Al, here we go again. :thumbsup2 Honestly, he was not the best and made mistakes but you really need to quit going to Moveon.org or to the kozkiddies to get your facts. For one, do you really think an almost 4 TRILLION deficit the Messiah:worship: just gave us even comes close or compares to what President Bush left? The economy was just fine an dandy until the Dems took over in 06. ALso, President Bush did not leave 4000 dead...Congress did. We will have to disagree on whether the war was necessary or not as personally I think the tard of a dictator had to be stopped regardless of WMD'S.. The Messiah:worship: has done more to harm this Country in his first month then President Bush did during his entire term. Now you owe me 2 beers for settin' ya straight again. I like JW Dundee Honey Brown. :thumbsup2

Now I have a headache again. Just thinkin' about the mess the Messiah has left us gives me a headache every time. NO MORE POLITICS TODAY..maybe.:thumbsup2

I am not a nobama fan. But congress didn't kill the soldiers. Bush sent them to war not the congress. Now I am not taking up for the congress. They are a bunch of bums and thieves, but they didn't stop Bush either. Ever notice how presidents that never went to war seem to have long wars. the presidents that have been in war usually just want to get the job done and get out. Look at George Sr. He ran saddam out of Kuwait and then brought the soldiers home. Sr. knew the horrors or war. If you have never had anyone shooting at you then you don't have a clue about war. not many in congress ever been in war either.

That being said yes i voted for Bush, not sure why though. He did leave the country in a mess.

Nobama will do no better but he will have to be awfully bad to do worse.

Want change in our country, then vote the bums out of congress.

Sorry, but Presidents cannot send us into war unless Congress approves it.
I'm up to 3 beers now. Two from Al and now one from Dan!:cool1: I do agree though that we need to vote all of them out and start fresh but I do not think it will happen.

That is true but this is another undeclared war. The president can send us on a police action.

Everyone I talk to agrees to vote the bums out. But they still get elected time and time again. Are we really that stupid here in america? I would like to think not.

Steve .... respectfully disagreeing here. The president can authorize the use of troops overseas without declaring war. To declare war officially, though, he/she must get the approval of the Congress.

Vietnam was never officially declared a war. Truman is given credit for sending the first troops in 1950 as a "military mission" (whatever that is). He also sent $15 million to aid the French in anti-communist actions in S Vietnam. Every president from Truman to Nixon sent troops, and did not need any approval from Congress to do so - because there was never a declaration of war.

It's interesting to note though, that during the Vietnam "conflict", the U.S. economy was fairly stable. I think one of the reasons might be that the U.S. Gov't at that time was keeping military contracts for weaponry and ancillary war items within the confines of U.S. companies. Now, we contract basically with our enemies to manufacture our war goods. When's the last time you shook hands with an employed U.S. Steel worker?

So would I, but deep down I know otherwise. Not stupid, just too lazy to think for ourselves and act accordingly.

Operation Iraqi Freedom was a formal delcaration of war by H.J. Res. 114 on October 16, 2002.

Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) was a formal declaration of war Sept. 14, 2001. S.J. Res. 23.

Again, Congress did approve this war so I am still owed 3 Beers. :thumbsup2 In fact, almost everyone of them did and were happy campers at the time that we did...except for the Messiah:worship: of course. Oops, I forgot that he forgot he was not even able to vote yes or no on the war at the time but he would have voted no had he been able.

Based upon contrived intelligence....... It was Bush's war make no mistake about it.

Besides I like to stir things up. The Rush mentality that everything is the fault of the dems and nothing the fault of the reps is utter hog wash. Since the Clinton inauguration there have been 8 congresses - 6 republican and 2 democratic - excluding the current congress which has been seated only 2 months - the last 8 years there has been a republican president - the last democratic president left a surplus - how in God's name is this mes the fault of the democrats?

I am a republican but everything they have done has turned to crap - and the takeover by the religious right is absolutely ridiculous - the focus has been on abolishing gay unions and abolishing abortion - not on the things they should have been focusing on.

This mess has been caused by outright greed - and the complete free market economy adhered to by conservatives, which I might add I was in favor of - that by the way excluded the concept of regulation - this just spurred the entire meltdown. Where was the SEC? Where was the Fed? Where was the NASDAQ when all this was going on. Who ignored hundreds of complaints about Bernie Madoff that allowed him to scam $50Billion? Who allowed all the ridiculous financial instruments that were totally built on a zero capital base? Why Bush appointees of course.

I could go on and on about this, but I won't. As for the war not being Bush's war :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: get real. Of course it was his.

Not only that, they authorized the use of force twice.

Just a slight correction - not a declaration of war - just authorized the use of troops - under the War Powers Act - thuis was requested by the White House - The pres can only use troops under certain circunstances....

You got it Rog

Deb the last time the US declared war on anyone was WWII. The War Powers Act was enacted in 1973 to prevent something like Vietnam from happening again. Here's the Act

Here's how it works:

As for Iraq

Here's Res 114

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d107:HJ114:

Here is the measure title

A joint resolution to authorize the use of United States Armed Forces against Iraq.

It was not a declaration of war just authorization to use US forces.

As for Congress authorizing it they did - because they're all a bunch of idiots - as for it being Bush's war it was and it is. He asked for authorization to use troops and Congress approved - he used the troops. He didn't have to request it and he didn't have to use them. Congress only authorized the use of the troops - Bush actually deployed and used them.

I was just showing you the War Powers Act

Ooooof.....Im pretty sure that post equaled a noogie sweetened headlock!!!!

:lmao:...she ALWAYS says that...she aint gonna pull over, you know how much gas costs in NY!!! Deb, give him a 3 stooges poke in the eyes!!!! Quick, he's open!!!
