The Save Money for Disney Thread (Tips Included)

A faster way to make money blogging is to blog with payperpost.com or socialspark.com. I can assure that they both pay out and quite well! They deposit the money straight into my paypal account and then I immediately transfer it to my savings account. They have a referral program but I've never even bothered with it because I don't like to feel spammy. I just do the posts and make enough money that way to keep me happy. :)

Also, if you make anything at all etsy is a much better selling venue than ebay, in my opinion. The fees are much much lower, and it can be a great supplemental income.

I was just about to mention PPP. However, do be aweare that google nicks you in your page rank for doing PPP, so be aware of that tradeoff. :)

We save our change like a lot of you seem to be doing...ours goes in a shoe box that my kids decorated with Mickey and Minnie. I also make the conscious effort to skip my cappucino (my one real weakness) once or twice a week and dump the $3 into the Disney box instead.

For the kids: Last time we went to Disney, our DDs (9 and 10) did extra chores for their grandparents and great-grandmother for Disney spending money. (apparently great-grandmothers pay very well...they want to clean for her all the time now.)

Also, my husband is a realtor as his second/part time job. His other job pays the bills, then if he puts in the extra time and effort and has real estate income, this goes into the Disney fund. (In our state, the real estate market is s-l-o-w...couldn't make a living off of it right now, but makes for decent Disney money.)

Another thing is bzz agents. They send you free stuff. You tell your friends about it, tell bzz that you did that, they give you points.

NOW the points transfered over to my points, so we can get gift cards for disney. cool!

We also do etsy. It does take a bit of work.. but, very rewarding, when someone wants your creation. It is paying for well over 1/2 our trip.

If only mypoints would get Disney gift cards.

Good afternoon. I am back in Wilmington, NC visiting my family. Returned a wedding gift and put another 5 bucks in the fund :)

Returned a bunch of PMs too. Sorry for the late reply! Can't wait to catch some sun at the beach today...that is after I take the better half shopping. :scared1:

Ok - I want to join too. We are going next March during the kids spring break. Right now I am trying to find a good airfare for dates and times that will work. I want to get that booked ASAP as not sure what the prices are going to do with the price of gas the way it is. This is what I have so far in saving for Disney.

1. $1800 from the Government per our Stimulus Check.
2. $300 in Paypal Account from E-Bay
3. $400 in Ing Account (Have $60 a month direct deposited)

So, total so far is $2500. Figure Airfare is going to be around $1300 for the 4 of us. We are renting DVC points, so that will be about $1000 depending on how many days we end up staying (which all depends on our airline tickets) and the fact we haven't decided what resort to stay at. We are also getting the dining plan, which would be approx $875-$1000.

So, am getting closer to having it all paid for. Am having a garage sale at the end of the month - usually make at least $500 (last year I made $900). Plus, we also have a huge change jar that we were going to use this year on our cruise but didn't need it so we are just trying to fill up the jar. It is a pretty big glass jar, probably at least $500 in that also.

My DH also gets 2 extra paychecks a year and usually I would use some of that money, but hoping I won't have to and going to use the one in August all for Christmas Shopping.

I also just did a Taste Test (waiting on $15 check) and a Toilet Paper Test (Getting $30 for that plus a months supply of TP) - Oh and I forgot that I have 2 jars in my closet. One is for Disney - the other is my Mad Money Jar - each has about $300 in there also.

I am signed up online for some local taste test/product testing sites. They send out e-mails and you see if you qualify. This last one they sent the product to my house and I had to taste it and answer a few questions and they will mail the check next week. (This one is consumersurveys.com)

The Toilet Paper Testing is from our local mall. They have a testing/survery site in the mall and will call or send an e-mail when stuff is available. The TP is kind of crappy (pardon the pun) but it is free and I get $30.

We put gas and groceries on the Amex card for double miles. I joined Sunshine rewards and as of today I have $194 towards my disney fund. I will make super member status next month and it is my goal to have $300 for disney by mid august.

There are many reward sites around but I like this one the most.

We had a garage sale and sold $150 worth of stuff I would have given away. I also sold a paint colt and horse trailer. With the price of hay this year the horse had to go before I fell in love with him.

I took a little PT job but wonder about the cost of fuel vs. my paycheck??

So tell me more about Sunshine Rewards. I must be missing something. I went ahead and signed up but all I kept finding was offers to get points by buying more stuff. I don't mind getting tons of junk email, but I don't want to have to spend money to make money. Am I just going to the wrong place on the site?

That is awesome! I wish I had that much saved. :) Getting paid to test toliet paper? That has to be the awesomest thing I've heard in a long time. Where can I sign up for that!?! :P

It's always a good idea to setup a secondary email account just for joining these websites that pay you to keep from getting boatloads of spam mail.

