The stress

1. That's how I read it
2. Well, you have to test negative to even board the ship.

The concern I have is that it might affect the last day of the cruise. Since the test must be within 72 hours, the test we take to board the ship no longer meets Bahamian testing requirements.

I guess it will remain in effect as long as the Bahamian government sees a need for it.
Well now ……

isn’t this a game changer imo.

so one can test negative and board the ship ok but day on am of day 2 or 3 of a 5 day cruise , you could test positive in your quest to either go on a shore excursion at Nassau or even CC…..

you then get the unpleasant experience of implementing your DCL back up plan . …

yet I’ve pitched initially to my TA a notion for “shouldn’t we have one in place just in case snd initially all I’m hearing is crickets ….

-WTW-
Whereas I agree with the Bahamian government on this it’s going to lead to a lot of people rethinking cruising …. Imo even after all this omicron stuff peaks ….
Stay safe everyone

At PC waiting on results right now. All of our hearts are racing.

Just FYI if you are driving, you can keep your luggage if you want but you have to stop at the curb (luggage drop) to be given a blue tag that means you are cleared to enter the queue for testing in the garage. We arrived 30 minutes early exactly and were almost denied. The guy was really nice and said that since the garage wasn't full (it opens at 10:45 BTW) he'd let us slide. If you park on the 3rd floor (after testing), no need to worry the elevator since the walkover bridge is on 3.

DH just booked a rental car in case we have to travel home due to positive test at port.
I did, too. I feel bad, in a way, because if enough people hedge their bets this way, the rental car agencies are going to get stuck with a ton of last-minute cancellations, and that will also affect apparent availability for other customers. But what else can you do? Far from home & testing positive, you're going to need some form of transportation, and last-minute car rental availability can be dicey and overpriced right now.

UPDATE: we ended up cancelling on 2/3 of our family that we just didn’t trust. We kept it small and wore masks the whole time around anyone. Then flying we wore n95 and didn’t eat on the plane and only stayed at hotel all night last night.

Im happy to report that after an unbearable 32 minutes at the port after testing we got the clear to sail!! But until you go through it it’s a lot of stress. Can’t get happy until you know you are clear!

Previously cruise line passengers were under different testing rules. Unless the testing rule is under cruise line pax, the testing rule may not apply.
That’s what I recalled but unable to look it up this morning.

Q-
I just called DCL and they are unaware of this rule change -

so I have to ask :

on a 5 night Bahamas DCL cruise , would an adult have to be tested for Covid and come back negative in order to get off the ship at Nassau ??
Be it now or in January 2022 on ??

can the adult just stay on the ship … thus avoiding having to be tested ???
This is sssooooooo confusing /
DCL will set the rules onboard. Of course you are welcome to bring your own test if you do choose. But until DCL makes an announcement or starts testing onboard, nobody can answer your question. However, it seems the new Bahamian rule does not pertain to cruise passengers, only those arriving by air.

But what else can you do? Far from home & testing positive, you're going to need some form of transportation, and last-minute car rental availability can be dicey and overpriced right now.
We’ll… if the car rental agencies get stuck with enough cancellations, they may make it harder to cancel last-minute without penalty, and/or jack up those prices even higher. So it does have impact.

I'm home now, and here is what the Bahamas is saying:
https://www.bahamas.com/travelupdates
Testing requirements apply to the travel visa program, which is entry to the Bahamas via air. It does not apply to passengers on cruise ships not originating in the Bahamas. To disembark in the Bahamas, all pax 12+ must be vaccinated and follow local rules, including on private islands.

Which is why I said I wasn't happy about doing it. But you've got to be prepared for the worst possibly happening right now.

so a good reminder for those relying on Binax Now those at home tests have a risk of false negatives and you should probably test more than once to be sure. I really feel for those who have cruises in the coming weeks… it is a very difficult time to travel right now.

Yes, this! The reason those BinaxNOW and others come in a two-pack is because the intent is to test twice a couple days apart to to confirm a negative result is truly a negative and not a false negative. Those tests are only about 70-80% effective at picking up infection (that's the trade-off you get for getting a result at home in 15-30 minutes, unfortunately).

Well....this could be the straw that broke the camels back. I just took my son in to the Doctors for a covid test. He has had a hive like rash since last Wednesday. We thought it was a reaction to a new shirt that he wore before I was able to get it in the laundry. But on Thursday he started sneezing. Friday he had a slight cough. Saturday he was lethargic, no appetite, and definitely sick. Thankfully my over worried brain assumed the worst and we have been fairly isolated since the rash broke out. When we haven't been able to isolate, we have been masked up.

Apparently Omicron has a different set of symptoms and it does not necessarily include a high fever or loss of taste/smell. From the research I have been doing, a rash has been reported in 15% of cases and there is also something called Covid Fingers/Toes where the small capillaries in the fingers and toes swell up. Fortunately, the research is also saying that Omicron may have different symptoms, but it is a lighter strain. The medical community doesn't appear to be sharing this info and most are still focused on the high fever, loss of taste smell symptoms.

My son's Doctor is fantastic and even though he hasn't seen a case of Covid with a rash, he said it is definitely not a bacterial thing and he ordered the Covid test just to check. We will have the results tomorrow.

It's time to have a serious discussion about canceling our 1/22/22 cruise and maybe just find a nice family resort where we can all just recover from the craziness.

I’ve had covid three times in the last two years and each time the symptoms were completely different. First time was unrelenting fever, cough/shortness of breath and brain fog. Second time was fever, sore throat, and gastrointestinal symptoms. Third time was a runny nose and covid toes. It’s a disease that has so many permutations. Basically I’ve learned just to get a test when I don’t feel good.
