'The title's a secret' Pre-trip report

Fred and Wilma do DVC, DCL and DDP
ta-dah!! I like it, the initials help the flow of the title, a well thought out choice:laughing: So now we know, it sounds fab Joh, you have a new experience for gary with DCL, variety of resort and a freebie thrown in, very good indeed:goodvibes

And how does this title figure in with our wiles? Your DH will certainly be in the know now! DDP, DVC and DCL all in one! WD!

It is so much fun to read your threads, I've been sitting here all afternoon. Post more please!

I saw signs for Miami when we went to St. Augustine. When we got to Orlando the sign said 280 miles to Miami. So it should only be a six hour ride. Heck people drive that ever weekend in Wisconsin when the go to Northern Wisconsin.-especially those irritating Illinois people, where they don't have to pay a toll for entering Wisconsin.

Great Pre-trip. I have a husband, whose eyes glaze over when ever I talk about planning, or shopping. I should plan a trip and see if he notices. We just came home from WDW last month.

P.S. You do know how hot it is in August, don't cha.

We need to see if all of us have any overlapping days, see if we have any of the same park days or anything?

I will be posting our itinerary in the next couple of days, Jo, so stay tuned :thumbsup2

ta-dah!! I like it, the initials help the flow of the title, a well thought out choice:laughing:

I actually thought of the title before Gary had actually agreed to everything and that was my final persuasion tactic - "C'mon babe, we have to go - I've thought of the title for my trip report and everything" :lmao:

It is so much fun to read your threads, I've been sitting here all afternoon. Post more please!

Thank you - I have also been enjoying your pre-trip report :)

And how does this title figure in with our wiles? Your DH will certainly be in the know now! DDP, DVC and DCL all in one! WD!

I hate to say it but I think he is already wise to me - he does it more for the fun of watching me beg and plead, I think

Welcome - and thanks for that bit of info

Hmmm, yes I think we're beginning to realise - stay tuned, there's some more coming on that ;)

It’s time I introduced everyone. Although this is an adult only trip, I will still introduce the kids – purely to get the chance to tell you all about them :)

DH – Fred –The love of my life. He tells me he won the lottery of life the day he met me but I know it was the other way around. He indulges me in my Disney vacation obsession, goes along with my plans and puts up with my compulsive over-planning and incessant worrying. He doesn’t ‘get’ it (I think you either do or you don’t and I don’t think he ever will) but he enjoys himself when we’re there, which is good enough for me.

Me – Wilma
– Ever since I was a kid, I wanted to go to Disney World. Our family didn’t take vacations. They were only for rich people. I never thought I would ever get to go – and, here I am, planning my 5th trip. I am truly lucky. I have a tendency to worry and fret. Fred says I’m at my happiest when I have something to worry about - that’s not true. I’m at my happiest when I’m planning a trip to Disney. I suffer terribly with post-trip depression and I never quite recover until I’ve booked again. But I’ve found a cure for that – it’s called having a trip ‘in hand’ – always be in the process of planning the next trip before you return from the current one.

So, that is me and Fred – and here we are in the ‘flesh’

IMG_1770a.jpg

If we look a little drunk in the picture, it’s because we are. It was taken at Jellyrolls on DH’s 40th Birthday trip. A good time was had by all that night

There are some other people who will feature heavily in this trip report (either in person or in spirit).

Firstly, the other 3 loves of my life – the kids:

DD1 – Sian - A 13 year-old walking and talking (well, grunting) teenager. Larger than life - and just as hormonal. In all seriousness, she is a great girl and a real help to me when it comes to looking after offspring number 3. She loves Disney but is getting to that age where it might not be considered cool – so she’s all about High school Musical and Hannah Montana rather than Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh. But I think she secretly still loves it all.

DD2 – Rhiannon - A 12 year old version of my Dad. DD2 is the original wind-up merchant. Being in the same room as her and my Dad is beyond annoying – they are like a pair of kids, poking at each other and bickering. She is definitely the quieter of the two, though, and loves nothing more than drawing – she is a dab hand at drawing the Disney characters – and tormenting the cat. Does anyone know if it’s possible to love a cat to death???

DS – Daniel - A 4 year old whirlwind. His mouth doesn’t stop moving from morning until night – and, I swear, he talks in is sleep. He can go from 0 to devil in less than 60 seconds, but can go from devil to angel just as quickly. There isn’t a day goes by that he doesn’t have DH and I doubled up with laughter at his antics. He can’t wait until his first trip to ‘the Merica’ and Disney World, where he is going to meet Mickey Mouse, go to Epricot (?!), go on the yeti coaster and have ice cream and cake for breakfast. Oh, and most importantly, ride Splash Mountain.

Although the kids are staying behind this year, we plan to take them to WDW in April 2008 and I can’t wait for our first ever family holiday. But, for now, it’s all about the adults – the kids have their own plans and, apparently, they don’t include us. The girls are excited to be going to stay with their Grandma, who will indulge them, not make them go to bed at 9 o’clock every night and let them eat what they like. And, as for DS – he will be wearing out the in-laws, who will do much the same as the girls’ Grandma except for the bed thing – even if you let DS stay up past 6:30, he would be begging to be allowed to go to bed. He is definitely not a night owl.

