That was a funny line when he said it. But I've always found the guy disingenuous bashing the character for 20 years after...when he was trying to build somekind of Oscar resume.

And then he did six days, seven nights and Air Force one...
...not to mention the trail of stinkers since.

Because his accountant told him to. Just come out and say you hate Lucas...instead of bagging your own movies.

Exactly! If he had Marlon Brando or Lawrence Olivier's career (or even Leonardo DiCaprio) I might understand it, but all of his "dramas" have been so boring. He's an action hero, and he needs to get over the fact.

...and I think that Harrison Ford might be the best actor working. He always seems so charismatic in a film, but when I see him doing an interview he's the most boring guy in the world.

Ok, my take on Rey. I think that she was one of Luke's students. I think he was who she was crying for in her flashback, and who she was waiting for. She could possibly be Luke's daughter as well. Hence the lightsaber calling to her.

I was expecting a lot more from Phasma given all the press about the character. The movie did feel like it was trying to cram a lot in at times though and this may have been just one thing too many.

I didn't notice Ewan checking in anywhere. Possibly they scripted a "use the force" moment with one of the new kids but on second thought cut it out because it's such a hackneyed cliché? And it would lead to expectations of seeing the ghost family which is just too much for any galaxy, any time.

I think Ford looked great, acted great, and probably helped polish up some of his scenes in a way that improved the movie. Dude is worth it. Not that there was any weaknesses in this cast, except Carrie Fisher got shortchanged with insufficient camera time and inadequate lines in what looked like a fairly stiff, not well blocked out scene.

I believe McGregor did a tiny bit where he says Rey's name when she touches the lightsaber (you don't see him, just the voice). Make of that what you will.

This was the best Ford has looked in at least a decade. Which isn't saying very much. He fell back into the role pretty well but his performance in his final scene wasn't that strong really. The new actors are head and shoulders above the original cast when it comes to acting.

What a pity. Gwendolyn Christie comes off as genuinely charming in her interviews.

It could be we will end up with a Boba Fett situation where the character really doesn't do anything of significance in the movies themselves, but fans take to the look and idea of her anyway.

But I'm hoping that she may have a larger role in the second part.

People are debating between Luke's daughter and Hans. They did that on purpose to keep the conversation going. People will argue till they are blue in the face. I have read some great arguments for both, and there is a reason for that. They wanted to start that argument.

I am more convinced that shes Luke's daughter not Han's. I feel like with Han's death her being his daughter would've come out in this movie rather than later. Han also doesn't have the force so it's possible she could still be Leia's daughter but not Han's. My money is on Luke tho.

I think you have to look to the soundtrack for the answer. John Williams may have given us some operatic foreshadowing.

Williams introduces the young, resourceful scavenger with delicate and vulnerable instruments (flute, piano and the pixieish chimes of a celeste), which are juxtaposed against the enormity of her galactic backdrop. The chords in Rey’s theme are purposefully related to Williams’ well-known Force theme. (He interweaves the two during the end credits.)

And the Celesta is one of the last things you hear in the end credits playing "The Force" theme.

All the signs point to Rey being Luke's daughter. Among other items are Han's and Leia's reactions. They both have reactions that are best described as "awareness"... they recognize who Rey is. They know who Rey is. But its not one of protection or a parent's reaction. Its one of "we know you" and then the first reaction is to quickly get her to Luke.

But then... the next questions are: Who is the mother? Did she die when the Knights of Ren attacked? Who moved Rey to Jakku?

That was an institutional rule... Vader wiped out the institution. Luke would've recreated whatever rules he wanted.

Besides, that was one of Lucas' stupid Prequel rules. Lets see... lets make the Force all about midichlorians. Then lets state it runs strong in a family lineage. Then lets make a rule that the strongest force users (Jedi) can't love, thus don't have offspring, thus guaranteeing the weakening of the "force" gene pool. Yeah... that makes sense.

Anakin had kids and was a Jedi. Clearly being a Jedi doesn't make you sterile or stop you from procreating if you so choose. They Jedi code is similar to that of the nights watch. It is an oath of sorts but people have been known to break the oath. Also we can assume the Jedi Code doesn't really exist any more since that was from before the fall of the Jedi.

I saw it Saturday night, I'm a one and done guy for movies generally. I don't go back to the theater to see a movie again.

That being said, I'm going back to watch this one again. My father wants to go see it, he asked me to go with him, I jumped at the change to watch it a second time.

This to me had the feel of the original trilogy, not the prequel crap.

Jedi can reproduce, but they cannot have attachments, which might explain why Rey was left on Jakku.

Rey's mom = Mara Jade (now that the EU is not canon). (Luke and Mara's child in the EU was Ben Skywalker)
