So Jen reminded me that I really need to get my butt moving on finishing my mini-TR to Ireland.
So I left you at the end of our really long touring day. We started the next day but sleeping in a bit. We got up, went downstairs, exchanged the rest of Randy's American cash for Euros and went down for our free breakfast!
Again, since we now had some cash but it was limited, we decided to walk back into the city. So we strolled through Stephen's Green again. Again...not warm enough for shorts
We walked down Grafton St where I was extremely tempted by an autographed copy of Maeve Binchy's newest book but I resisted
Walked by my street again- as you can see, it was a little grey out. Not at all raining but windy, grey, and chilly. But any day that it's not raining in Dublin is a bonus
Our plan for today was to head to the tourist office and book the remaining tours we wanted to do (the hop on/hop off and the Haunted History tour). Now, here is a tip for touring that you may not think of...the hop on/hop off tours are typically cheaper than taking cabs around. So sometimes it's worth is to pay for the tour and use it as a cab to the tourist locations...even if you have done the tour before. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've done this tour. And it really hasn't changed much. BUT at 19 Euro/person so 2 days unlimited use...it was WAAAAAY cheaper than cabs. So on we hopped.
First up with Christ Church Cathedral. Christ Church was built in 1030. If you go to Dublin, there is a cool exhibit about Viking and Norman ruled Ireland inside. And there a pretty good view of the city from the tour of the tower.
Next up is St. Patrick's Cathedral. Legend has it that St. Patrick used the Celtic cross to help convert the Druids so there are some gorgeous Celtic crosses on the property. Jonathan Swift and a bunch of other non-famous people are also buried in the Cathedral. Further trivia is that Ireland is predominantly Catholic country and their two most famous Cathedrals are actually Protestant churches
And this is when the tour gets slightly less "religious"
However, we skipped Guinness this day (don't worry...we are coming back)!
We also didn't stop at the smallest Pub in Dublin (don't think we'd fit!)
