The Running Thread--2024

If anyone has Amazon Prime their Big Deal Days start today (and Walmart, Target, Wayfair are all doing stuff too). I'm seeing lots of running-related items, including a Garmin Forerunner 255 Music for 45% off. Also lots of protein shakes and some flavors of Liquid IV.
I got a couple items for my home gym, and then I figured it was a good time to get another order of Sports Shield. Once I start testing my costume for the Princess half, I'll need that since the top is a tank top. I arms may not chafe in Florida, but it's always dry in Colorado.

Do any of you flat footed, heel strikers, have a suggestion on a super shoe? Decided that I want to pick up a super shoe to use for the marathon in MW, along with other races I have scheduled. I did pick up a pair of Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3 a few months ago. I wore them for a recent 10k race. While I did like the results time wise, my left leg was hurting afterward. The shoe kept forcing my left foot to the outside, and my I felt like my IT band was starting to become irritated. Right now I may go try on the New Balance Supercomp Elite 4 and the Saucony Endorphin Pro 4. I will probably also go try Asics Metaspeed.

I tried the Adidas and did not like at all. Very sloppy feeling. Really like the Pro 4s for races. Using a pair of Mizuno Neo Vistas for training runs and it's extremely comfortable.

It’s not a carbon plate, but I like using the Saucony Endorphin Speed for the marathon. I don’t know how much more the carbon might help with the Pro, but the nylon fiber treats me just fine.

The Endorphin Speed is also one that I am probably going to check out. I like the concept of the nylon plate.

If you heel strike, a carbon plate is doing nothing for you. It’s designed for mid and forefoot strikers to deform and rebound. I recently snagged a pair of Adios Pro 3 for $100 and love them, but I’m a high cadence mid-foot striker. I might like them more than my Vaporflys, except the upper is trash. I ran a 10k in the AP3s this morning and they were stable and snappy.

I would suggest for you the ASICS Superblast 2. I have the original Superblasts, and they only opened up after 100 miles, but once they did, the shoes were amazing. The Superblast 2 is like that right out the box.

Many of the moderately heel striking triathlon pros are wearing the Hoka Rocket X2 for their marathons. They say it helps them as their form deteriorates by the end of the Ironman. Personally, I use the Endorphin Speed in training, the Pro for my full distance races, and the Asics Metaspeed Edge+ for a 70.3 or shorter. The Pro is a bit more comfortable when walking through aid stations at the end of an 11-12 hour day.

I want to try on these Hoka Rocket X2 now. I can't find them available anywhere near me. Hard to order a $250 pair of shoes without knowing how they feel.

I will have to try the Superblast 2 also. I am a fan of the Novablast line, so these may be a good fit. Novablast 2 is my favorite.

Made it through Milton with fence damage but nothing else. We kept power and internet the entire time. Feeling incredibly grateful.

Milton also brought cooler temps, and this morning was my first run under 70 degrees since April. It felt amazing and I was 30 seconds per mile faster than usual. :)
