The Smiths are Heading Back...For 10 Days of Disney Magic! (Updated 8/16)

Courtney: You totally should look into a shoot with David & Vicki for your honeymoon! That would be so fantastic! :goodvibes

Love the $10 Friday idea! Great way to save!

Can't wait to see if/when you get that camera!

:sad1: to the evil ATM

You should totally get that camera! I have a basic point and shoot (Sony Cybershot) and I'm always in awe of the pictures Dis'ers take with their DSLRs! The ones of your daughter at the beginning of the PTR are fantastic!
:scared1: I cannot believe the ATM story! That's just awful! I would have been bawling!! So sorry you fell-- never a fun thing, ESPECIALLY when you're super stressed about something else, too!

Oh my goodness! I can not believe this ATM craziness! And falling down and dropping everything while trying to get it sorted out! So unfair!

Yay!!! Peer pressure for Courtney and Miguel!!!!

OH I WILL get the camera. It's just a matter of WHEN!

Well I'm a super klutz so it's not that weird that I fell but talk about adding insult to injury. :rotfl2: Have you thought about upgrading from a P&S? A DSLR is a little bit of a pricey initial investment but the quality of the pics is so worth it! Plus, when you go to WDW, you can get low light pics w/o using flash ;)

Oh my goodness! I can not believe this ATM craziness! And falling down and dropping everything while trying to get it sorted out! So unfair!

It was REALLY annoying. See above about me falling frequently though :rotfl: I'm a mess sometimes. I broke my ring finger one time as we were getting on a plane for a trip to DC, sprained my ankle couple days before Aisling's first WDW trip, and fell down an entire flat of stairs and flat on my back 2 days before my DISmeet trip. :headache:

Does she have a DSLR right now? If they are used regularly, they only have a 3-4 year lifespan of prime performance. (which is horrible given how much you spend on them). Mine has started to do some funky things (throwing error codes and such) so I decided that it's time. I'm terrified to think of being on vaca and having it die (let us not forget the lens dropping incident last year :scared1:) I actually think I'm going to keep the old body for "just in case" situations :rolleyes1

hers is only 2yrs old
she think she sleeps with it :rolleyes1:rotfl2:
it is her baby

ugh I remember seeing your posts about the ATM but didn't know you got hurt too

Mine is pretty much my baby too. I have a couple of nice purses but other than that, I really don't own many fancy things. It think other than my rings, it's the most expensive thing that is all mine in the house. I have a friend who's a photographer and she goes through at least 3 a YEAR!!! Isn't that scary?!?!

She's the one who took the pic of me with my baby that's on my FB

And this pic of Ash and I that would have been super cute if I had makeup on or my hair done:rolleyes: (Aisling and my BFF's daughter were having a natural backyard photoshoot for Christmas pics for our parents so I wasn't supposed to be in any pics)

You are just saying this because of the Mickey shirt and my hidden Mickey freckle on my face is very visible! Oh and my little vampire always looks cute ;)

Wow, is your nickname Klutzy Kristine?! I hope you don't seriously injure yourself in these escapades you have!

I would love to buy a nice camera like that but 1) I'm afraid I'd break it and 2) I'm too cheap to buy one :rotfl:

Well so it's mostly been a few broken fingers/toes and a couple of sprained ankles! My worst injury has been the 2 herniated discs in my back. Unfortunately, that is pain that I need to live with every day.

The camera itself is pretty sturdy...the lens on the other hand :scared1:

Yikes on the ATM and falling incident! :scared1: I hope the tour went okay. Can't wait to hear how all this turns out!

Oh my gosh, that is quite the story! I think 14 hour bus tours have bad karma or something, because when we went on our's to Pompeii, that's kind of how our day ended up - just one bad thing after another. :sad2:

Hey, hey....let's get back on track...its Friday night and I am dying to know the rest of the story. My guess is that the person was a decoy and his partner took your money and atm card while you were giving directions...am I right??? :confused3 And did you have enough money for the trip? And did you ever get your money or card back???? And And And And... :surfweb:

OK I won't leave you in suspense any longer. Resizing pics in PB and I'll be back. Some pretty pics coming up!

