The Smiths are Heading Back...For 10 Days of Disney Magic! (Updated 8/16)

Wasn't there too long- just my Jr. Year of College. Just long enough to gain at LOT of responsibility and independence (I was really dependent on my parents before I went). And it was a really fun way to raise my GPA. While I worked, I was graded by my mom, on a daily journal that we had to keep, and for a thesis we had to write about something we learned on our job sites. I ended up with a 4.0 for the year :cheer2:

The prices weren't just because of the exchange rate. Ireland is in really bad shape financially so everything costs at least double what it did on our last trip. It was a bit of a shock.

I did an internship during my senior year - you are right great way to get a 4.0! That is crazy about the prices!

PS - I know what you mean about that dreaded 34th b-day coming up... :sad2:

Ok you two - I just turned 38 a few weeks ago! Talk about :scared1:!

OK when you quoted me I realized I had a big typo...my MOM didn't grade me, my job did :rotfl2:

OOOH late 30s huh? OK I'll stop complaining about "mid" ;)

Hi, Kristine! Just realized you have this PTR going.

Yay for a BCV studio! :yay: We did the same thing last November...got the studio for cheaper than a regular BC room, due to the higher discount rate. One thing to be aware of, though, is that the regular BC rooms have been refurbished and the BCV rooms have not (as far as I know). While there was nothing wrong with the room, and the kitchenette was nice, it wasn't the same style of room as what we saw peeking through the regular BC patio windows. SAB is great, though...love the sand-bottom parts of the pool. Short stroll to Epcot and you've got Beaches & Cream right there too. I'm sure Aisling will love it!

I love the Ireland TR! Never been there, so really cool to see! :thumbsup2

Looking forward to hearing more about both trips!

PS - I know what you mean about that dreaded 34th b-day coming up... :sad2:

I KNEW someone told me that the math might work out cheaper for the villas...it was you :thumbsup2

The pics online did look like the room was refurbed and not the Villas but that is ok. I'm not in love with the theme of the rooms....it's more about the location and the pool

I think you'll be just fine then. Just one of those things that I wish I'd known in advance. The pool is awesome and I'm glad that you'll have a long and (presumably) warm trip to enjoy it (we only had a few not-super-warm days there). I also know that we didn't get the best studio location-wise (we had 450). There are some that you can see Epcot and parts of Illuminations from the balconies (we requested those). However, our trip was so short we wouldn't have had a chance to do that anyway, but you might want to!

Ya, we'll request Epcot view but I'm thinking that we have a snowball's chance in youknowwhere of getting one of those rooms ;) :rotfl2:

I love the Ireland mini-TR! It looks like a lovely place. It's so neat that you got to go back to a place that was like home for you. It seems like it holds a lot of wonderful memories. :cloud9:

It does hold a lot of wonderful memories. It truely was the best time of my life and it's the point of my life when I grew up the most and came out of my shell.

When I last left you, us lazy travelers were napping. And thank goodness we did because we ended up being out late.

Now, I need to share a little back story with you for the next part. When I lived in Ireland, I had a boyfriend over there. (well to be completely accurate, I ended up having a "fiance" over here but that's a whole other story for a whole other day...let's just chalk that up to me being very young and stupid at the time ;))

So, I shared a flat with 2 girls who went to college with me in the states. I didn't now them beforehand but we all got along really well and it worked out great. One day, one of them brought home a co-worker from her job site for dinner. He was really nice, about 7 years older than us, and frankly was awesome to listen to :rotfl2: Well, naive little Kristine didn't really catch on that he started coming over a LOT...until one night he asked me out. I was still so clueless, I tried inviting my roommates to come with me :rotfl:

Long story short, I ended up dating him while I was there, he proposed when I left, he took a leave for the summer and came here, and by the time I returned to college for my Sr Year I quickly realized that what I was more in love with was the romantic notion of it all.

BUT, while we were there, it was fabulous to have him around. And his family really adopted myself and my roommates. They had us over for all the holidays so we wouldn't be homesick, made us dinner, took care of us when we were sick...you get the point. Well, needless to say, I became very good friends with them too- particularly his sister Anne and her family. The kids still call me Auntie although I broke up with their uncle 13 years ago!!!! As I've mentioned, I've been back to visit several times and they are always so welcoming. Even when Randy visited....thought it might be awkward but nope, not at all! Randy loves them.

OK this story is getting insanely long, I'm sorry. Anyway, back in 2007, I got a frantic call from Anne at work. Now the only time Anne has every called me at work was on 9/11 to make sure we were ok. So I knew something was wrong. Turns out that her brother, my ex, had died (accident). Of course I immediately tried to make arrangements to fly over there for the services but given that a last minute airfare to Dublin is like $1500, they wouldn't hear of it. They actually wrote down the Eulogy and emailed it to me so I could hear it.

So flash forward to this trip, we went over Anne's house for a visit with the kids. It was really funny, when I pulled up her oldest son was outside (he's in college now) and yelled "Mam, Auntie Kristine is here" like it was totally normal for me to walk up their driveway on a Friday evening

Anyway, we visited for quite awhile and then headed out to the coast for an adult only dinner. We went to this fabulous restaurant in Malahide called Oscar Taylors. It was one of those restaurants that purposely has really slow service so you can sit and gab for hours. After dinner, we took a ride further up the coast and Anne ended up taking me to the Cemetary so I could say a proper goodbye. God love Randy for having no issue with this at all.

