Has anyone seen this series? I have heard about it, but never watched it and now I see I can rent it on DVD. Just wondering if it was worth renting.

The Sopranos is great, especially the first time when it's still 'new' - but if you are easily offended by violence, sex, or language, then stay away!

I LOVE it! I never watched it, then started renting the DVD's through Netflix about 8 months ago. I'm all caught up now and waiting for the next season to be released on DVD.

Definitely not for someone who is offended by violence, language, etc.

It is AWESOME! There is a huge following of Soprano Fans here on the DIS.

The show in my opinion is one of the best written shows on TV today. Before you decide if you like it or not, you need to give it a few episodes. So I'd watch about 4 before you decide if it is not for you or not.

Another fan here! We got hooked from the beginning. We were only dating back then and lived 600 miles apart. I didn't have HBO, so Chris would tape them for me. Then we'd catch up on it during the next visit.

The writing is edgy and it's full of humor. Gandolfini and Falco always deliver terrific performances.

Awesome show! My wife and I both agree that many of the characters could be most of her uncles. (No, her family is not from NJ);)

DH and I LOVE the Sopranos! I agree with CBRorBust: give it a few episodes before you decide if you like it or not. And pay attention! I find that if I miss an episode or only half-watch it, I'm lost.

Does anyone know when Season 5 will be released
on DVD??? We bought the first 3 seasons on DVD,
and then rented Season 4 through Netflix.

Wow, not one negative in the bunch! I guess that says it for me, will definitely have to check The Sopranos out.

we love the series. started watching just before the second season came on, MIL's bf lent us his season one tapes so we could get caught up beforehand. I'll tell you, very early on in the first episode I knew I wouldn't like it, it would be too violent (you all know the scene I'm talking about). however, I stuck with it for a few episodes and got hooked!

I agree. Go into the first episode expecting HARD violence. It is HBO remember that. It's not like violence you see on regular TV. Just remember it's okay to close your eyes. :p I do it all the time!

DH and I got HBO just to be able to watch it!! Love it!

Save your money for 15 months, the next show is January of 2006!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My DH and I laugh that DBIL is secretly Tony LOL and no, they're not from Jersey either.....but Italians from CT!!!

One of the best hour you can spend staring at a screen. Movie or TV or computer. Ever. Period.

Excellent show. Although I still like "Six Feet Under" better, "Sopranos" does kick some serious butt as far as TV series go.::yes::

Oh man, if I could go back and see the first season again for the first time... :teeth:

There are definitely times when you will cringe, but it is pure entertainment.

I also love Deadwood, but Holly goes into the bedroom and closes the door. :)

Holly says that only someone who has seen Deadwood would understand that comment. Oh well.

The problem I have with Deadwood is the swearing. I question where they used those types of swear words to that level back then. Who knows, though.

I wondered that too.::yes:: I jumped in on Deadwood halfway through the season, so I was a bit confused for a while. I spent alot of time asking DH questions, since he watched it from the get go.
