesting how many pros and cons there are to each place. Cant wait to see how this all ends up.

You spin a good tale! I would love to move to Orlando too! If only I had a job that would transfer down there. Maybe when I get old enough to retire.

Can't wait for more...

The steak and shrimp dinner looks delicious. You make me hungry whenever you talk about food. Too bad you didn't take any pictures of Epcot...was it crowded like the Magic Kingdom?

Btw....LOVE your "stormy, creepy" picture of the GF!

Thanks for sharing your BRG photo/review. At least it looked good!

The crowds, the rain, the endless miles with your GPS that didn't always work, and grey goose slushie down your bra! What an adventure! ;) I'm hanging in there for more!

Well... in their defense, I'm not sure they really knew "what" the slushie was, or the fact that it was $10--I've shared my share of drinks with that couple, so I know they would have, had they known. Ahhh I can't wait to have this done so I can tell you the outcome!! I've almost texted you 100000 times, but I want you to read about it, lol.

You really are moving on this trip!! Can't wait to see what you decide....:coffee: That's a bummer about the slushie!! But neat that it led you to bumping into someone you knew! Small World!:goodvibes

I know!! I want to finish it sooooooo bad because I have news!!! Big news!!

•Oh man! I can see how this is going to shape up! (Especially since I know the spoiler. :lmao: )

Yes! I wish the weather was better and I could have had more drinks/dessert at Epcot... but what I had was great :)

Lol, that's why I call it an adventure!! I'm glad you're here!!! More surprises coming up!

I thought it would be kind of cool... but I'm wondering if they're noisy during the day? I would gain 400 lbs if I had ice cream, pizza, and wings directly underneath me... and they deliver!

I am so excited about your move. Does this mean we'll get more TRs from you?

What is DH going to do when you move to FL?

Well... I'll probably keep this one going thru the move, then I'll make a new thread of all my little adventures :)

Lol... I thought I was cursed. I had 5 full days... I had no choice but to go, or give up. I actually considered calling home and telling him this was a bad idea. It takes a lot to get me down. :thumbsup2

You spin a good tale! I would love to move to Orlando too! If only I had a job that would transfer down there. Maybe when I get old enough to retire.

If you dream it, you can do it ;)

Btw....LOVE your "stormy, creepy" picture of the GF!

The World Showplace wasn't crowded at all. I had no wait at the slushie stand, or the bakery. I never made it to the front. My mind was just not on the camera this time... which was a shame because it was brand new, lol.

Thanks for sharing your BRG photo/review. At least it looked good!

Yay!! More coming up!!

Love the update.

I'm convinced that the rain makes everything more tiring. I'm always much more drained after completing tasks in the rain than I would be doing the same events in the sunshine.

Ready for what happens next, please! ;)

I could see different aspects in different areas. We are looking to rent for a year, then purchase a house or bigger condo. I guess the first year is all about being "in" the action and checking out different areas. :) Stay tuned!

Deena I am finally caught up again. Your eye ulcer sounded terrible, I admire you for trying on target had that been me I think I would have been done in for the day. The ulcer freaked me out pretty bad. I still am wearing glasses. I think I'm going to give it another week just to make sure. I'm still thankful for my eye doctor for calling in the Cipro without seeing me!

•Dang! I can't believe that summer crowd! No thanks.
•Ew, that weather too. No thanks, again.
•I'm excited to see that you actually got to fit in some park time too! ;)

Yeah... I forgot what summers were like there. Funny enough... it was cooler than in Cincinnati!

Bad rain....:sad2: Waiting for this to get better for you!!:coffee:

:) Wait and see!

Finally finished reading your entire TR:thumbsup2 Wow is all I can say about Mystic Dunes...glad you left. My husband is from Orlando (that's where I met him) I was there for only 5 years. I was wondering what you guys were up to :) It was rough. I don't think anything keeps summer crowds out of MK, lol.

Day 3 Continued....

After dropping my stuff off in the room, I decided to go to Downtown Disney. I walked over to the Music bus stop and the line was full. What a disaster the DD bus is here! We waited a bit, the first bus came, but it was near full already and I didn't make it. Thank goodness I didn't go to the Movies stop. 35 minutes later, the next bus came. It too, was almost full, but I smashed myself in there and was barely behind the line--I was tired of waiting. So our driver goes to pull out and BOOM--hits our mirror off of the next bus. So he had to pull over and go thru inspections of both busses. After noticing for about 5 minutes that this was going to take FOREVER... I jumped off and figured I would drive.

I was nervous about driving there, because I've never dealt with parking there before. Of course the keys to the car were in the room. So I went back up to the room, got the keys, got to the car, and when I pulled out--that bus was still there. I'm glad I left--it was too full anyway.

I got down there and parked on the West Side. I parked in the first spot I found because I didn't really understand the logistics of the parking there and it was raining too bad to figure it out.

