'The title's a secret' Pre-trip report

Hey Joh,

To help with your planning I found this in the free London paper last night:

Protest camp for Heathrow

It will be 14th - 21st August and they plan to block roads and railways at the airport plus inflitrate terminal buildings.

Therefore you might want to give yourself extra time to get to the airport.

Joh!!! How is it possible that I have missed this???

Love your pretrip so far! I use a combo of persistance and wiles with DH. It's more like,

DH..ieeeee.......I want to go back to Disneeeeyy Wooorrrrld......Can you do that for meeeeee?

He shakes his head absently, "Yeah." (He's usually on the computer)

I'm lucky - he's a bigger WDW freak than me, I think!

I am SO subscibed to this now!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Joh-

Sometime you just have to hit me over the head and tell me to get my butt someplace. I found this a few dasy ago and am now up to date. I love that both you & Jo are doing pre-tripies. You are going to have a blast without the kiddos.
And so the title of the trip is born:

Fred and Wilma do DVC, DCL and DDP
Love the title!

Joh we don't overlap at all! August really isn't that bad just drink tons and put on tons of cream and do shady rides when it's the hottest oh and you won't sweat you'll just glisten :lmao:
Jo- I almost peed myself. :lmao: Tell her the truth Jo...It is so hot and humid the walls outside sweat and you feel like your clothes are stuck to your body with sweat and humity! Now that is the truth...We Minnesotans don't like heat either!:rotfl:

full on commando trip. And I fully intended to...

Joh I suppose going without underwear has something to do with your No. 3 method :rolleyes1

Loving your reports and wishing Theresa and I were coming with you.

Well I'll be, me and the girls are in World Showcase the same night as you! We have an ADR at San Angel Inn. What i want to know is, as we were planning to drink round the world too, is there going to be anything left to drink with Matt going? Does not bode well:confused3

Sorry Claire - can't promise that Matt will leave any alcohol for the rest of the WS patrons that night ;)

Which would you prefer, cruisning with a cocktail in hand or battling heat and crowds at AK? No competition girl:goodvibes

Hmmm, that's a toughie - NOT!!! :boat: ;)

Hi hun and welcome. I am keeping my fingers crossed that you can persuade your DH that you NEED another trip in April ;)

:rotfl2: Oh my, I am even more dreading the heat now :scared1: I think it was up to about 70 or so here the other day and I said to DH 'this is like Florida' - he just laughed and said 'Yeh, add another 20 or so degrees' :scared:

Joh I suppose going without underwear has something to do with your No. 3 method :rolleyes1

Loving your reports and wishing Theresa and I were coming with you.

Tony, we wish you and Theresa could be there too. We've still got time to persuade you though ;)

Joh

Not sure how I missed your pre-trippie up to now - but what a great one it is.

Sounds like you have everything sorted.

As for your compliments - well they made me blush  I have to say - and as for cooking I have to tell everyone that your rosemary and potato rolls and krispie cakes were just perfect at the DIS meet - and I NEED the recipes.

Can't wait to meet up again - have you decided on the GGG? If not Jellyrolls it is.:cool1:

I love your pre-trippie Joh! It had me in stitches!

I know what you mean about 'holidays for rich people' :) We never went either - which is why we are taking such a huge trip now! And I conclude that those techniques do in fact work ;) The 'we're saving money' is my favourite. Oh, and also the 'it's not much more, but it's sooo much better' - this however can escalate:

Original Plan: Let's go to SeaWorld and stroke a dolphin
2: Let's go to SeaWorld and take the dolphin tour, it's only $X more
3: Let's go to Discovery Cove and swim with fish, it's only $X more
4. Let's just do the dolphin swim, it's only $X more

Of course it's not much more than option 3, but a LOT more than the original plan! I tend to do this a bit

I love that photo of you and everyone :) You look like a really fun crowd! I think I'll have to frequent the UK board a bit more!

I love your daughter's welsh names :teeth: Can't wait for another installment!

So, DH has agreed that we can go, let the planning begin. Who am I kidding, the planning began weeks ago :rotfl:

It was fate! In theory, just by switching resorts, we’re saving $400. So, in reality, the cruise is only costing us $600. We would probably pay nearly half that amount for accommodation at a decent place off-site for the weekend anyway.

This is honestly how my mind works – come on, admit it – you guys all do that too don’t you?

Hey, I don’t need to justify it – I’m already sold!

Hi Joh
how did I miss this , great start ,:thumbsup2
are you reading my mind becaucse this is how I get round DH too :lmao:
some how talked him into changing our 4 night cruise to a 7 night one
like its only $800 more , sure we would would spent that on food and rooms , forgot to mention that we are going from a CAT 10 to a 12 , but little things like that are not important,:rotfl:
Have a great trip , looking forward to hearing more  and seeing you are so much like me in your thinking lots more changes to be made:rolleyes1

Hi Tam, you made Daniel's day when he got his parcel on Monday - he was thrilled and it was so sweet of you to put the stickers in for him. You may have seen we are hoping to make a fleeting visit to the GGG on the Saturday, weather and work permitting, but if not we are definitely on for Jellyrolls :thumbsup2

Hiya hun, glad you made it over here - lovely to see you. You are going to have so much fun on your trip - in a way I'm a bit jealous as there's nothing really that matches that 'first time' feeling - there's definitely something there that keeps us going back over and over again though.

