Or as I call it, the "you've got to be kidding me" experience.

Have you ever went to buy some thing, maybe you've never purchased it before or maybe it's been a long time and thought...

YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! :goodvibes

My first experience was when I had to replace my washer and dryer a few years back. My old set lasted me 19 years :woohoo: and I think cost me 300 bucks for the pair. Good Lord, I had no idea they had gone up in price. :scared1:

Anyway,
Went to Lowes a few days ago to pick up some paint for a painting job....

$43 bucks for a gallon of paint (cue the music) YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!

So has the price of some thing made you jaw drop lately?

I bought paint from Lowe's this week, also. Yup, $43. Of course, I'm sure a different brand would have cost less, but I went for the Premium stuff.

My other shock this week was the cost of fast food. $25 for my family of four to eat at Burger King--and that was with a kids' meal!

Anything Disney related! I looked into some behind the scenes tour I wanted to maybe surprise DH with- $250?!! Are you kidding me?!

DH already commented that the cost of flights for our upcoming trip would be a nice luxury holiday in Spain... heck, one flight would be a nice luxury holiday in Egypt. Sigh.

haHA! My Dh went paint shopping last week (home depot) and came home shocked at the price of a gallon....:rotfl2: lucky for him I found a return gallon at Lowes for 8.00 that I liked for our guestroom:cool1: I went makeup shopping at Sephora with friends..... my jaw dropped a few times at what most of them feel is pretty routine stuff to buy:scared1: and the cost of a perfume.... I say to a friend,'ooo, that smells nice...' they tell me the name of it, I go to store and look....:scared1:

Is there a similar thread for disney only stuff? I would love to find out what things I should bring myself and not have to buy at outrageous disney prices.

I have to say fast food and breakfasts out. When Dh and I were dating we would often go out to breakfast because it was so inexpensive. Not anymore. The last time we had fast food we could have gone to an inexpensive restaurant for just a little more.

It is odd but when I was growing up we had fast food every Saturday and Sunday. My parents were very frugal. They would never pay the going price now. I must say however that the portions are probably 3x the size now as opposed to then.

Do not know of a thread but I am sure that they are out there. Just about anything you might need. Tylenol, cold medicine, any personal care items you might need, sunscreen, glow sticks for kids. If you are driving water and soda. Snacks for your room and park lines.

Went out to dinner last week and my main course was a salad, which was
$20. I don't mind spending money on good food and service but I have a thing about spending money on salad LOL Salad is really my main meal most of the time but I have a hard time spending money on it. It bothers me to even spend $5 on a salad, why, I don't know, but it kills me. So, ordering a $20 salad only pushed me to order another mojito so it wouldn't bother me too much :rotfl:

$30 for a Timex watch. Virtually the same electronics inside the watch as in a calculator that sells for $4.

Not me but DH had sticker shock for food in general. He had been complaining that I had been consistently blowing through our food budget every pay period so I started sending him to Sam's after his soccer games to pick up some of our groceries. Now he gets it.

DS has to get his wisdom teeth out soon. I keep thinking that I'm prepared for dentists to be outrageously expensive but they keep surprising me anyway.

I had a reverse shock with DDs wisdom teeth. Total out of pocket $0. We were double insured for a few weeks (didn't plan it that way!).

My most recent "how much for what?" was a few weeks ago, I ordered caterpillars for little DDs (4 and 6) so we could watch them become butterflies. Total was $19 (w/shipping)! Worked out to about $2/caterpiller!!

I will say, it's been incredible watching those buggers! And now we have 6 chrysalises!! Moving them to their habitat today and hopefully will have 6 Painted Lady butterflies in another week or so.

clothes

$40 for a tee shirt. $100 for ripped jeans, $100 for shoes that my son will outgrow in 6 months, and you want how much for a bathing suit that won't cover my teenager's butt????

I was about to post the same thing - clothes, but for adults.

I saw a cute T-shirt at the mall and it was $40. It's a T-shirt not some nice piece of clothing. For $40 that T better wash, dry, and hang itself up in my closet! I can get a cute T-shirt at Target, Penney's, or H&M for about $10.

My recent, unexpected, crown on one tooth. I thought it might be about $1000, it was over $1600. EEK. Thanks to insurance that paid back $719 of it.....only out $900ish.

My DDs flight to/from Germany...just over $1600. That's crazy.

my family knows that if we go to jc penny's, walmart or shopko, no matter what our intended trip is for-I hit the t-shirt section in the men's department. we are a family that lives in t-shirts and my family likes their interests/hobbies on them. I can routinely find the identical t-shirts that are sold at hot topic and on-line for a fraction of the cost (non sale-$7-$9, on sale-buy one get one half off vs. at least $30).