Next up we have the co-stars. But first, allow me to indulge in a little past history.

Flashback: I found and joined the DIS back in 2004, shortly before my first trip to WDW. Unfortunately, I was more of a lurker than a poster and the next time I ventured back in July 2005, I had forgotten my original login details. So I re-registered and started again. This time, I threw myself into it with gusto. I started posting a lot more on the UK Community Boards. Fast forward to March 2006 and a fellow UK DISer suggested a DIS meet in the South West. That is where we are from but, at the time, we were living in Northern Ireland. Not a problem – we’ll just fly back and spend the weekend at my Dad’s, go along to the DIS meet and get to know some of these ‘internet freaks’ (my DH’s term for my fellow DIS friends). So, I went to the meet and met some lovely people. Since that first meet, we have been lucky enough to meet several DISers and I now feel privileged to be able to call some of them ‘friends’. I must also add that, now he has got to know them, DH no longer considers them to be internet freaks – just freaks!!

Back to the present day and, when DH and I were planning this trip for August, we realised that some of our DIS friends would be in the World at the same time. What a bonus! All too soon, we had made some plans to meet up and indulge in one of our favourite pastimes – drinking! So, without further ado, I would like to introduce you to:

Deb and Matt – When I first met Deb, I knew straight away that we would get on. She is glamorous and vivacious, with an infectious personality. She has been an absolute star over the last couple of weeks, allowing me to talk her ear off about ADRs, flights, APs, car rental and just about anything else you can think of. Matt, her DH, is a real character. He has a dry sense of humour and a witty response for just about any situation. They are a great couple and excellent company.

Kev and Tam – Kev is the life and soul of the party. Another one with a wicked sense of humour, he and Matt are an excellent double act. Tam is elegant, glamorous and very much makes me feel like the ‘ugly sister’ to her Cinderella. She is an excellent cook and well renowned for her creative use of Brussels sprouts.

India and Georgia – Kev and Tam’s daughters, India and Georgia are well-mannered, polite and mature. They are the kind of kids who make your own look badly behaved without even trying. I tell myself that they’re probably as hormonal and bad-tempered as mine behind closed doors – it makes me feel better ;)

Here we all are – this picture was taken at our house last August

Coming next: To AP or not to AP and ‘Just how hot is August really?’

To AP or not to AP and ‘Just how hot is August really?’

Definately AP I say, discounts are so worth it and I haven't even been yet:goodvibes Um yes August is beyond hot and if you actually try to watch the 3pm parade in the sun, fully expect to look like a melting Madame Tussauds waxwork, not pretty:sad2: Actually remember nearly passing out at DTD last August, was about 1pm and i didn't think i was going to make it to the bus stop, but it sounds like you are aware already of some of this, will wait to see what you post now I have so rudely jumped in ahead of you, sorry:rolleyes1

You know more than one Deb, right? Seriously, that's possibly the nicest thing anyone's ever said about me. :flower3:

Ahem, two points I would like to make.

Surely with you love of initials, rather than "Fred and Wilma do DVC, DCL and DDP" should it not be F&W @ DVC, DCL with DDP??:confused3

Secondly, as you've named only 6 non-family members and there are more than 6 in the photo, I would like to point out to your readers that I am the good looking one:thumbsup2 :cool1:

Actually remember nearly passing out at DTD last August
I've had the same problem Claire. I remember a time, Deb and I had been in a park in the morning, and were planning a drinkie at lunch time, we arrived at the venue at 11am (proper opening time), only to discover that the "joint" didn't open until noon:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: I came over all faint, and had to have a sit down!:lmao:

Joh-
What can I say? I'm hooked already! I love it! You sound soooo much like me! Your ‘Get your own way eventually method’ is classic - every step has been used by me at one point or another! LOL! :rotfl: A Disney cruise! Wow! What an add-on to a trip you weren't even supposed to take! I'm in awe. You sure worked that Disney Fuzzy Math. :thumbsup2 I used the 'think of all the money we'll save' line on my hubby to get our upcoming October trip. We weren't planning on going back to WDW until Christmas 2008! That's just toooo long between trips for me. I told him how much we would save by going on another trip before our APs expire - and after a few days of whining, he gave in. :rolleyes1

I'm so glad you came over from the UK boards! It's really nice to meet you!

-Michelle

P.S. You're going to love SSR! We stayed there when it first opened and really had a great time. I loved the walk to Downtown Disney - and it's very convenient getting back from a late night at Pleasure Island! :cool2:

I am a planner at heart. Yes, it’s true; when we went in February I didn’t plan. But I wasn’t truly comfortable. I survived – and I’ll even go as far as to say that it was nice to lay in occasionally and not be rushing to get to the parks every day – BUT, I came home feeling like we’d hardly ‘done’ anything. Add to the fact that our trip next April is going to include a 5 year old and 2 pensioners, which pretty much puts a stop to commando touring, this is my last chance to plan a jam-packed, full on commando trip. And I fully intended to...

