The ~Totally Unofficial~ 2008 Half and Full Marathon Thread

I once did a 20+ step post on how to past pics. SOmeone asked me to tell it to them slowly, so I inclued some breaks too. ;)

And *that* is how someone manages to train for and finish a marathon, is my guess. I suspect one has to be pretty methodical.

Where have you stayed during the WDW races?

lol. Yeah, one step at a time. Still need to apply these principals to the rst of my life, though. ;)

I stayed at SSR last year. Jan will be my second trip and I'll be at BCV. Neither of them are known for being the best, I just stay where I want to. Most people like OKW, POFQ or monorails best. If you go to the who's participating fo r07 thread, it lists where most people are staying.

Thank you for the tip- I will!

Good evening....I finally have a computer again at home....wahoooo

Well did 15K on my stationary bike tonight. Took me 48 mins 30 seconds. I figure I better be able to ride it before I try to walk/run/jog it in May for the Minnie.

Hope you all have a great night.

Thanks again for the 08 Donald.

Kim

You are so good at working out regularly! I just negotiated with the babysitter to be here 3 mornings a week - so I'm hoping that between that and the weekends, I'll be able to stick to a 5 day a week schedule of slogging.

Have a great Saturday - I'm hoping my run goes well tomorrow.

And anybody who is reading but not posting - feel free to take the donald marathon picture for your sig. - I find that I stick to things better if I publicly commit to them!

Good Morning.....actually it is afternoon....wow where is the day going.

How was your run???

We just booked our flight and hotel for the Minnie in May. I am so excited. I am going to wait to register as I hear it doesn't book up quickly but I will book it in the New Year.

I hope they do a picture for the Minnie soon, I would like to add that one.

Sorry, gotta run I thought I had more time to chat.

Have a great day.

Kim

Man, I'm really bummed that they are changing the dates of the marathon for 2008 :guilty: . I love seeing the Christmas decorations...everything is so festive. Bummer. I won't how the crowds are during the mid Jan.

My wife and I are doing the Goofy, Minnie, and Race for the Taste in 07. I plan to be doing my 3rd Goofy in 08.

Wow! That is amazing. The people I saw last year with the Goofy medals were super fit and still seemed to have energy *after* the races. :Pinkbounc

One of the things that suprised me is that people used portable radios during the race, even though the paperwork from Disney said they weren't allowed. Please let us know if there are other things like this we should know! :)

Hockeychic - I wish I had a better running weekend. DH was sick and it was birthday central around here - so I'm feeling a little disheartened. I should have got up earlier both days and made it happen. :guilty: Tomorrow the babysitter comes - so I know I won't miss that run.

Monte - as for the dates - I agree that the decorations were really festive and fun, but I was a bit burned out after a month (or more!) of Christmas last year and really didn't need to see them in January. So, I'm ambivalent. I am actually glad that they didn't have it so close to New Year's though, as we rent a house each year with friends for the week between Christmas and New Year's and I think I would have been soooooo tired.

Have a great training day, everyone!

Fab: Hope DH is feeling better. Good luck on your run today. I really have to get my eatting under control. Exercise is going great but still eatting junk. So hard when I have all these Christmas goodies around me.

I wish the 1/2 was the weekend before, just so the kids would miss less school. Now sure if we will bring them or leave them with the grandparents. We will probably come in a few days early and do some parks. But then on the other hand maybe better to also get the rest from a busy week before we attempt this.

Not sure what I posed here and what on the other thread but did another 15K on the bike Sat, beat my time by 4 mins and 7 seconds. Also did a 10K walk in 1 hour, 33 mins and some seconds. Legs are a bit sore today.

I will only do a short walk today, maybe 5K.

Opps gotta run, have a great day

Kim

Hey guys, thanks for starting this thread!
Having been a part of it last year, I share the excitement of those on the "official" WISH team thread, but I'm glad to see there is already a group of people setting their sites for the '08 race. Since that is my goal as well. :)
I'm having to start from the beginning again, because I have been out of running commission the last few months being pregnant and having a child.
I have been a new mom for a month now and I am itching to get back out onto the pavement. I had a c-section so I can't do anything until the dr. releases me to exercise again, hopefully she'll do that this week. But in the meantime I have been walking, which has been a welcomed change of scenery for the baby and I. This is the first time in three years I haven't run the disney marathon, and I am so bummed. Seeing this thread really cheered me up. Even though it's a year away I'm really excited to see some folks with the same goal as me.

zoegirl: congrats on the new addition to the family. Hope the doctor releases you soon.

As for my training, and my plan: It has fallen by the wayside. I am completely unmotivated, and feel like a big, fat lazy slob. I have a tendency to ignore these threads when things aren't going well, so hopefully, the fact that I am posting now will get me back on track--or at least somewhere in the vicinity of the track!

WTG all of you who are working your plan.

OK, that's the 2nd time you've read my mind today! ;) Hope your motivation comes back soon!

Bree (zoegirl)! Good to see you! Hang in tehre until teh doc says ok and please be careful when you get the ok!

Way to keep up the good work everyone!

Does anyone know what the crowds are like during the 2nd week of Jan?

Thanks Carrie! I don't plan on getting too crazy too soon, but I can't wait to get back in the swing of things.

NCRedding - I totally understand how you feel, we have all felt that way, but hang in there, and keep plugging away at it. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Monte - It has been my experience that the crowds are very thin around that time of year. We've usually stayed the week following the marathon and never had to wait long for anything, including restaurants.

Going to get a walk in today. DMIL has offered to come over on Monday afternoons to give me a little break from baby Lucas to go for a walk. BLESS HER  I put new batteries in my mp3 player so I'm set to go!!

Later for now!

~bree~

monte - After Sunday, they die back quickly. Pretty slow rest of teh week. HTH!

Bree-- Welcome Back, sweetie! How is your little future marathoner doing?

Hey Cam!
My sweet Lucas is doing fabulous. He has very strong legs, even his pediatrician commented on how strong they are. He kept one foot lodged in my ribs the whole last month of my pregnancy. So I'm sure he'll be running along side of me and his granddaddy soon enough! :rotfl: I'm going to try to get DH to post a pic later today.
Are you getting ready for the big race in a few weeks? I'm sad I won't be joining you guys this year, but I'm already getting geared up for next year.

--I went for a 30 minute walk yesterday. It felt good to be out, I'm a little sore but I'm sure that's just from lack of movement the last 5 months. My drs appointment is tomorrow. My fingers are crossed that she'll give me the go ahead to do more than walk.

Hey BREE!!

Sooo good to hear from you! Glad you all are doing well!

Christa has been keeping us well informed during the year. We were all excited to see the pictures.

Don't worry, you will be back at it soon. You have more important things to take care of right now! :grouphug:
