Just wondering if anyone out there like me does not like those things. Why would they come up with something so frustrating? If you don't get it right it puts you back in the doorway. ARG!! Maybe it's just me, but I refuse to ride the ride if it has one and leave dejected. So jw how ppl feel about those things.

They're fine with me if I can reboard from the door or get back on the ride from the bump off spot.

But if a quest is involved, I could understand getting trapped. You snooze, you looze! :badpc:

it also helps if the ride creator puts a start close to the door
and then you do not have to go all the way back to the start!

I keep saying, those doors are evil.... :stir:

Well, I already told Ranch he was evil after I finished riding. :stir:
I just don't do complicated very well. I'm not a fan of the doors or
the switches. I've been "stuck" trying to find my way out of a few
rides tonight.

"Jane, stop this crazy thing!" came to mind. :teeth:

I hate them. I'm not putting up with them. There are plenty of rooms that doesn't have them.

Sorry about mine then. ;) I actually hate them too, just though I could do something interesting with ONE. After some people had problems with mine I moved the tron teleporter to the same room so it's a little quicker.

Only time they really bother me is if they are very close to the starting spot of a second room where the room takes too long to load. In any other room I have just gotten used to opening the door sometimes before I get on the ride or at least well in advance. Though if you are looking for a ride without doors I thought of the people who did not like them in advance and I did not include them in my ride at this time. :) Look for Space Race Melp over the weekend ;) (sorry for the shameless plug lol)

I know how to work them but find it not easy. So I avoided putting them in my rooms. I wanted people to have a nice visual ride able to look at the detail and not have to worry about clicking at the right time .

They are great for a game or if used on a switch track. But a little hard if you have a slow computer.

I have one door in one of my rooms, just one little door. I don't see a problem with it though; because if you don't open it before getting there, I set up ride pieces that put you right back on the ride in front of the door. It takes a lot of practice to memorize what symbols show up on the top in what order, but it is worth it once you can go through seventy rooms without falling off of because of one door.

I used one because timing is a element in my theme. I also put a start next to it so that if you miss you just fall down onto another track.

The doors aren't that hard to work. First, they stay open for a long time. Usually, you can start working on the door as soon as you see one in the room. It will probably stay open until you get there. Yavn originally said you would have to be close to the doors and switches to work them. Either the area they work in has been greatly expanded or that requirement has been dropped entirely.

Second, there are four symbols so when you see the matching symbol just count 1.. 2.. 3.. 4(click click).

Third, I have to double click to open it. My advice.. Click soon and click fast.

If you need a place to practice you can come to my ride. It's only one room and the track loops so you can ride continuously until you get it. Don't be a door hater! They can be neat if they're used right. Embrace life's little challenges! :thumbsup2

What I hate is when my kid distracts me or something and I look up and I'm back in the doorway. They seem to move too quickly too, most of the time the picture has changed by the time I get to my second click. A couple of times I've gotten halfway across the room before I get the darn thing open.

These are the reasons I didn't include them on my ride. I feel bad for the staff that has to put up with those things all weekend, though hopefully they know some trick that I have yet to figure out, I figured I'd give them a break.

I could see them working well in a game room or race type of thing... but they are annoying in some rides- I think it is important to make sure they are placed in clear areas and like someone said- far enough at the end to allow time for the room to load before you get to them.

I do have a door in the second room of my ride- (I had it so I decided to use it...) but I also put in a switch track before it- the default route takes you right on out without a door- or you can click the switch track and try to go through the door- I also placed start pieces at the door to that room for those who wanted to try the door too...

Last night I took my daughter (9yo) through many of the Dis rides- and we got to one that I thought was really neat with a looping track in one room where you have to click on switches to find the right teleporter out of the room to get through the ride. My daughter left her computer in tears- she couldn't do the track switches- but I learned you can get into a room and change the track switches and they stay changed while you are in the room-

I think the doors and switch track do make for interesting rides- but agree that for some of our younger players and for those with slower computers who don't load rooms quickly enough- they are just an evil torture device...

*Nods in agreement*

I don't mind them if they are placed far enough into the room so I can see them and try to activate them after the room finally loads for me.

I'm one of the "ancient" people and I have a fast computer and internet, and I still hate them. Maybe because I'm easily distracted. hehe

It was a challenge but I did make it out of your room alive and into the
final room. Whew. But like I said, a few rides did that to me. :teeth:

Let me just pencil you in on my "evil ride overlord" list. :stir:

When I used to write software for a living, many times we engineers added "neat" ideas to our products only to discover that our customers didn't use them because they didn't need the "neat" idea or worse, they found the "neat" idea got in the way of them getting their jobs done.

That's how I feel about the doors and switches. They are a "neat" idea. Very impressive to look at, no doubt fun to create but for the most part they aren't very practical. I love the look of the doors. I think the switches offer a great new option in the game. But for rooms, rides, games that need to be efficient, they just get in the way. That said, I almost used a door in my first room because I needed to slow down my ride a bit. I ended up replacing a lot of straight track with start pieces instead.

Krazy TY so much, your post has made me see the light. I will not hate and WILL get "thru" this obstacle. WOOT!! I knew you Dis ppl could help me see clear. God Bless the Dis and all who use it. :cool1:

I love them. I also think it is important to make sure they are placed to allow time for the room to load and for riders to change switch or open the door before they get to them.