There's only one store I go into on the West Side, and that's D-Street. I bought myself 2 Vinylmations from a set that I like, and him 1 from the Star Wars set, and for "our" collection, I got Phineas and Ferb. I got Perry a few weeks ago.

When I left there, I wasn't feeling great. I dunno if it was my nerves, or the food from BRG, but I wanted to get back to the room, and quick. DD was super super crowded. After all, it was a Saturday night. I couldn't fight the crowds quick enough to get back to my car. The car seemed to be forever away, but I made it. I got back to the room and called it a night.

I nibbled on my cake and mousse a bit, opened my vinylmations and pins. I got 2 vinylmations that I "wasn't" trying to get. So I figured I'd trade them away. DH got one that he didn't have, so that was good. I separated the pins I needed for my collections, from the ones I wanted to trade, put them on the lanyard, watched some TV, and decided to look at some of the apartment info I had.

Technically, I was done looking. I had looked at everything that was on my itinerary, and I found some okay places, but I felt uneasy and unsettled. I did a few more searches, decided to look at everything regardless of my high standards/budget just to see everything. I wrote down a few places to call on Monday since I was for sure taking Sunday off. I needed a day to myself.

I text DH with his new vinylmation, and he says great... only (insert number I forget here) to go. I didn't know he wanted the whole set :confused3 Welp, I guess I could go back tomorrow and get more.

After I was done snacking and organizing, I put the iPad and notebook down and pretty much passed out. Thank goodness I didn't have to get up with an alarm the next day. ----and good night :faint:

Ahhh I can't wait to have this done so I can tell you the outcome!! I've almost texted you 100000 times, but I want you to read about it, lol.
So I wait impatiently, as long as its good news I'll happily wait :flower3:

So our driver goes to pull out and BOOM--hits our mirror off of the next bus. So he had to pull over and go thru inspections of both busses. After noticing for about 5 minutes that this was going to take FOREVER... I jumped off and figured I would drive.

:worried: I would've exited at that point too....I hate DD when it's packed. Rather explore it leisurely...hope you had a good night's sleep. Can't wait to hear about Deena's Day & what you did on your "day off" :hyper:

Day 4

I wake up on my own at 7:30am. All I can hear is the sound of pouring, hard, rain. That was my queue to roll over and go back to sleep--I deserved it.

Fast forward to 12:30, I wake up. That was amazing. What wasn't amazing, is that it was my only day off, and it was STILL pouring and didn't look like it was going to stop.

What to do today? I had 2 reservations for Via Napoli today (I know--bad), one for 12:45, and one for 8:10. I didn't know if I would go for lunch or dinner. Well, obviously I wasn't going to make the 12:45. I had a bowl of cereal and tried to figure out what I wanted to do.

I wanted to go to AK to see Lilly the gorilla, but it was raining and she wouldn't be out. I know this first hand. So AK was out.

HS didn't sound like fun in the rain either.

MK didn't sound great on a weekend after I saw it the other day.

I do want pizza from Via Napoli, and a caramel pretzel from Karamel Kuche. I also want to trade my Vinylmations.

Ugh... the rain... do I just want to hang in the room all day?? If I had CL access, or been in a deluxe resort, it would have been a day of TV, CL offerings and room service.

I pick up my phone and call Saratoga Springs Spa. My mind was trying to stay cost-savvy. I wanted a facial and reflexology, but I really needed to pick one or the other. I can get reflexology at home with my Massage Envy credits, so I went with an 80 minute deluxe facial. I've had the 50 minute custom facial there before--but I decided to see what the extra 30 minutes was all about. My appointment was at 6:30, but I could show up whenever to use the amenities in the lounge that include a whirlpool, sauna, steamroom, and showers. I loved it down there last time, and I figured that time in a whirlpool and sauna beat being out in the rain.

I knew this meant I wouldn't make it to Via Napoli at 8:10, so I got online to cancel, and rebook for 3:00pm. I really, really wanted this, or I wouldn't be walking all the way there.

I got ready, got my spa bag packed, my poncho/umbrella, and headed out the door. I was on low fuel, so I had to get gas, and I knew there was a Hess station by BWI. Of course I had to re-route my car since the gas tank was on the other side than my Equinox. It was raining so hard. So hard and it was blowing under the gas canopy.

I decided to park at BWI. Against the rules or not, I can say that nothing would be overly crowded with this rain, and I was right here. I have an AP and wouldn't be paying to park anyway--so I'm trying to skirt paying.

At this point, I really can't explain how hard the rain was.

I get a decent spot at BWI, walk with my poncho and umbrella, but I was still soaked already. I get near the boat dock, and the (insert explict adjective of your choice) boat just left the dock. I knew it would be 20 minutes standing in the rain, or 15 minutes of walking to the International Gateway.