Right about the time I started to think about our plans, I started to question whether we would need additional tickets. We both have non-expiring MYW hoppers with water park fun etc. etc. which still have 2 park days and 4 fun days on. We will also have our 1 day MYW base tickets, which we have bought with our free dining package. Initially, we were thinking we would have enough tickets to more than cover the park days we wanted to spend. I couldn’t help but think it made sense to buy APs, though, especially with the DVC discount. I enquired as to whether we could use our 1-day base tickets towards an AP with the discount and, apparently, we can. So we (well, I) are now trying to decide whether to buy APs in August or wait until April. We like the idea of having the AP so we can just pop in and out of a park but, at the same time, we are also planning to spend a couple of days over at Universal and Islands of Adventure so, in reality, we probably won’t need more than a couple of park days. The jury is still out on this one. Personally, I think it will all rest on whether we have the money in August to spare.

Then something else happened. I stumbled across a thread on the DVC Mousecellaneous board entitled ‘How HOT does it get in August’. The sensible side of me was saying ‘Just ignore it, you don’t really want to know’ but it was a car crash moment – I just had to look. And then wished I hadn’t. The one response which stuck in my mind was this one ‘We saw a dog chasing a cat and they were both walking’ – dang, that’s hot! The British are renowned for complaining when it’s cold – and then complaining when it’s hot. And I am just the same. All winter, while wrapping up in scarves, jumpers, coats and gloves, I grumble and mumble about the weather. Then, summer rolls around, temperatures soar to the high 70s and everyone, including me, moans about how fricking hot it is. The term ‘never satisfied’ was invented for us Brits. According to reports, the temperatures in Orlando in August are up around the 90s, if not higher – eek!!! What have I done?

Anyway, nothing we can do about it now but I do know one thing. All my plans for commando touring have now gone straight out of the window. We will get to the parks early, spend a couple of hours, then return to the hotel to chill (or melt) by the pool. So, working with the tickets we’ve got, I have come up with a ‘perfect for August weather’ itinerary – allowing us to get our fill of the parks but still allowing some time for R&R and chilling by the pool. It is not as detailed as I’d like yet but I’ve still time to improve that.

Monday 20th August – Fly from London Heathrow to Miami. Pick up rental car and drive to Orlando, where we will check in at Saratoga Springs. Welcome home!!!

Tuesday 21st August – Islands of Adventure – we’re Annual Passholders here (boo, hiss) and we need our adrenalin fix. Check out the SSR pool in the afternoon/evening.

Wednesday 22nd August – Universal Studios - Jellyrolls for the night with Kev, Tam, Deb and Matt

Thursday 23rd August
– Head to Cape Canaveral, where we will meet up with the Disney Wonder and sail off into the sunset

Friday 24th August – On board DCL – Nassau

Saturday 25th August – On board DCL – Castaway Cay

Sunday 26th August – Back to WDW, check in to ASMu, chill by the pool

Monday 27th August – Breakfast at Crystal Palace, then hop over to Epcot for lunchtime where we will meet up with Deb and Matt and enjoy ‘Drinks around the World’ with a dinner ADR at Le Cellier

Tuesday 28th August – Depending how we are feeling, we may head to a water park today. If not, we will spend some time at the pool (are you noticing a trend here). We also want to check out the new AKV units. We have an ADR for late lunch at Kona Cafe. We were also thinking of attending the Pirates & Princess Party at MK – haven’t ruled it out entirely

Wednesday 29th August – No plans as yet, but I know DH won’t want to leave without a visit to the studios so we may head here – dinner ADR at WPC. Possibly meet up with Deb and Matt again?

Thursday 30th August – Time to go home already. It feels like we just arrived. Drive down to Miami to catch our outbound flight, stopping somewhere nice for lunch along the way – any recommendations?

So, there you have it – our plans. I’m not entirely happy that we haven’t got Animal Kingdom in there anywhere but we’ll see what pans out. There’s still over 12 weeks to go – a lot can change ;)

Michelle, thanks so much - I am glad I came over here too. I have read some fantastic trippies over the last few days :thumbsup2 well done on using the fuzzy Disney math to your advantage ;)

Looking forward to reading more. Great photos!

Thanks - it might sound soft but we love our DIS friends :)

Joh we don't overlap at all! August really isn't that bad just drink tons and put on tons of cream and do shady rides when it's the hottest oh and you won't sweat you'll just glisten :lmao:

Well I'll be, me and the girls are in World Showcase the same night as you! We have an ADR at San Angel Inn. What i want to know is, as we were planning to drink round the world too, is there going to be anything left to drink with Matt going? Does not bode well:confused3

Otherwise the plan is great! Its very hard trying to fit it all in, thats why multiple trips are a necessity, but I don't know if we're gonna get to it all either. You've done well with the time you've got though. Which would you prefer, cruisning with a cocktail in hand or battling heat and crowds at AK? No competition girl:goodvibes
