The Running Thread --2025

This is my 8th year entering, and probably 8th year being rejected.

I wish each year you were rejected it would give you an extra entry until you're accepted. That way newbies would still have a shot, but people who've been trying for a long time would have better odds. So first year, 1 entry. Applying for your 4th time, after 3 unsuccessful lotteries, 4 entries.

Like the hunger games, but with a better prize for being chosen.

Good luck to the NYC lottery entrants. I'm glad I was able to get to run in '23 in via qualifying time (from 2019....it was for 2020, but you know, Covid)

Apparently slightly less challenging--I did receive my Boston Volunteer assignment. I am going to be an Expo Ambassador on Sunday--think " -Walmart Greeter" but with a nicer shirt/jacket! My email said this year there is a 2,000 person volunteer waitlist.

That probably explains why I haven't heard anything yet. This is my first year signing up to volunteer, so I'm taking this as a sign that I'm not likely to make the cut.

Someone just shared this with me: a race series in the national parks! Does everyone else already know about this?
I am sooooo into destination running now [holds thumb over his punch card showing exactly 2 destinations....], and doubt that I'll get to do even one or two of these, but I love the idea. That said, I have told the DW that I'd like to do more destination runs, especially in places we'd like to visit anyway. She rolled her eyes and harrumphed, so I'll take that as support for the idea....
https://www.vacationraces.com/half-marathons/.
I ran the Zion Trail half marathon in April of 2021 and it was gorgeous! We ran on Goosebury Mesa, which is a few miles outside of Zion NP. As someone else mentioned, these races are not IN the national parks, but very close and still very scenic areas. The race was very well organized, despite them having to change the start/finish area due to Covid protocols and their communication was great throughout. I would definitely do another race with them.

They also have Global Adventures where you get to spend a week running in amazing places!!

So...like the Hunger Games reaping? 😂😂

Does someone manually draw names out of a hat for the NYC marathon?? What takes them so long? At this point I've accepted that I didn't get in.

Another rejection over here. I said I was letting the lottery gods decide my fate this year, but now I'm invested and considering one of the international tour operators...

Someone needs to talk some sense into me.

Don’t look at me to talk you out of it -that’s the route I’m taking. Honestly the package wasn’t much more than doing the race and hotels anyway.