Thanks for the compliment on the girls' names - not quite sure how I managed to pick two Welsh names mind :confused3

Hi Jackie, I'm sure there are plenty of us women who have ways of getting round our DH's ;) There may be a couple of changes in the pipeline - I must admit to having second thoughts about the accommodation but the final payment is due in 10 days so it's almost too late....

If there is anything guaranteed to send my DH into a state of panic and tighten his already-firm grip on his wallet, it’s those three little words…

I’ve…

been…

thinking!

The conversation always goes like this:

Me: I’ve been thinking
DH: You don’t want to do that (whilst clutching his wallet firmly with both hands)
Me: No, seriously, I’ve been thinking
DH: How much is it gonna cost me?

Whilst it is true that my ‘thinking’ generally results in us parting with cold, hard cash, it is always done with the best of intentions and usually results in an improved overall vacation experience.

That is why I was not surprised that it took all of 5 minutes for me to talk him round to my latest idea…

I had heard talk of a new show at Universal involving some people known as ‘Blue Man Group’ and made it my business to investigate further. My explorations led me to the firm conclusion that this was something DH would really enjoy and, therefore, earn me some extra credit in my role as ‘vacation planner extraordinaire’. My task in this instance was made more difficult by the fact that DH was working away for 6 weeks and had no access to the internet so I was unable to show him the excellent video footage I’d found on youtube, so I had to resort to the next best thing – I read out the reviews from the DIS of course

And it worked. He agreed that we should go see the show and told me to go ahead and book the tickets. As a Universal passholder, I get 10% off tickets but needed to call the passholder line to do it. After some major faffing about (a technical term popular in the UK), including 3 interminably long calls to the US, I was finally able to secure two tickets for the show on Sunday August 26th.

Our plans were finally coming together – only 4 things remained to be finalised:- a hotel at the airport the night before we fly, car parking at the airport, car rental for the duration of our vacation and tickets (Annual pass versus MYW).

Luckily, I managed to kill two birds with one stone by booking the Holiday Inn at Heathrow, which also included car parking for 15 days (more than ample for our needs) for the bargain price of £59 (approx $120). I’m sure it won’t be a patch on our usual pre-flight choice of hotel (the Hilton) but it’s a bed for the night and eliminates the need to leave the in-laws house at stupid o’clock on the Monday morning.

Meanwhile, we have had a couple of quotes for car rental and are just waiting for the right time to book.

We are still undecided on tickets – the idea of annual passes at Disney is appealing but the sensible side of me knows that we could probably get 2 or 3 trips out of a 10 day MYW pass. The debate continues….

I think you'll love the BMG. They really put on a great - and very energetic - show.:woohoo:

A great pre-trippie Joh :thumbsup2
I'm so glad that i'm not alone, i've read so many things you've wrote & thought ''thats me!!''
Never got to WDW as a child & dreamed of going - ''thats me''
combat mode around the parks - ''me''
all the get DH to book tactics - ''yep''
post trip depression need to start planning next trip - ''scary''
thinking of all the little extra add ons after booking & talking DH into it -
''i mustnt let him see your thread''
& dont forget adding the DCL trip will save you money as you dont have to buy your meals as there included in the price (always works well that one ;))

Looking forward to reading what you thought of the August weather cos we've got trip booked next August & never done that time..gulp..

Have a great trip :goodvibes

Joh, I knew you had a new pre tripie here somewhere and I finally found it! But then when the title is a secret it is hard to find! :) And I do believe that when woman was created, part of her purpose in life was to help men part with money!:rotfl2:

Oh my goodness! I killed Joh's thread!!!!!!!!!!:scared1:

Is the title such a secret that you've moved it somewhere else just to give me a thread-killer complex????:rotfl2: Seriously, throw me a bone here..JOh??? someone, anyone?????

I've found this to always be the most efficient technique. What a treasure we have.:rotfl:

Hi there and thanks for reading - I am really looking forward to seeing BMG. And, yes, the feminine wiles technique usually proves to be the most effective - I have no idea why :rotfl:

:rotfl2:

Joh you're hysterical :rotfl:

Why thank you - you should see me when I've had a few Martinis ;)

Wow that's a really good price :thumbsup2

Well done on getting your tickets :thumbsup2

Thanks - how is your pre-trippy coming along by the way? Is there anything other than gossip on there yet ;)

A great pre-trippie Joh :thumbsup2

Hi Tracey, nice to see you. I have been reading Lala's trip report (Overdue and Overpacked - The Lalas take on the World). It's a great read, you should check it out - anyway, the point of my waffle is that Lala's trippy introduced me to the delights of the word 'Borg' - apparently it is taken from a race of people on Star Trek who are 'one' - they think the same basically. So, what you are describing above is known as 'Borg' :thumbsup2 I will definitely let you know how bearable (or un) the heat in August is.

Glad you found it Cherie - despite the title ;) And you're so right - I consider it my God-given right to help my husband part with his money. It's fair to say I usually part with a fair bit of my own at the same time though :)

Oh my goodness! I killed Joh's thread!!!!!!!!!!:scared1:

Is the title such a secret that you've moved it somewhere else just to give me a thread-killer complex????:rotfl2: Seriously, throw me a bone here..JOh??? someone, anyone?????

Lol Cherie, if it's any consolation, it was probably on its last legs anyway :rotfl:

Joh, thanks for posting something...........I was begining to think my new naturalism, going without deodarant or brushing my teeth, could be smelled thru the net!