All in all it was a great evening. By the time we got back to the hotel it was well after midnight and we had to get up in a few hours for our tour!!

Well that was a horribly boring update! But in the next update, there will be pictures....and we will get ROBBED :scared1:

That is a cool but sad story. Glad you remained friends. Did he ever get married?

waiting for a update popcorn::

Did I know this? You are driving? If you see Aisling in the parks...yes, it's her...say hi!

You didn't know this because we literally just booked it :rotfl:
We are driving. Picking Tyler up from school Friday and leaving. Driving straight through :scared1:
She will be down there also?! Why aren't you tagging along? Show her my picture so her chaparone doesn't think I'm trying to kidnap her.

Well I only got one vote but it was wrong....
:headache:

Sorry to hear about your ex. Randy is such a doll :goodvibes

I don't think the update was boring at all! Glad you got to see them and are still close. It is so nice that they welcome Randy and that he had no issue with you saying a proper goodbye.

Okay. . .We need details on how/why Ash is going to WDW without you??? (I know it is with your MIL but we need scoop!)

Robbed?!?!?! Don't make us wait too long for the explanation to that!

So excited that I have some people DON'T know this story so they are going to be surprised by the story!

Nope, he never got married. It's actually pretty weird because they never mentioned him to me again until the day he died (which probably really helped Randy be comfortable with them when he first met them) It was almost like they forgot that is how we knew each other! And that night, they never mentioned that we were going to the cemetary until we got there. It was like they just knew that I would want to say goodbye but didn't want to make a big deal of it.

You didn't know this because we literally just booked it :rotfl:

He's a good guy sometimes...guess I'll keep him around!

I can't believe you are DRIVING through!!! Can't wait to hear about this!

So I interrupt this regularly scheduled WDW PTR/Ireland Mini-TR/Sob Story to tell you about Aisling going to Orlando in February. So my MIL is a teacher and was going to babysit Aisling over Feb school vaca for us so that we didn't need to take time off. Wellllllll, instead, she decided to watch her IN ORLANDO (w/o asking us first). My MIL's brother and his wife rented a house for the whole month in February. So she decided that she would take Aisling down there to "hang out" for the week. I immediately thought that this was going to be a huge issue. Aisling's cousins are going to be there and they are going to WDW for 10 days. Aisling will only be there for 5 days but my MIL didn't plan to take her to ANY PARKS. I told her that this was going to cause a meltdown. Ash is well-behaved but there is only so much restraint a 7 yr old can show when all the other kids are going to see Mickey! She eventually has relented and plans to go to the parks 1 day. Still don't know what day or what park. So basically, mommy is going to be a nervous wreck about this all week. I feel slightly better given the amount of relatives who will be there and I have a certain Orlando resident on emergency standby if need be ;) Well, there you have it...why Aisling is going to Orlando w/o us. It could get interesting :rolleyes1

bet Aisling will have a blast

That is up for debate. She was really excited at first and now she's so so. She's nervous about traveling w/o us. Right now we are just trying to convince her that she'll be totally fine and we'll be constantly reminding her that even if she does just "hang out" all week....she going to be @ WDW this summer for 10 whole days and we can do whatever she wants. ;)

And in planning news...I completely forgot to share my completely fabulous birthday present from my hubby!

Yes, he bought me my own paparazzi :rotfl2:

Seriously, while we are WDW, we are going to have a family photo shoot/anniversary shoot! Jen used this photographer on her trip and if she ever go around to doing a TR :rolleyes1 you would see some of her amazing pics. We have never had family pics taken AND Randy and I haven't had professional pics taken since our wedding. So I'm super excited to have some amazing pics taken of us and since part of the deal is that you get the rights to your pics...I will be able to share them in my TR :cheer2:

So yay to my hubby for not only paying for this fab gift but agreeing to actually DO it ;)

Now, if I could lose 40 lbs or so

I'm loving your Mini TR so far. It's so nice that you have stayed in touch with your ex's family over the years.

I'd be worried about Aisling too but I think that is because we have very similiar MILs.....:scared1:

I'm sure Ash is a bit nervous, I know I would be. I'll be down there too so if you need me for anything, I'll do it :goodvibes

I'm so super excited for you guys for booking David & Vicki! They are super awesome and I cannot speak highly enough of them. They are such professionals and love what they do. I never did get around to doing a TR, maybe I can do one for our February trip.
Here is one of my favorite photos to share with your readers

Your MIL would drive me crazy!

First to plan to take your child to FL without asking you first and then to have every kid but her go to WDW and now to agree to take her one day with no plan - :scared1:!

I hope Ash can relax and enjoy her time there whatever she gets to do. Reminding her of your August trip is a great idea in case this trip does not go well.

What a great present from Randy! I can't wait to see the photos!
We haven't taken a family photo either so one year I took a photopass photo of us in front of the castle, had 5x7's made and told the family that was there family photo of us. :rotfl:
