The ~Totally Unofficial~ 2008 Half and Full Marathon Thread

Hi all,

Disney has released the new rates for the 1/2, Full, and Goofy.

They are $95, $105, & $225 The raised all races $5 and the Goofy is now $25 more than the combined races(the way it has been the last 2 years). They do offer a new shirt. Mighty nice of them for a $35 increase over last year. The Goofy will fill first so I guess I will have to eat it anyway early.

Goofy until I drop!

BTW, the marathon will have a "Top Secret" 15th Anniversery medal that won't be shown until the end of the race. Better sign up early!

Bree - I'm so glad to see you again!! Please feel free to pm me and i'll give you all my desparate ideas on how to exercise w/ kid in tow!!

Hello, hello! I'm also training for the full next year--wish I could go this year--but I started my training a little later--I am doing a full March the 4th (registered yesterday), so I'll need some PD for that. I'm already so excited about '08!!  Now, if I can just find a way to fund my trip!;)

Fab--it's good to hear from you!

eta--Does anyone know when they closed the registration for the full this year??? I'd love to register on Monday--but with Christmas draining my checking acct. and a trip to WDW in April, it might be May before the "extra" money is there--any info is appreciated!

Stephanie

I''m in for at least the half..but hubby said he would do the full. We'll see if he puts his money where his mouth is.

I have inklings to want to do the goofy--but not sure. If I can get a friend to do intervals with me (or just walk) the half--then I will be good to go.

I also think I have a babysitter lined up who I would trust to transport the three kidlets to the finish line.:woohoo:

I spend a lot of time on the CB. I've come to enjoy the word "Official". :teeth:

But really, I was just trying to have a narrower thread for a single race. I asked first (twice) and it seemed like there was no thread for the 2008 marathon.

The weekly thread is great, and there are clearly a lot of experienced runners there but right now the focus seems to be on the 2007 race, with runners who have known each other and supported each other all year and probably longer.

And who knows - maybe I'll just end up talking to myself all year. That's okay - with a five year old in the house I feel like that's what I spend most of my time doing anyhow.

FYI--the weekly threads got started b/c one thread gets too big and too cumbersome b/c we are a BIG BIG BIG group and many do leap from one event to the other.

Just to let you know. And we have all types on the weekly training threads--those who started with that first step 1 year ago as you are doing now for 2008.

It is not geared solely for the "experienced" but rather an all around training support group for any event at any time from 5K up to Marathon and even a few who venture into triathlons and adventure races.

Hey guys, thanks for starting this thread!
Having been a part of it last year, I share the excitement of those on the "official" WISH team thread, but I'm glad to see there is already a group of people setting their sites for the '08 race. Since that is my goal as well. :)
I'm having to start from the beginning again, because I have been out of running commission the last few months being pregnant and having a child.
I have been a new mom for a month now and I am itching to get back out onto the pavement. I had a c-section so I can't do anything until the dr. releases me to exercise again, hopefully she'll do that this week. But in the meantime I have been walking, which has been a welcomed change of scenery for the baby and I. This is the first time in three years I haven't run the disney marathon, and I am so bummed. Seeing this thread really cheered me up. Even though it's a year away I'm really excited to see some folks with the same goal as me.

Congrats on the baby--I am bummed this time around as well. I had thought of going over to meet the wish group, but it is just too exhausting of a venture :(.

The girls are getting good on their bikes and we are already talking about walks with baby in the stroller. Just gotta get my 4yo more proficient on her bicycle.

Hope you don't mind hearing from one more looking to '08. I've finally convinced DH to get off the couch and join me so he's looking to do the mini. My DSis and I are contemplating the Goofy (we need help)!! We did the Indianapolis Mini in May in right around 2:30 (a little less) but doing both is a little intimidating - even if we walk part of one.

I could really use some advice, y'all! I'm trying to decide whether to sign up for the full or half marathon. I've lost about 60 pounds over the last couple years by walking, and I've got about 20-30 more I'd like to lose. I can walk all day and not get tired, but other than running up and down the street with my kids, I haven't run since I was a kid myself (I'm 34 now). I just started running (barely) on 12/31, and wow!-- my legs were like jelly! My short-term goal is a 5k, but I'd really like to do at least the 2008 half marathon. I think I can do it, even if I wind up walking a large portion. But I'm tempted by the full marathon! Am I crazy to even consider it? My husband is very encouraging, but I'm still unsure. Any advice, suggestions, etc? I'd appreciate any feedback!

Abra Cat - Marathoning for Mortals by John Bingham has great advice on what race to do. I highly recommend it. It will help you with all aspects, plus has trainign shcedules.

It sounds like you would be a great fit fro run/walk intervals. When you walk, can you maintain a 16 minute per mail pace? If you can already do that for an hour or more, you could probably go with the full. Dh adn I started in 2005 with the walk/run teh half program and tehn went to run/walk the half, run/wallk teh full and then full run for the full. This took us from March to race day adn it worked for us, but it was a very hard year of training. You need to decide how much time you can spend training and see what's right for you. Whatever you decide, we'll be here for support!

Thank you, wtpclc! I'm glad to hear I'm not completely crazy, and I appreciate the support!

Great thread! I've been hanging out in the Minnie thread for a few days and decided it's not too early to think about 2008.

Is anyone doing the Goofy by walking one race and running the other? That medal is really tempting. :)

BTW, which thread are you guys using for weekly training? Is it the "Week of XX WISH Walking/Running Club" under Events?

That's it!!!!!! Please come join us! Well, many of us are heading or have headed to WDW for marathon, but next week it should be hopping again!

I to am headed for the Goofy in 2008. Been training for a year. I am doing my first half marathon in four weeks. I do not know if I will be able to run the full marathon. Hope to run the first half of the full then take it easy the last half. I will be wearing my wish shirt. Cannot wait to see you all there.
Happy Training
Roxy:)

I just started running Spring 2006 with the goal of doing a few 5ks. After a while I got involved with the local running group who were training for winter marathons. I decided to sign up for the half. Now that it is here I am disappointed that I did not sign up for the full.

I picked up my packet tonight for the half. I will be running the Goofy next year, the marathon for me and the half with my son.

I say go for the full and remember it's not about the time.....it's about the experience.

Hey all,

I'm seriously thinking about doing the WDW 1/2 again or the full. Not sure.

But, I'm thinking about it for next year.

I really enjoyed it back in 2005! It was so much fun.

Hi Melanie C: Good to see you again! I had a great time at the 2005 1/2 marathon. My plan is to do the 1/2 in 2008. Hope to see you there again!

We just snuck over to visit the WISH team at their meet today.

Everyone looks GREAT!!! Wish I was running with them this weekend.

Big team--let's make it bigger!!!

And let's beat the broom!