So a quick update to those of you who PMed me about the getting paid to surf Yahoo thing on the first page. I spoke with Julie in customer service and they have fixed the bug and have credited everyone for June 9th and June 10th. I had an extra 10 bucks in the account this morning from the two days of searches, so all is well. Sorry I was so tardy in getting back to everyone. :goodvibes

I'll work on a blog post on one of my websites that consolidates alot of information into one easy to read format. Until then, you'll find me best on this thread or through Private Messaging.

Keep saving money and keep brainstorming. The wife and I were waxing nostalgic about Disney today and I was listening to MP3s of the old Imagination Pavilion ride with Figment in the car this morning :P Gah, I'm a sap.

Richie, just a quick question. . .how long do you have to search to be credited?

For instance. . .If I do a search for cameras and the search results come up. . .how long do I have to look at the search results to get credit?

I also noticed that I am only getting 0.01 in UK pounds for each search. Is this correct?

Round up to next dollar with check book.

Everytime I write a check or update my check book with my receipts I round up to the next dollar amout...ie.. starbucks $3.92 round up to $4. Then at the end of the month I "collect" my change BIG BUCKS!

Also easier to add and subtract...no cents to confuse. At least for me anyway.

I do this too. It's super easy and not painful at all. Works out to quite a bit!
This may be obvious, but be super careful with groceries. Make sure everything is used, leftovers and produce and little dibs and dabs. Throwing food away is throwing money away. I know alot of people love soda, but really..it's just sugar water, and coffee is just..well, coffee water. So if you like these things I'd say go cheap product rather than brand. Take the same amount of money out as you would normally spend for grocery shopping and then stick the savings directly in your account. We use the envelope system for our weekly cash, and any left goes right into the cash-at-Disney fund.
It never hurts to spend a week and write down every dime you spend to see just what is waste and what you can cut.

Usually it's the next business day when I notice it. I've noticed that certain search terms provide bigger payouts though. For example, when testing the waters, I searched for "Home Business" and "mesothelioma" which are the two highest paid terms and received more money for those searches. Since they have switched to Yahoo for payout rates, I am unsure of the algorithm though. Just from my 11 quick searches yesterday, I made £0.27. And I can tell you all those search terms were for a game called "Age Of Conan" hehe

It never hurts to spend a week and write down every dime you spend to see just what is waste and what you can cut.

That is true. Though, I'm recently married so I am finding out how much cosmetics, hair scrunchies and other female things cost in a hurry. :duck:
That foundation is expensive stuff :worried:

I'm chuckling over this b/c I have a 16yo boy and for every $5 that he would use to buy food when he's at school, I spend $10 to feed him when he's home. Maybe it's b/c they purchase food in bulk and can prepare it more efficiently than I can at home. But having a teenage boy home during the summer will mean that my grocery bill will rise considerably! No savings there for me!

Oh believe me, he is a 6'5" 198 lbs. basketball player who now does daily weight training. He eats his weight in money weekly, it just makes me feel better to actually put the "lunch money" somewhere else. It doesn't matter that after school, he usually like to visit McDonald's or Burger King to the tune of $6.00 or $7.00 also.

Richie, can you pm me the site to get paid for using the search engine. I am searching all the time on both google nad yahoo, would looovvvee to get paid for it!!! Thanks.

tee hee, I just realized your location + you just graduated med school = I have a good guess where you worked. Sure enough, I looked you up in Groupwise and I do believe we work at the same place, well except I am an accountant there and not on the medical side.

So :wave2:

At the start of today,I had $1400,but ended up buying a PS3 for DH for Father's Day.Now -$450.He hasn't asked for one since Christmas, but it was a good deal.It might still go back.I don't know.Should I keep it?

I put away $200 out of DH paycheck.I also put all of my paycheck into our account.I live on my tips, which in Sept. will all go into our account.(I am a hairstylist)

I save all of my change. One time I was with DH and we went to Wendy's.We got change back and we were fighting over who got to keep the change. He said because we were in his Jeep that he got to keep it.He puts all his change in his ashtray for a pick me up Frosty from Wendy's.(We don't drink so that is his "fix")

We have already paid off our airfare.Glad we bought them in March. We bought 2 at full price, and 3 with frequent flyer miles. We used 25,000 miles for one ticket. Now the "cheap" flights are at 47,500 miles each. The airfare are up about $30 a ticket.Glad I am a planner.

Very nice! Alot of you are saving good amounts of money. :) My savings pales in comparison hehe $203 today. My ebay items closed at around 200 bucks which is more than I thought I'd make this batch. Most of that goes towards closing costs though. I'm sure I am going to have to buy a lawn mower and underground electric fence too. :stir:

Yes I worked at Princeton Community Hospital for two years. Really good folks there and I will miss them very much!
