The Spray Bottle has been filled. . .

Yeah good luck with that! Cheeto is driving me crazy this year with the tree - he's developed a new love for water so the spray bottle isn't working...and neither is me yelling into the tree "if you don't get out now I'm going to take you outside, put you in a real tree and LEAVE YOU THERE!"

The only thing I've found this year is sticking the hand held dyson into the tree and turning it on very close behind him - the only problem is this makes him jump out of the tree, and then all the pine needles around him fall off :sad2:

Something about those orange kitties - my orange kitty (Simba) has always loved the Christmas tree - got him 2 years ago for Christmas so this is his 3rd year with the tree. The first year it was annoying but cute since he was so tiny. Last year he tackled 2 of my trees - luckily one was just being set up so I knew no breakable ornaments on that one but my 4 foot white tree with pink ornaments was completely tackled and on the floor with broken ornaments everywhere :scared1:. This year I only set up 1 tree and he has decided to climb inside and chill out. He passed that bad behavior on to my other kitty who is 8 months old and I cought him chilling inside the tree too.

We are leaving on vacation on Christmas eve so I guess the tree is going to have to come down before I leave. I would just be  if my ornaments got broke - especially my Disney glass balls that I have gotten every year since 2004.

Hopefully everyone's kitties will get it out of their system and leave the trees alone. I have never had this problem before Simba and in those year I have only had artificial trees so I don't know what they would do with a real tree.

Our cat was trying to climb the inner branches of our tree and somehow got tangled in the christmas lights. I have NEVER heard my cat make such noises in my life. It took several minutes to get him untangled, but I hope that he has learned his lesson and will stay away from the tree!!

Fortunately our trees haven't been knocked over and don't seem to be in danger of that. And I only put ornaments that are not delicate on it. Nothing glass or that would unfixable Was a bummer to not be able to put half my ornaments on my Disney tree but I got creative.

My delicate White House ornament collection is hung in the Garland around the doorway and actually looks really nice there. My Disney ornaments are hung on a plate rack that has mug pegs in the Dining room with my Disney snowglobes on the plate rack

The only thing that I am tempting fate with is my porcelain nativity on my mantle but it is an inexpensive one with no sentimental value. And I have some Christmas village houses on the fireplace Hearth but they aren't worth much and probably won't break if knocked over. I have a Lenox Nativity but it is staying packed away as is some of the more valuable breakable ornaments. As long as we don't put any chairs or other intermediate launching areas near the fireplace it should be okay.

Do you have electric lights when you are spraying them? And does the tree inners have any metal? I'm asking because I just read recently that you shouldn't spray cats in the Christmas tree if so.

We foster kittens, and last year we had to undecorate. They were thrilled with the new toy we bought them and put up (the tree). It was a wreck.

Yikes...as long as he doesn't try to hang himself on the ligh cords. Like I said, last year we had a bare tree. It was pitiful.

24 hours of having our tree up and not much interest yet! We have 4 year old lazy cat and a 8 month old "terror" kitty! LOL keeping our fingers crossed! Someone mentioned to me to spray a mixture of vinegar and water around the tree because they hate the smell of vinegar and after a bit we won't be able to smell it. Haven't tried it yet though!

We have a new kitten that puts everything in her mouth. To keep her away from certain items, I spray a little perfume. This worked for my other cats, too. They hate the smell and stay away.:rolleyes1

We have a fake tree, but we keep the bottom two rows of branches free of ornaments and put on small Christmas-themed cat toys. That way, if they mess with them, they are cat toys anyway. Our tree is not stable enough for climbing - they knocked it over once, and that was the end of that!

We have 3 new cats this year - one a little over a year old and two 8 month olds. I was verrry nervous about putting up the tree as the younger two can be holy terrors. Tree has been up since Saturday and so far so good! The two little ones are sleeping under it right now. I hope tomorrow when I go back to work they don't get bored and get into it.

My cat doesn't climb the tree anymore. Sometimes she'll swat at the ornaments low on the tree. If I catch her I just move it.

Try sprinkling a little cayenne pepper around the base of the tree. I've haven't tried it inside, but I do use it outside. Our neighbor's outside cat likes to jump into the windowsill and my cat on the inside sees him and they fight through the glass. Someone on these boards told me to sprinkle cayenne pepper under the windows outside. I haven't seen him in the window sills since.

This is her a few days ago.

Not to go OT, but I've heard (I think on this board, LOL) that you shouldn't use things like cayenne pepper as a deterrent, because if the cats get it in their eyes, they can literally scratch their eyes out trying to get rid of the burn. Don't know if it's true or not, but it's not really a risk I'm willing to take.

(BTW, your kitty is adorable! She looks a lot like my Lucy.)

Well, you know what they say about Paybacks. . .

Clueless cat has been spritzed a few times this afternoon. I just found a piece of the chicken I am thawing for dinner in the middle of the kitchen floor and her running away. :headache:

The other one is sitting on the table looking :rolleyes1.

:sad2:

That's why I don't thaw meats on the counter or in the sink anymore. I put them in the cold oven. That way the cats can't get to them!
