The Running Thread --2025

ATTQOTD: In addition to oversleeping dreams, I've had multiple stress dreams about the course being bizarre. One of them was a marathon and we were running barefoot through people's houses as the course. One was before my ironman and the swim was like 240 laps around a standard-size circular backyard pool (which definitely wouldn't even be enough distance.)

ATTQOTD: I don't think I've had too many stress dreams around races. Before my first marathon I remember a few where I overslept or ended up on the wrong course. I do think it's healthy to have some anxiety and that probably means you're ready to just do the thing!

ATTQOTD: I haven't had a really good race dream/nightmare in a long time. It's usually either 1) I can't find something I had packed to run in, and I'm searching my bags and wind up missing the race or 2) The race course has a bunch of wacky obstacles to get to the finish line. For example, in one half marathon dream we ran through buildings, and the last 0.1 mi , you had to jump out a window and fall through the finish line.
Had to do a search to find this post from the MW 2018 page, which must describe the craziest one I've had about a Disney race:

ATTQOTD: I have totally had pre-race stress dreams. Usually only for big races. I've had the oversleeping/missing the start ones, and the bizarre course ones. Before the 2023 MW marathon (my first), I had a dream that I had to run through a hotel, and I got stuck on an escalator going the wrong way. 😅 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, so I thought to help my mental state I would skip stressing out over a 15k last Saturday. I’m in a little better place this week, and did strength training and a run outside this morning. I just learned the race is actually tomorrow. So that’s….good?

No stress dreams of running, though, as my life is one long stress dream about everything

ATTQOTD: I once had a dream that I overslept and had to start a race "Willie Mays Hays" style - sprinting to the start. When I really think about it, that may be preferred to having to wait in a corral for 45 minutes 🤣

That’s called the 2020 marathon. They delayed the start because buses got lost or stuck in traffic, and people were abandoning the buses and running to get to the start line.

Oh, the dreams with weird courses/starting late/etc are de rigeur for me before a race.

For example, in one half marathon dream we ran through buildings, and the last 0.1 mi , you had to jump out a window and fall through the finish line.

But never had I had one where I had to jump out a window....spectacular! (And the donkey parade is also one of the most unique I've heard)

I am preparing my nutrition for Sunday’s HM and most of my stuff is past date…
Would you use Maurten Gel 100 Caf 100 best before January 2024 if they are not swollen? Should I try one before to test and if it seems ok, use it?
I would think that Clif Bloks best before August 2023 are fine. Then, none of the SIS Isotonic pouches have any date on them… I got them Fall 2023. As for Gu, they span 2022 to 2024 but they are just sugar, right?

I’d use any of those. I’m sure they’re still fine

I have used expired Maurtens and GUs. The GUs were the same, but the Maurtens had separated a little somehow, so the consistency was a bit weird. I didn't get sick or anything, though. However, I have heard of people feeling bad after having expired Maurtens specifically, so maybe save that one for when you can stay close to home?

Yeah I'm going to say a lot of "best by" dates are more because some processed foods separate, and won't have the right consistency, like fat-free yogurt. As far as getting ill, stuff lasts longer than is stated a lot of the time. I say this as a total non-expert.
