The Sweet Meet - Dis'ers do Hershey

We visited HP for the first time last year and I remember the food being on the high side.

Can you give a gauge on the pricing for food inside the park?

I saw on their website they have a $12.75 Meal Ticket . That is good for an entree, side and souvenir 32 oz. cup/drink (refills 99 cents).

They also offer Duo Meal Deals:
Regular: $28.95 (ages 9+) Enjoy two combo meals, two snacks and a refillable souvenir cup.
Junior: $12.95 (ages 3 - 8) Enjoy two combo meals with a small soda and one snack (souvenir cup not included).

Are these good deal or any discount on the regular prices???? :confused3

:thumbsup2 The meal tickets can be purchased at the Hospitality Services located inside the park.

Bill was NOT joking when he said we are doing this trip on a shoestring budget. So, I have been looking for coupons and discounts where ever we can get them for this trip. We got a great AAA rate on the hotel in Harrisburg and I found an even cheaper rate for the drive down and back. It has actually been kind of fun trying to stay within a budget. I like a challenge! ;)

Hi Jennifer,

I was sort wondering if you were driving straight through... that would be tough... That is one serious road trip. Can't wait to meet the group... Have a SAFE Trip.:woohoo:

See you there,

Louise & Mark

Anyone have a clue on how must in coins I will need for the toll roads?

Merge onto I-76 E/PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE via EXIT 58 toward HARRISBURG/EXITS 91-359 (Portions toll).

Just trying to figure out how many rolls of quarters I'll need.

Thanks,

Mark

If you google PA Turnpike you will get a link their toll calculator.

The exits you quote don't jive, but as an example Pittsburgh (exit 6 mile 57) to Harrisburg (exit 19 mile 247) is $14.20.

Thanks for the information... was using Mapquest... Looks like 3 rolls plus maybe a few dollar bills to stretch the quarters out.

I called Fuddruckers and spoke w/a manager. I gave my name and cell phone number and told her our group was coming next Friday. She said it would be no problem, and thanked me for letting them know. So, we're good to go!

Andrea, that place mentioned with a/c and games sounds like a good place to catch up for lunch. What do you think?

Definatley! I don't know about your family, but we aren't big roller coaster riders, and Isabella is short, so the rides she can go on is limited. Are you going to hit the water park area? What do you think your plan of attack is going to be?

No quarters needed. You get a ticket when you enter and pay when you exit. All of the booths that are not ez pass have someone there to give you change.

We love coasters, but Emma is just barely tall enough for some, the boys are too young. We'll try to get on the big ones first. After lunch we plan on going to the water park area. After that, some folks will be headed home and we'll go do more rides.

We plan on being there before opening and staying until close.

Note to self: pack kids pjs.

Thanks for this information... That will make it easier:thumbsup2

OK, I guess our plan of attack will be rides in the early morning - lunch, then waterpark. We will have to go back to the hotel to get ready for the concert (that is if we are still going) Kimberly has decided she is too old for anything Jonas Brothers....this coming from a 10 yo who just last month wanted to go to the concert, but, I digress. After the concert, hopefully back to the hotel for some fun.

We were at Hershey Park last week. The "Reese's Xtreme Cup Challenge" ride had a staffer outside insisting that all bags had to be left outside. She singled me out, saying it was a "new restriction." So, I stuffed my pockets and left my little camera bag outside with just a few maps and sunblock in it. As I stood on line, I was really ticked off: at least a dozen people had backpacks, changing bags, and shoulder bags with them. They went through the queue and onto the ride with no problem. I'm the only dope who complied with the new rule. I complained to the attendant outside and he claimed that the ride operators were supposed to send people off the queue if they had bags, but that's not what happened.

It's a laser-tag shooting game, not as cool as Buzz Lightyear. There's a spot in front of your feet in the car where you can put a small bag. If you can put the strap across your body and close the bag, it would be fine.

There's one section of the park - over by the mining train rollercoaster - that reeks of vomit so plan to run through there fast.

We ate at Nathans and the Texas BBQ place. Nathans was good, but no Coke, Pepsi only. (Throughout the park) The BBQ place was mediocre.

Some guy rode the bumper cars BACKWARDS the entire time, which I only noticed at the very end. I just broke out laughing when I realized what he had done. He said no one tried to bump into him and he avoided the tieups. Very clever and amusing.

If you want to drive the cars (EZPASS Lanes Available, lol), you have to have two or more people for the classic cars. They very nicely walked me over to the front of the sports car line when they found out I was a single rider.

The waterpark closes before the amusement park. The lockers and changing rooms by the wave pools close earlier than the lockers near the waterpark entrance, so if you're planning to use the lockers until park closing, there could be a problem.

The big waterpark attraction was the climbing structure with two giant dump buckets. My kids were in there for an hour. We bought sundaes at the Turkey Hill stand next to that attraction and shared them because they were so big.

The big "beach" was closed and the smaller one was really for little kids, so we didn't try that. They have this cool boogie-boarding water ride where the water flows uphill super-fast to keep you "surfing." DH said it was fun - I didn't like the thought of wiping out and hitting the wall at the top. He said it didn't hurt.

Everyone loved the Vortex water tube ride but it's speed depends on the double-tube riders' weight. Two small kids move at a good clip, but put a little kid and a big adult on the ride and it's an entirely different experience. Two big adults will fly down this thing.

Enjoy your meetup!

A few other things I remembered to pass along (sorry for all the posts).

If you are planning to drink a good amount, the refillable mugs are a good idea. They are about $8 the first time, but $0.99 everytime after that. Also, if you are going more than one day, you can bring them back into the park.

HP also does not allow outside food or drinks in. Sorry, no hyrdo flasks. My wife tells me they do allow one sealed water bottle a person, but we think they mean a bottle of aquiline or the like.

Zoo America is very nice. We go through almost everytime we go. It is only open till dusk (about 8 pm). If you want to see more activity, we found going about 7 is nice.

If you see me in the park and need food or drink, season passes give 15% off (including refillable mugs). I would mind going through the line to get the discount. Not offering to pay though :).

I noticed that several folks mentioned having smaller children that can't ride the coasters. I saw on Hersheypark's website that they do have a "Kiddie Swap" available. Here is the info from the website:

KIDDIE SWAP
If you have smaller children in your family and would like to ride height-restricted rides, let the ride attendant know you would like to take advantage of Kiddie Swap. The Kiddie Swap program allows for two parents to take turns riding while the other parent stands to the side with a child who is too short to ride, or when one parent has two children who need to be accompanied by an adult on a ride, the children may swap places.

:flower3: Thank you to whomever mentioned the Fuddruckers coupon. I signed up for their "Fudd's Club". I got the $7.00 meal coupon. Every bit helps!

Click HERE for the Fuddruckers website and join the Fudd's Club. They email you a coupon within 24 hours of your submission. :thumbsup2

There is a nice food court (AIR CONDITIONED) back on the far right side of the park, near the zoo and Kissing Tower. Lots of space and tables and the only place in the park to get a cold beer. I think the area is called Minetown.

Have fun!

:scared1::eek::scared1:

If I get lost, you know where to find me.
