The Running Thread -- 2022

I have a question, not sure if this could be a QOTD (it's been a while since I typed that out lol).
QOTD for 3-25: For those who started out with a C25k plan, once you completed the plan, what was next?

ATTQOTD: It's been a really long time and to be honest I can not recall what I did next with certainty. At the time of C25k I did not have a Garmin yet, so I do not have a record of what I did after it. I think I joined a paid running group with Fleet Feet (Went out of business) and went from there. I guess for my answer, I think I may add a 4th day of running at first, then slowly add some distance. Then after a while add a 5th day, followed by increasing distance. I am curious what everyone else did or would recommend.

ATTQOTD: my C25K plan sort of morphed into a C210K plan because I was more capable than I expected. Then I started a long, slow-building half marathon/Princess Challenge plan. Now that that’s completed, I’ve increased from 3 days of running to 4 days, with one of those days being a “challenging“ run, either with longer run intervals, or faster running.

Lots of good advice and feedback. At times I had runners tell me to relax my shoulders or my hands, to look up, etc. My form and my breathing improved thanks to their inputs.
I was in a really supportive and lovely running group once that I dearly miss (I moved out of state), but your post just reminded me of a time I was on a run with them and some random person I didn’t know told me I sounded like I was hyperventilating and I needed to breathe better lol. I am sure they were just trying to help but it came off rude and made me feel bad.

ATTQOTD: iirc, the first time I did C25K was in undergrad. I ran a 5k without walking at the end. It was an informal race for a group I was in and I have no idea what my time was but I wish I did because I don’t think I have run that far without walking since then. After that race I didn’t run much. I did bike across the country though, haha. I’ve done C25K a few times since but it’s been like 10 years, and I don’t remember it well.

ATTQOTD:
I’m not sure I ever really completed the C25k program I started, but I did find one that really helped me learn to slow down (which helped my breathing and helped me realize I could run without hating it). I did run a few 5ks that spring, and then signed up for our local store’s half marathon training group (now a Fleet Feet) for that summer/fall. I remember the first long run was 4 miles, and I had never ran that far!! It was a little intimidating, but the group helped me have a time a place to be somewhere to get the run in.

Pretty similar, I had taken a few years off of running, many years ago, and had to start from scratch. I basically did this: Finished a C25K program (with a running group!) then set a half marathon goal for about 6-8 months in the future to give me time to work up to it.

Yeah, like a lot of others I guess, the specific C25K app I was using also had a 5K-2-10K plan, so I did that next. It was a 6 week plan, but I stretched it out longer than that because I wasn't feeling quite right some weeks. And then I eventually just started running more often every week, then rolled into HM plans.

ATTQOTD:

I was injured last year and had to start back up very slowly. I did something similar to C25K to start, then I added a 4th day of running, then added some distance, then went into a half marathon plan. I really tried to focus on consistency the most (vs. speed or distance).

My oldest son and I didn't transition into any formal framework, in general, but just into "run more". This may or may not have been a good thing.

Great news! Now don’t overdo it and run a full marathon right away! Give yourself some grace and build up slowly. You can run!!!
That’s the plan. I’m no where near ready for those long miles, but being told I do not have limitations down the road was amazing news. I think my better half is a bit nervous about it but she trust the doctors advice.

ATTQOTD: After C25k, I just ran three times a week enjoying what that summer had to offer. I took winter off, training at the gym instead. After I resumed, I eventually consulted with a coach and we discussed what my objectives were. That year I upped my distance all the way to HM but with three runs a week. Other years I worked on speed. Then on distance again, to run two marathon as a tourist (hello Dopey 2020). Then on volume, going to five runs a week (hello 2021k in 2021).

Basically, there is no right or wrong answers. Decide what is important to you (enjoying the scenery outdoors, going long, going fast…) and you will choose a plan accordingly.
