The space mtn door changer thingy's

I personally dont like them because i cant enjoy the room, instead i have to watch out if there is 1 of these and try to click it and get it right, by the time all this is over im pretty much almost leaving the room, so i didn't get a chance to enjoy the room, so if i had to rate it between a 1-10 i would rate it a 3

oh also i dont know if this hasn't been mentioned but the figures that are in the top of the door are some figures found in the fireworks game

It was a challenge but I did make it out of your room alive and into the
final room. Whew. But like I said, a few rides did that to me. :teeth:

Let me just pencil you in on my "evil ride overlord" list. :stir:

Heh heh...I too discovered an evil door in your room today, while as another Daze... took me a bit to get it, but I did get it! Woot! :cheer2:

At least if you got into my last room you could flip the switch and keep riding. :rotfl2: Did anyone else notice the Mickey/room busy thingies went wacko this afternoon? I had 3 red Mickeys with 2 occupants. Couldn't figure out why people kept dropping in. Checked out some other rooms with 3 red Mickeys and they were empty too.

okay, here's the thing with the doors:

I like them. I can use them. I can get through them on my first or second try every time.

BUT - if everyone in front of me cant work them - there lies the problem.

So - I did not use them. (Although, if the goal is to get a room listed on the Popular Room List, I guess that's the easy way!)

The cool thing I found yesterday about them is that they will stay open even if you go out of the room on the ride and come back in! Of coures it didnt stay open 'quite' long enough for me to not have to do it again. :lmao:

But, I'm like an earlier poster, I do like to enjoy looking at the room without having to worry about those things. That said...i put one in one of my rooms, but it is just part of the background theme. Just cool to look at.;)

LOL, VMK staff found that out in their space mountain ride-a-thon, they had to remove most of the locking doors from all the ride rooms, because most people couldn't work them. Ride rooms need to be easy to do, not hard and complicated. You need to design for children. You might want to remember that in real park rides the passengers doesn't have to do anything to make the track run but just sit there.

I have a new fast computer and cable connection and many times when I'm on a ride I'm half way through the room before the room even loads so I can see it. So with those doors in there, I don't stand a chance unless the there are a lot of track in the room, and only one door near the end of the track.

Some of the rooms I have seen have the doors in there for decoration but they are not actually connected to the track.

I placed two doors at the very end of my ride... why? Well I wanted to use every part of the new space mountain track items in my ride, and I figured two doors at the very end, in a room filled with track wouldnt be all that bad...

The counting system really works for me...

And for those who have trouble, I did too, until I bought me so doors and practiced. :teeth:

That is what I did with mine. I made a short, stand-alone section of track with the doors at each end, for people to "play" with if they want.

I hate those doors. It's so annoying to have to try to get through them. I usually have to try several times before I get through. Now, if I see doors on the rides, I'll just skip them. Not worth my time.

I like the doors to a certain extent. I like that they give a certain amount of interaction within the ride. It keeps the riders "awake" heh. I also like the doors to present a certain level of challenge...nothing is really THAT exciting unless there is some amount of challenge there.

I don't think the doors are a huge problem unless they are placed too close to the start of the ride. I would hate to just enter a room and have to try and open it. Placing the doors well ahead is easier and gives the riders a good head start at trying multiple times to open it.

I placed two of these doors in my ride (one on each track). I, personally, think it makes things more interesting, less boring, and keeps the members active and let's them participate. It makes the ordinary extraordinary. ;)

This is why I made my door thing optional on my ride...and I put a start piece next to it so it would put you right back on the track.

I don't like the doors at all - they are a cute idea but stressful to me. Yes, I have been able to get through them but only by constantly clicking on them. I agree completely that my main issue with them is that I can't even look at the room I am in, because all I am thinking about is trying to get through the doors! I want to see the design of the track and the use of colors and cool stuff - for example, someone had their blue teleporter doors flanked by two orange field goal posts - it looked so cool!

Just my 2 cents.

I've figured out the counting thing 1..2..3..4..click to work the doors. I believe they have their place in some rides, but not in others.

If you are building a leisurely-type ride where you want people to have time to see and appreciate your visual design, those doors can be a distraction; you might want to leave them out. By the time some folks figure out the doors, they have missed what you want them to see.

If you are building a more interactive type ride where the goal is to choose the right path (switches), or make it through a door in time or be bumped off, they can be very effective. I want to see somebody build a race game with lots of doors! Hmm...has any dis person done this yet?

I've ridden a lot of rides this past weekend that had only one or two doors that didn't detract from the ride theme. The trick is the doors had to be well placed, like near the end of the room's tracks. It was obvious the owners had thought it out well. I also rode a few rides, unfortunately, where I ended up leaving because the doors caused havoc and wrecked the rideability.

I set my ride up so that I have a switch right at the start... well, not RIGHT at the start... far enough away that you have time to click it. By default, if you do not click the switch, you will ride a ride with no doors. However, if you click the switch, the track has two doors per room (6 doors total). I figured I'd give people a choice if they want a challenge or not (but I did put start pieces before the doors). Of course, that initially led to a problem. The first several people that rode my ride went the doorless route, but when they came into the ending room, they were on the track with doors. They said that if they see a door, they start clicking. By clicking the doors on the other track, they were knocked off, and since there are no start pieces on the doorless track, they were forced to take the other path. I ended up hanging up a picture saying "If you don't click the switch, please don't click the doors." It worked for the most part, but some people still messed up.

Oh, and by the way, I was judged by HOST_Lily, and she opted to NOT take the path with the doors. She stayed on the proper track the whole time, thankfully :)