I walked. I was the only person on the walkway. I was regretting the decision to walk, and I was miserable. I was soaked to the bone thru a poncho and umbrella. There's no quick and easy way to Italy. I am pretty sure that I cried a bit, but you would never know, lol. I had my glasses on and I couldn't see, they were covered in rain. Boo, this really sucks.

Although it felt like forever, I finally got there. I was seated within 5 minutes at a table I've sat at 3 times now--weird. I miss using my maiden name at the Italy restaurants. My maiden name is wide-open-Italian, and they always used to talk to me about it. My married name--not so much. I miss that little extra interaction.

I knew exactly what I wanted. I was kind of sad DH wasn't there. I normally get Spaghetti and Meatballs, and he gets a pizza, and we split. I wanted pizza more, and I would follow it up with chocolate gelato.

ff4a4c06.jpg

It was delicious as always. I mean, it really is the best pizza. I equally love their chocolate gelato and their lemon sorbetto, but I like the lemon on a hot day--this was not that at all. The chocolate was rich, and hit the spot.

My young, Italian waiter brought my check with my TIW discount. I opened my wallet, and I got my room key out. I took a double take, and the slot where my debit card goes was empty :confused3 Oh, I better put it back before I lose it! So I dig thru my purse... hmmmmm. I dig, and rip apart, and finally dump the whole thing on the table. Where is my card??? Maybe I left it in the room? No--you got gas with it. Maybe in the car. Let's hope. I took a second and checked my account with my phone, and it was okay. I suited back up in my poncho, and went back out to face the torrential downpour.

As much as I wanted the caramel, I wanted out of the rain, and I was nervous about my card. I trek back to the IG--the rain was still full force. I made the boat back to BWI this time, thank goodness. I got back to my car, and ripped it apart... no card. Panic was set in. Pure panic. Well, the last place I used it was Hess. So I went back there, I was shaking, almost in tears. I went into the store, stood in line, and got to the cashier and asked, "has anyone turned in a.." and I looked to the left on the window sill--and there is was, "oh thank God, my debit card." I showed him my ID, he gave it back, and I thanked him again. I did cry for just a minute because of the relief. I have never lost a card before. Why on this trip of all trips??

It was time to get to the SSR Spa Women's lounge. I needed relaxation. I followed the WDW signs over to SSR. I checked in and made my way down to the lounge. I had an hour and 45 minutes to relax down there before my facial.

I love this spa. It's like pure bliss. I used the amenities for a bit, read a magazine, hung out, ate an orange, drank some tea, and took a shower before my treatment.

The deluxe facial was fantastic. I particularly liked the way she had the bed tilted so my legs and feet were elevated. Deep cleansing, 2 masks, exfoliation, extractions, arm & hand massage, scalp/neck/shoulder massage, and anti aging treament was all part of this. I made a good choice, and the extra 30 minutes were so worth it. AP holders get 10% off too!

After, I went down to shower again since I was a little oily from the scalp massage, etc. I got myself ready. My clothes were still wet, and I tried to take a blow dryer to them, lol--classy.

It was about 8:30, and although I wasn't super hungry from eating at 3.. I knew I would be hungry in a little bit. It was still raining so hard, and I had no interest in going back out in it. I had the genious idea of going over to the Turf Club.

I called DH on the way over and complained about the rain. It was awful. The SSR/DD boat was even closed. I was able to walk right up to the Turf Club. I ordered an Iced tea, French Onion Soup, and Mashed Potatoes. I wasn't hungry enough for an entree, but this was perfect. Bread was also served :)

f4f22425.jpg

I sat inside by the window. There were a few dummies dining outside, and the wind was so bad that it blew an entire tables stuff off. I couldn't help but giggle because... hello... tropical storm and you're sitting outside?? Yeah.

Once I was done, I realized that I had to face the music and go outside.

MK was open till 2am. Not interested.

DH wants more Vinylmations and I wanted more Basin. I first parked at the Marketplace, ran into Basin and got 2 barrels and 3 large bath bombs. I hopped back in the car, drove to the west side, ran into D-Street, blind traded my VM for Honest John... it was cute!! Got DH 3 more, got me 2 more, and go out of there. I was at my wits end of being soaked.

I got back to the room, organized my goods, and sat back down to the iPad. I made a list of places to call in the morning, and re-looked at a few places that I passed in my travels. I loved the location of Cane Island in Kissimmee, but it was over my price range. I didn't want to visit there and fall in love if I couldn't afford it. Then there was a few more places on Millenia that I wanted to check. Century Palms was too expensive, but a perfect location. Other places included Washer & Dryers. Grrrr. After I had a solid list of places to call, I put my business away. I grabbed my desserts out of the fridge and finished them off.

I planned on looking at 2 or 3 more places the next day, then spending the rest in the parks. It would be my last day!!

I tried to put my thoughts to rest, and went to sleep.
