I grew up calling it a buggy, but lately it seems like people look at me like I speak Yiddish or something when I say it, so I've taken to calling it a cart.
I don't care what the heck y'all call it, JUST PUT THE DAMN THING BACK!!!
Just today I was in a parking lot and a stray cart/buggy was in the aisle where cars drive and they were driving around it. I put it back in the corral. Then I saw two women (who saw me put the cart back), who were both young and able bodied, leave their cart/buggy just in front of their minivan. It was a nice warm day and they could have easily put it back even though the closest corral was 10 spaces away. I don't get it.
It must be a regional thing. I grew up in GA and have always called it a buggy. Just like any dark-colored carbonated beverage is "a Coke". Even if I'm at Taco Bell or someplace that serves Pepsi, it's "a Coke" unless the server corrects me and then it becomes "Coke, Pepsi, whatever."

I've never heard it called either of those- its a shopping cart. A carriage is an old fashioned thing you push a baby in and a buggy- well only thing I hear called a buggy is a volkswagon beetle LOL.
