I also got BF the day it arrived. I initially pre-ordered with
Amazon and then got the message they were back-ordered, which really delayed my game. I canceled and headed to Gamestop and there it was. I got the lamp, too.
I liked that visor though. How did that work? There's no hat option as an accessory. Did it come with a hair style? If someone would like to know all about the lamp, drop me a PM...
From what little I've been able to play, I've had crashing issues and it really gets on my nerves. Even with an empty downloads folder, so I don't know what it is. It was crashing during installation, but now it's a little better. It's not RAM, because I have 2GB. My video card is a year-old, high-end model from ATI. I thought maybe it was a driver issue and downloaded new ATI driver issued this month. After that, my game wouldn't even start, so that's not the problem. I had to reinstall the previous drivers.
Now I play for brief periods and save a lot. I've sent sims to Twikkii and Three Lakes. Luckily, I learned about the spawning bug before I had spawned many. I opened a test lot and used the NPC maker to show all NPCs and I only had 5 unsavories and 7 tour guides. I fenced them in with some cow plants and that did the trick, except for the pickpockets, since they're like Crumplebottom.
After that, I went on a housekeeping mission. In every neighborhood, I weeded out superfluous townies, college students, NPCs, etc. If I killed them, they'd still be around, so after I killed them, I had a sim resurrect them and had them move out to the Sim bin. Deleting them there really knocked down character totals in my 'hoods.
I also have gone through every lot in all three vacation places and removed music speakers, because I can't control them. Boy, do I hate that. I also did some redecorating, rearranging and additions, so when my sims go there in the future, it will be more fun for me.
It's all time-consuming but it's less frustrating than all the crashing. I can't believe Maxis isn't officially acknowledging the problems with BV. Are they shut up in a room at Maxis trying to figure out a game plan? Were people royally chewed there by superiors? Maybe both?
I'd really like to get into this game, but now I'm thinking a patch could be months away.....
I was looking at Celebrations, which I had skipped due to a lack of interest. I saw that's it's half-price on Amazon now. I'm tempted.....even knowing the wedding arch won't work on community lots. There's another bug to fix.
In my adventures, I have visited and explored the tropics and mountains. With my camera mods I have installed, I can pan across the hood views to see the locations of all the secret lots. The Mysterious Hut is way out there....
The witch doctor was interesting. I haven't tested the voodoo doll or soap in the fountain. I have the doll though. I also met Bigfoot but I didn't bring him home. After what I read on the forums, I'm tempted to do it. He doesn't age into an elder, does he? He just dies at the end of the adult stage? He doesn't live forever like Servos, zombies and vampires, does he?
I must admit that my favorite thing about the game is all the new Turn Ons and Turn Offs. It's just so nice to have more choices. Now my knowledge sims can pine for logical sims and my wealth sims can scout out high achievers!
