The Thanksgiving Letter-- can you imagine??

On the one hand, I think the letter-writer would probably be much happier if she didn't host the Thanksgiving dinner. It's obviously too much work.

On the other hand, having hostessed a few Thanksgiving dinners, I can understand some of the history that may have turned this hostess into a raving lunatic. Firstly, the letter is addressed to 6 families so she's presumably hosting a dinner for roughly 20-30 people. Having been there-done-that and reading in-between the lines, I can see that the hostess is sick and tired of dealing with mooches who don't contribute any food items; people who say they'll bring a food item and arrive 10 minutes before the food is to be served with their uncooked food contribution (picture a guest arriving with a frozen turkey at 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving); and multiply these little issues by 6 or 7 families.

The hostess should do as I have done and stop hosting any holiday meals.... maybe even go on a cruise over Thanksgiving in the future. She will be happier for it.

THIS!:cheer2:::yes::::yes::::yes::

So the 9 pounds of sweet potatoes I peeled, cut and cooked ain't good enough for ya? :) Thanksgiving for 40 tomorrow!

:confused3 I think that was my favorite part! I have two oblong casserole dishes... one is bigger than the other. Which one is the regulation size??

I don't know, but you had better figure it out, or she is going to be one ticked off hostess. lol

I remeber seeing that letter last year. While I think it's good to have some plans, like knowing one person is in charge of potatoes, and another dessert, that is just so strict!

I don't know why, but the line about "Lisa, now that you are married, you have to contribute at an adult level...." cracks me up!

There was a time in my life when I might have tried to pull something like this.:rolleyes1 I was pretty anal about Thanksgiving. Then I hosted my family in my new house. I made the turkey, stuffing and gravy and they were all bringing sides. One of my sisters showed up with hot dogs and chips.:confused: Meh. I got over it. Now I'm about 20 years older & wiser. I've relaxed a bit finally. That's what about $8000 worth of therapy will buy you.:laughing:

Mommie Dearest on steroids?:confused3 (assuming the mom is the hostess)
Wow. I wonder what she's like when not hosting a dinner. I agree with pp, maybe she shouldn't be hosting anymore.:confused3 If I was on that list, Id be going out for Thankgiving dinner. I would be to stressed out that I didn't do it to her specifications. I wanna enjoy my thanksgiving dinner, not shaking in my boots waiting for poop to hit the fan cause I brought the wrong serving spoon:rotfl::eek:

Im sorry but thats funny and rude at the same time:lmao: ;)

Can you imagine what she was like as a bride??? :scared1:

We usually send an email (we as in which ever family member is hosting) saying something about mom/dad bring potatoes, brother #1 bring wine, sister #1 bring a salad, etc. but that is a specific as it gets.

I would bring the complete opposite of what she asked for.
