I am super excited about two days at Castaway Cay, a little bummed that the other port is Nassau... It will be a great trip though and will probably be much needed after next year!

Brat!

School is going well. Today a group of us got to go down to the Sim lab which is set-up just like a hospital room. There are 7 programmable dolls in there that they can give all sorts of symptoms. Since we are studying the cardiovascular system right now we got to practice listening to heart beats and taking pulses. It was very cool and nice practice for next year. They even have a doll that can simulate childbirth. We didn't get to see that today. :rolleyes1

We had just barely made it onto the ship before the skies opened up and started pouring.

We decided to go up to deck 9 and sit in the comfy chairs at the Quiet Cove Cafe to read and watch the storm.

D14177.jpg

After a short while I started to get restless and the rain had slowed so I decided to go for a walk around the ship. The crew were out in full force sucking up all the water that was pooling on deck.

I don't think there were too many people watching Beauty and the Beast poolside this afternoon.

D14183.jpg

The drink station, well a portion of the drink station. This is where you go to get your endless supply of "free" pop. The cups provided are tiny so I would always bring my WDW refillable mug when I wanted a drink.

Oh look, it stopped raining!

D14190.jpg

One thing Mom and I noticed that day was the construction work occurring at the dock. They had already started on the expansion that would make Castaway Cay ready for the bigger ships due in 2011.

I stopped by Palo to get a picture for Mom. She really loved this mask the day we had brunch and we had not gotten a picture of it.

Then down a floor to Topsider's

D14196.jpg

I didn't know where Mom was at this point so I decided to slowly make my way back to the room to see if she was there.

They were going to be showing Up! in here but they moved it to the bigger Walt Disney Theatre since so many people had been rained off Castaway Cay.

The shops on the ship are not open when in port or at Castaway Cay.

This is where you would go to get your basic touristy stuff like stuffed animals, photo albums, shirts, etc.

This store is more pricey and you find higher end goods here that are not specifically geared towards a Disney theme.

The cruise booking desk, they offer some really good deals if you book your next cruise while onboard. I think the typical offer is something like 20% off and a $400 onboard credit.

I made it back to the room at this point and I guess I just missed Mom. The stateroom attendant said she had just left.

Where oh where could my dear mummy be?

I went back up to decks 9 and 10 and at some point I found her. Don't remember where though.:laughing:

We grabbed some ice cream and strolled around the deck.

Well you all are probably thinking "It's nice out again, why didn't they go back to the beach?" Well it is a good thing we didn't because here is what happened a few minutes after we took those pictures.

D14234.jpg

Poor Mom, she was super depressed about all the rain we had had on the trip.

Um yeah, those dolls sound CRAZY!!! I just can't even imagine that. How strange.

Wow, that weather just looks so disappointing. Especially for all the people who thought "oh well, that wasn't too bad! Now the sun is out again!" Good thing you didn't go back!! Crazy weather!! Bleh!

It is a bit crazy but really fun. The dolls can even talk! There is a "hidden" room behind the lab where some of the teachers will observe you while you "treat" your patient. In that room the profs have voice controls for the dolls so they can control how the dolls act and talk and react to you. Very lifelike, I guess that is the idea though. :thumbsup2

I was very glad that we didn't go back, I felt bad for those who did but at least the ones who stayed on the beach for the first storm got a little bit more beach time before the second storm rolled in.

Stupid rain! Great pics of the ship.

I can see them having some fun with those dolls. Like making them scream.

Wow, that looked like a lot of rain in a short amount of time. I don't blame you for heading back to the ship! Your poor Mom does look pitiful, and I can't blame her! I sure hope that your cruise on the Dream will be much better!

I love your TR,
it's like a good book I put down and forget about
and find and read a few more good chapters.
Sorry about the rain, but your pictures really make you feel like you are there.

It was pouring buckets!
the rain does stink but hey you were on a cruise a disney cruise so it is better than a day at home right.
:thumbsup2

True but when it rains on a cruise it is such a bummer! It is not like you can keep on playing like at WDW. You are not allowed in the water and such when a big storm like that comes through for safety reasons so while there is lots to do on the ship you can't help but looking longingly at Castaway Cay.

Thanks! This book is almost over! Accurate description too as it is so freaking long! I bet you all are tired of me by now, those of you that are left. ;):rolleyes1

those boys were brave playing ping pong with the floor so wet...i would have fallen on my behind! LOL!

Those pictures of the decks during the rain look just like the ones I took during our Sailaway Party. In the middle of it, it started to rain. The performers hung in there as long as they could, but finally it was a downpour, complete with LOUD thunder and lightning! We took cover and watched everyone else run away. There were a couple of inches of water on the deck by the end. It's amazing how fast that water builds up!
