We have booked the Sagamore Resort for 3 nights in August for our 10th Anniversary. :bounce: :Pinkbounc

We have dinner planned at their nicest restaraunt (Trillium) on our Anniversary night, but have 3 days and 2 additional nights to plan (no DSs along for the ride;)).

If anyone has spent any time at The Sagamore (on points or cash), and has any thoughts on how to enjoy a couple of summer days and nights, your ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks!! :)

Visit their website...I think there is a great deal to do in that region before Labor Day. In addition to checking their site you might also do some research on Lake George (or is it Placid).

Since you are there in August you may want to take a day and go to Saratoga race track. You do not have to like horses or betting, it is a beautiful place. You can watch for famous movie stars that come up for the season. Saratoga is probably less than 30 minutes away. It is a beautiful area. You can see what the new DVC resort will be modeled after.

Lake George itself has much to offer. There are excursion cruises available to see the area. You can visit the Fort at the southern end of the lake (in Lake George village) or drive to the northern end of the lake and visit Fort Ticonderoga - a Revolutionary War fort situated between Lake George and Lake Champlain.

The whole area abounds with Revolutionary War sites and Lake George has references to many familiar names from that era. The area was the setting for some James Fennimore Cooper writings (Last of the Mohicans) and the surrounding mountains and forests will offer some great serenity. Lake Placid is also nearby and offers a close up view of the Olympic sites found in that area.

You'll love the casual elegance of the Sag and the lake iteslf is beautiful.

Enjoy! (...and Happy Anniversary!!)

I grew up on Lake George. It is beautiful. The most beautiful part of the Lake is the Northern part where the Sagamore is located. The Sagamore has a boat that gives tours right from their docks. We used to camp on one of the islands nearby. The water was so clean we used to drink from the lake. I don't think they do that now, but is still very very clean! The smartest thing NYS did was to make sure all the islands remain state owned. People of all likes and income can enjoy the islands either for a day trip or camping overnight.

The executive chef at the fancy restaurant Trillions(sp?) is a very close friend of my families. He used to be the chef at the Woodstock Inn in Vermont (which is also a 5 star hotel). He comes from a family of 8 children, so he learned how to cook for himself early on! You will love the whole experience there. Tell him Val from NH said hello.

In the town of Bolton Landing, try the Algonquin restaurant (right on the water)while you are there. The boaters pull right in and dine on the docks. The shops in Bolton are great also.

Lake George has lots of shops also, but I like Bolton's better. You will see lots of action in the town of Lake George in the summer. My niece drives the horse and buggy rides during her summer break from school. Lots of miniature golf, wax museums, etc.

Don't miss Prospect Mountain. It's a short ride to the top, and you can see 100 miles in all directions. The Green Mountains of VT, NY's Catskills and of course, the beautiful Adirondacks all around the Lake. You can picnic on the top. Once you reach the crest, a tram will take you to the top. You can also hike it easily.

There is also a discount shopping mall nearby.

I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have on the area.

I just want to second the suggestion by jcanary. If you are in this neck of the woods in August, you have to go to Saratoga for a day. It is "the August Place to Be".

Plus you will get a feel for the new Saratoga Springs Resort coming to DVC.

We're thinking of checking out a couple of colleges in Western Mass in April. While there we thought we might drive a little further and . go to The Sagamore for a night or two. for those of you who have been there, what activities would be available at that time of the year? Are the amenities of the hotel included in your stay or do you pay extra for each activity, i.e. the fitness center, tennis etc. Thanks for any info.

Hi! I have stayed at the Sagamore before (not thru DVC) and it is quite lovely. The summer is a great time to visit! The race track (Saratoga) is in full swing, there are concerts and stuff going on a SPAC (Saratoga Performing Arts Center -- you can find ticket info on ticketmaster), the Philadelphia Orchestra is here in the summer, Lake George is very nice to visit - there is the Great Escape (theme park), miniature golf, Prospect Mtn, boat rides on the lake, etc. Have a great visit!

You'll have a great time. It's a beautiful hotel and Lake George is a treasure. (Staying there in 2 weeks!). Consider booking the dinner cruise on their boat, The Morgan. It would be a great way to get out on the lake and have a great meal. Don't forget the spa! The little town of Bolton has lovely unique shops and is within walking distance of the hotel. (Maybe .5 mile .... nothing compared to walking around the parks!)

I forgot to mention the dress code is STRICTLY enforced in the Trillium ... even for kids.

I may be a bit partial because I live there! August is wonderful in Saratoga Springs. Loads of restaurants, lots of night life. Even famous people to spot. Just sitting on a bench to people watch can be fun.

The Saratoga Perfoming Arts Center (SPAC) could have some cool concerts while you're there. The talent often stays at the Sagamore! Keep an eye out for them at the pool.

Happy 10th anniversary. We just had ours in October. And they said it wouldn't last.........
