The star wars spoiler thread

Estimated 31.5 Million which is a huge number for a Monday over 10 days after release.

Don't see her as a sister...but it's possible.

I think the obsession with Han Solo babies is kinda an 80's fanboy thing...

They gave you one...other people have kids too

Yes, but at the time of Return of the Jedi, Leia was pretty much the only other human woman in the galaxy, at least that's how it seemed from the movies. ;)

Really good number. My local cinema was full on Sunday when I saw it again. Seems alot of older people were seeing it now it's been out a while. Drove past the cinema again tonight and again, totally full so the demand doesn't seem to be dropping and i doubt it will until the kids go back to school which I think is about the 4th here in the UK

Yes but Anakin was also great with machines and was an incredible pilot- so she could easily be Luke's kid and come by it through her grandfather. According to an interview done with a member of the crew on Star Wars Underground, Ren was conceived shortly after Jedi, putting him around 30.

Is there anywhere in official cannon that states exactly how long it has been since Jedi? Or are we all just going with 30 years because all the media and marketing state that it's been about 30 years? My DH came up with a wild theory that I haven't seen anywhere yet but makes sense if you keep following the plot that is being "rebooted." If Ren=new Vader and Rey=new Luke, then Rey should be Kylo Ren's daughter. Are they really too close in age for this possibility? Ren seems so immature because of his emotional issues, and Rey seems older because she's so capable of everything. But, is it possible that he's more like 35 and Rey be as young as 15-16 and she was born when he was around 19-20?

JJ Abrams specifically said TFA takes place 30 years after Jedi. Or maybe 34 years. Either way, you're looking at 30-34 years.

I don't think your husband's theory is that farfetched.... I actually like it.

Actually it's more like an Obsession with Han period. But that's a whole different subject. (First Crush)

I would like Rey to be revealed as Just a Jedi. But I can see her as Luke's daughter or Obi-wan's Grandaughter. The Fields open really.

NEW YORK (The Street) -- Walt Disney Co. stock is increasing 0.06% to $107.31 in afternoon trading on Tuesday after the company reportedly negotiated a 60% share of ticket sales from its latest film "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," surpassing the average of a 55% share that studios receive, according to CNBC.

Theaters and studios negotiate the sales split that could change over the course of a film's time in theaters, with studios getting a larger cut closer to the initial release.

The latest installment of "Star Wars," which has been breaking records since its release, is also required to be in theaters for at least four weeks, a week more than average, CNBC added.

I have now seen this movie 3 times: Thursday opening at 7 PM, Saturday Dec 26th and again on Sunday Dec 27th. Each time I went the theater had more people. And this is significant as the last time I saw it was in a very large IMAX theater, and it was packed. Without this having even debuted yet in China, it is safe to assume that it is definitely gunning for Avatar.

TV ads already starting here in Ireland for people to pre order on their digital movies on demand service (SKY BOX OFFICE)

I saw that too. Think that will be available anout the same time as the Dvd release and bluray in April. Sky TV won't be showing it on their TV broadcasts until about August or September

So that $31 million figure is significant because it means that TFA is still earning more money per day than Avatar was though the drop off is faster. When we see Tuesday's figures it could already hit $600 million domestic in which case it's assured second place behind only Avatar before the weekend. At which point it still have one more holiday weekend to come and a guaranteed 2 more weeks in theaters (and I'd be very surprised if it didn't run longer).

Another child of Han/Leia gives a brother/sister dynamic that you don't get if it's cousins battling it out. Anything is possible, though.

I have no theory as to who's kid Rey is.....but I bet her location is somehow caused/assisted by the ineptitude of Jar Jar Binks. It would be the ultimate inside joke for the fans. I'm certain, Rey's uncertain lineage is intentional.

I think international depends on two factors, how big it hits in China (could it do $100 million plus or not?) and whether the movie has legs beyond 4 weeks.

Without China you're looking at close to a 50/50 split in box office between domestic and international. Which means it can beat Avatar domestically and still only be at around $1.5 billion. I'd be surprised if it doesn't make it past $2 billion in which case it's gunning for Titanic, but Avatar would be tough to beat there, unless it runs through March...

historically Star Wars is about 45/55 domestic to international so maybe 900 million to 1.1 billion
i could be wrong it run for a while and beat avatar, that would be cool to see a movie cross 3 billion

I don't see this as a reboot at all. Yes, there are some similarities to Star Wars & TESB, but I believe that was done more to remind/reinforce that this is Star Wars and not Political Theatre anymore. And that is very import to all involved, to get away from complicated storylines and back to fast paced action.

The pacing and the acting in this movie is great, very easy to watch over and over again. Kylo Ren is a great character, very complex with his internal struggles and need to live up to his grandfather. I know everyone figured this was it for Han, but I thought that scene was great, and there was enough drama for there to be some doubt as to the outcome there.

Rey/Finn had a great dynamic between them, and Han was very good in this movie. I didn't really get much from Poe, but he's likely to be more involved going forward. I did really enjoy the stolen tie fighter scene and also the first scene with the falcon, great action.

The things that I was slightly disappointed in were pretty much only the small significance of Captain Phasma & the lack of new ships. I do think the focus on TIE's, X-Wings, Star Destroyers, & the Falcon were intentional though, again to put emphasis back on Star Wars and the originals. They didn't want to stray too much from what worked for this first one, for fear of being associated moreso on the prequels with all of their fancy ships and gadgets.

The only thing I wished for though, was that Starkiller Base was disabled and not destroyed. Would be interesting to see what would come of it with stored energy it couldn't use. Would it be abandoned by the First Order? Try to fix it? Fall into the hands of another set of baddies?

As for Rey, probably Luke's daughter but it was best to leave open ended... builds the anticipation for VIII.

I went opening Friday and yesterday, both at the same time frame. last night was actually more crowded, which surprised me. When I went the opening Friday it was not sold out (close but not quite sold out). When I went yesterday it was sold out before I arrived (which was close to an hour before the show was to start). I get that there was less shows yesterday for Star Wars than that opening Friday, but it still surprised me to see it more crowded on Day 10 on a Tuesday than on day 1 on a Friday. To add to it, even though it was a 3:00 showing, there was still more older people there than kids that are out of school (seemed a great mix of men and women too...would be real interested to know if the percentage of men to woman has gotten more even than it was the first day when it was 58-42).

I think this movie will have legs. I am surprised how many people have seen it. I went with two people yesterday who had never seen any of the other star wars (both woman) and both loved it. I didn't know neither had never seen a star wars movie before last night. Certainly my small sample size isn't an indication of the whole population, but it sure seems like it is pointing to this movie having a marathon ahead of it. I don't think typical projection analysis will work on this movie, it is creating a new curve for movies to want to follow (but then again I didn't follow the numbers that close when Avatar and Titantic came out as I am now).