When I left you I have bleeding and crying and hopping on a bus. Randy was upset but was clearly holding it together for me. He gave me a look and said "Kristine, you can't let this ruin the day" And it was from that moment, I dried my tears and figured that we had to just enjoy it.

Now Randy and I both had some American money left on us that we could exchange in need be and we had our credit cards. We knew that neither would do us well today in rural Ireland but we knew had enough to get by.

Once on the bus, we quickly realized that the Blackberry that we were ASSURED by Verizon would work all through Ireland didn't work even on the outer burroughs of Dublin :headache:. The phone worked but the internet did not. So we couldn't email for help. Which meant we had to make some more phone calls (at this point we were still believing the claim that the card could be replaced ASAP). So when the tour was quiet and we were just driving through the country, we would make a call. And then we would get nowhere. None of their emergency numbers worked. They kept passing us off to other numbers- who would hang up on us. Yup, we got nowhere. So we decided to give up for awhile and just relax and enjoy the scenery.

We drove through County Dublin down to Kilkenney. From there we started heading toward Limerick. On the way, we came to the small village of Moneygall. Moneygall was the home of President Obama's great-great-great grandfather Fulmoth Kearney. When I tell you that this entire village was decorated in American flags and posters of Obama...it was HILARIOUS. Now we didn't stop in Moneygall because you literally blink you miss it but here is a pic from the internet. This is the ENTIRE village. So imagine it covered in US flags :rotfl:

We drove to Limerick until we got to Bunratty Castle. The only thing in this entire village is the Castle, 1 restaurant, 1 B&B, and a woolen mill. Oh and a phone booth

Here's the castle

Not the prettiest castle in Ireland (and it's certainly doesn't belong to a Disney Princess) but hey, it's a castle!

Next up was many hours of driving through nothingness. Gorgeous gorgeous countryside that Ireland is famous for. Unfortunately, these pics aren't the best since they are taken from the bus window but you get the idea

Finally after several hours, we arrived at the Cliffs.

083.jpg

Now if you've seen Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Princess Bride, Leap Year, and probably a gazillion other movies, you've seen these cliffs. Here is my version! Unfortunately, the strength of the wind doesn't come across in these pics but let me tell you, I was holding onto the walls, Randy, anything to brace myself. One fall a day was enough for me!

One end of the Cliffs, we walked along those paths to the Castle in the distance

Randy hopefully obeying the signs. The Irish don't sugar coat things!

Turn away from the cliffs...and there is NOTHING. You have to love this. The Cliffs of Moher are the highest attended tourist stop in Ireland and it's not surrounded by cheap hotels and neon signs.

ME!!! Look Randy figured out how to use my camera!

Pretty pics

After a couple of hours of walking around, we decided that we needed to try to make some phone calls again. Due to the wind, we hid in the little restaurant cut out of the hill. Not in the restaurant because we would lose reception in there. Just in the cut out. After 2 more failed phone calls during which we were connected to Wells Fargo and Visa :confused3, we decided to call in re-inforcements. Namely, my mom!

My poor mother must have thought we were being kidnapped or something. I called her number and when she picked up just yelled "mom write down this number quickly" :rotfl2: But really, even I can do basic math and at $1/min, I knew these phone calls were adding up. So I put my mom on it and asked her to make what calls she could from the states. At this point, we realized that we weren't getting our money back until we got back to the states (if at all :rolleyes1) so we were done making phone calls for the day. And I knew that if anyone was getting our money refunded...it was a momma bear whose baby bear was in another country with no cash. ;)

So the phone calls were done but our tour was not! We had more exploring to do and pics to take.

I just found your PTR, we are staying at Beach Club almost the same dates. We'll be there August 19th-26th. :)

I really hope you were able to recoup your money. I can't imagine that happening. Looking forward to the rest of the story and hopefully a happy ending.

Would you believe that in my 15+ trips to Ireland, I've never seen the cliffs of Moher?! I LOVED your pictures-- so beautiful!! I love seeing those gorgeous green hills spotted with white sheep!

those pictures are amazing
I always wondered where your facebook picture was taken :thumbsup2
Your poor mom you shouldn't scare her like that :rotfl:

Ella says she loves that castle and she wants to know if you died when you fell down :rotfl:
