The stress

My daughter tested positive at the port this morning so we were denied boarding. She is asymptomatic and we were in disbelief. She was negative when we tested her on the 23rd. We did an in home test when we got home and it was positive again. We live in Orlando so the port isn’t far from home. My kids were devastated but it would of been way worse if we had flown in. We are rescheduling for April.

That stinks. Sorry to hear it! Did you get a sense for how many parties were being denied today?

So sorry for you and your family. Good she has no symptoms and you live close. Our neighbors who are close friends spent Christmas Eve and morning driving home across country in a one way rental because their 9 year old (double vaxxed pfizer plus two weeks) got Covid with symptoms a few days into their Christmas week vacation. Another friend (tripe vaxxed moderna) spent Christmas week in the ER alone, while her husband stayed home with their small kids. The scary part is she tested negative at home after her symptoms began and then trsted positive via rapid PCR when admitted to the ER, so a good reminder for those relying on Binax Now those at home tests have a risk of false negatives and you should probably test more than once to be sure. I really feel for those who have cruises in the coming weeks… it is a very difficult time to travel right now.

This is a really useful reminder. Several of my friends who now have COVID tested negative at the initial onset of symptoms, then tested positive a day or two later. The BinaxNOW tests were designed for the same person to take the test twice, with at least 36 hours between the tests (which is why those specific tests come with two in each box).

My stress has increased due to the new testing requirements in the Bahamas. Starting in early January, they will require a negative PCR test 72 hours before visiting ports. For our cruise, Nassau is the last day, so now I am concerned that port visit may be cancelled. We already lost Key West and have a double dip, so I do not anticipate a 3rd day at CC.

What was the 12/20 story the op referred to?
This one:
My family of 3...husband, myself and 8 yr old son were set to board the Magic on Monday 12/20.....we tested with Binax antigen tests before leaving for the port and were all of course negative. Went through testing and when our reservation number popped up on the screen it had the message see Inspire Consult instead of saying proceed to check in. We were ushered away to a private room and told my completely asymptomatic, fully vaccinated and boosted husband tested positive. We then sat in a quarantine room for over 4 hrs while they located our luggage. Disney provided transportation for each positive party to wherever they needed to go so we were told to make our plans and let them know where we needed to get to. We were put in a van and given a ride back to FLL airport to pick up a rental car. It was one of the most shocking and disappointing moments of my life. The only advice I can give to anyone preparing to cruise is to manage expectations and to have some kind of a rough back up plan if something is to happen. The gentleman who was coordinating getting all the positive people out of the port was completely frazzled and overwhelmed with the number of parties that could not sail. It took hours to get everyone on their way and they actually had to call in back up transport vehicles b/c the ten or so vans lined up outside could not handle all the people who were leaving the port! If you have any questions about our experience I would be happy to answer them.

This one:
Wow. The part that really hit me was being stuck in a room for over 4 hours while DCL retrieved their luggage. Talk about heaping misery upon misery. For my cruise next month I'm definitely traveling with just a carry-on roller bag, and will take it with me onto the ship. I'm not going to let the porters take it this time. I'll probably also make a rental car reservation just in case, so that I know a car will be there for me if I have to be taken back to MCO. I'll cancel it if I test negative at the port.

I'd love to have our cruise turned into a CC double dip!

That sucks. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

Question:
I have a five day DCL vacation with a stop in the Bahamas.
So are you saying that DCL Officials will be testing people while on board??

What about if you wants to just stay inside your cabin and not step foot off the ship??????

I don't know as Disney has not made any announcement about this new Bahamas policy.

Q-
So are you saying that the new Bahamas rule effective December 27 2021 is anyone if any age must be Covid tested and come back negative if they want to get off their ship snd visit the port of day Nassau??
Q-
What about if you … and adult … chooses to remain onboard ?
Do you still have to be Covid tested and come back negative???

how long will this new rule remain in effect ??

Oh I was referring to cruises 5n+ in general, not bahamas

I sort of wonder when the cost outweighs the benefit to the cruise lines... all the testing, not being able to go to ports, unhappy guests, refunds, etc. Obviously they're spending money any way you roll it but I'm wondering where the threshold for "we only have 800 people scheduled to cruise and about 10% of guests are testing positive before or at port"... where is that line to cancel the cruise entirely? I'm not saying it's likely, I'm just curious.
Even with 800 on board they are covering some fix costs. Cruises can have a very low break-even point to cover operating costs. I can also assume DCL has a lower B/E point as they aren’t charging 299$ but more. On the other hand they only make us much from drink packages and gambling. Plus they can’t just park a ship. And the way they are forced to sail.

So Disney will have to test on board even for just CC correct? We were thinking about booking a double dip but depending on how fast they get the test results back you would maybe need to test twice for a 5 day cruise.

1. That's how I read it
2. Well, you have to test negative to even board the ship.

The concern I have is that it might affect the last day of the cruise. Since the test must be within 72 hours, the test we take to board the ship no longer meets Bahamian testing requirements.

I guess it will remain in effect as long as the Bahamian government sees a need for it.

The test everyone does before boarding met the previous Bahamian requirements. Since they now require a 72 hour test, this might require an additional test during the cruise.
