The Running Thread - 2021

I didn't realize that. I can't imagine the border will still be closed this fall but you never know. That begs the question, which will happen first:
  • rD announces a race schedule
  • Canada announces the border opening back up
My bet is on the border...

Amazing question!

I hope USATF grows a paid and doesn't let Shelby and her dirty burrito start.

Doesn't seem likely.
This is a mess and definitely the wrong call. Don't get me wrong, I think she should have the ability to appeal, but allowing her to compete during the appeals process is not a way to show that you take the idea of having a clean sport seriously.

She already lost her appeal. She has a Hail Mary left that has almost no chance of success but the damage to USATF is unrecoverable. The whole thing reeks of Nike manipulating the process but it looks like she is back out.

Nike is just plain toxic. I don't know what the solution is anymore - anti-doping measures aren't working, athletes feel like they have no choice but to dope in order to be competitive and earn a living, and there seems to be little reward for those who don't dope. I really wanted to believe and support Shelby Houlihan, but her defense is looking pretty weak at this point. It all makes it hard to be a T&F fan these days.

And for sure - this is such a bad look for USTAF.

Had a 13 miler planned for this morning but it was too hot and humid for the pace that I set and I ended up bagging the last 2 miles and walking them because I couldn't get my heart rate down. I think that I need to back off some of my walking mileage. I am running 35-40 miles/week, walking 50+ miles/week and doing P90X 4 hours/week. This was fine when it was cooler but may be too much in the heat.

Hi all, it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. After the Gettysburg half and getting a POT, I just got in a funk and haven’t done much. I think a combination of work, life, and uncertainty of Dopey ‘22 got to me. My friend, who I went out to Gettysburg with, told me about the course for a full marathon he’s doing in October. He said without a doubt I could do it. I’ve wanted to do my first full in Disney. Then I started to feel that, for me, I needed to experience a full before doing Dopey. I know many of you had your first full as part of Dopey. But where I am mentally, I needed something on the calendar before Dopey. So....I registered for a full in October! It’s the Wineglass in Corning, NY. I’m nervous but I will put in the work and see how it goes. If anything, I’ll get a PR lol.

Of course after I registered earlier last week, I see the other threads blow up Friday about rD haha.

Good luck with your October Marathon! I also had originally planned to do my first as part of Dopey and ended up preferring to run one locally before. It feels good to be able to know that “I am a Marathoner” and enter Dopey with that added confidence.

I'll be at Wineglass as well! Welcome to the Club!

Yes they are. I have some old Nike gear I wear but I refuse to give them

I wouldn't make my first full part of Dopey. I would either do a full in advance with ample time to recover or I'd just do the marathon at Disney and skip the other races. I'd probably no do an October race followed by Dopey 3 months later but if you are putting in the miles and feel like you can recover then go for it, you will know your body better than anyone.

I will not complain about the heat until July. I will not complain about the heat until July. I will not complain about the heat until July...

The temp here was 82* with a Feels Like of 90* before sunrise this morning. But I'm NOT complaining. Yet. :rotfl2::headache:
I had the same issue yesterday for my long run. 88ºF at 9am with a heat index of 102ºF...

Getting up at 3:45a to run is getting really old.

Yesterday was atypically cool for my long run here in central NC. Only 72deg, but with 100% humidity. The price paid for that relative “comfort”, though, was 12 miles of intermittent downpours from TS Claudette passing through.

You know it's summer in the south when we're willing to run through a tropical storm to get some relief from the heat lol! Claudette has been bringing us a ton of cloud cover and copious amounts of humidity here in west-central FL - which is totally better than our usual copious amounts of humidity and full sun.

If anyone is in the hunt for any smartwatches check out the Prime Day deals. There are a few Garmin deals that look pretty good.

Yeah I went out at 7 am here in Atlanta. I stepped out the door and went yuck. I think i will slow it down. I definitely need a pace adjustment. It was 73 and the dew was 72. Humid as crap. It was probably the worst weather i ran in this year so i still need to adjust. Surprisingly last week was warm but low humidity. My runs in the morning had some great weather. I think its gone though.
