QOTD: Who is your personal running hero? By this I don't mean Meb or Pre or even Forrest Gump...I mean who is the person in your life that inspires you and makes you want to get out running yourself. This could be the person who first introduced you to running or someone you met along the way of your running journey...it's
your hero so you can make up the rules
Oh gosh. I mean, currently, I run for myself. I am inspired to do it for myself because I have seen the benefits. I have enough motivation for that right now. That being said, I am inspired to go faster, farther, and try new things by you guys and a few friends and family members. I always read everyone's times and the amount they ran in a month and want to do more the next month (not this month though, I'm still recovering).
@Keels and
@FFigawi especially encouraged me to push farther. I never had any interest in doing Dopey until I saw Keels get roped in and enjoy it (is that the right term?) enough to do it again. I also have a cousin who encouraged me to do the C25K before I ever started running, friends who ran Disney and made me think "I want to do that" so much that I did, and an aunt who did a tri for the first time at 59 and made me want to do one too.
QOTD: “WOULD YOU RATHER”: DIS-RUNNER EDITION! Answer A or B (reasoning welcome)
Race in thick jeans OR An itchy wool sweater - I can run in jeans. I have thick jeans that are comfortable. I would probably cry if I had to wear an itchy sweater to run.
Free entries+flights to races for a year OR Free shoes for a year (you can stockpile!) - I would have to buy a lot of shoes to match the amount of free I would get out of entries/flights in a year
Harassed by bees OR
Chased by an angry Chihuahua - Bees sting and I could at least keep good running form with a Chihuahua chasing me, bees would make me dodge and break form.
Race through WDW with no characters OR Race at home with Disney characters - I like the scenery at Disney. The characters are great and all but it's the on course support from the cast and the view of the parks that makes it for me. A caveat would be if the race was in 100F weather, then I would be all about running at home.
GPS runs out of batteries pre-race OR
Drop your headphones in the porta-potty - I could survive without either if I had to but I generally don't use my headphones for shorter races and even when I use them I could always live without them.
Bonus Dole Whip Aid Stations OR
Bonus Mickey Waffle Aid Stations - My body would process waffles better during a race. Dole Whip would mean hitting a port-a-potty.
“We’ve run out of free food” OR
“We’ve run out of free beer” - It's okay, I wanted wine anyway. I mean, I'll always take free beer but I'm a foodie at heart.
Uphill course with perfect weather OR Downhill course and 100+F heat - Hills? I don't love them but I don't hate them. I wilt in the heat though.
Last place in the Olympics vs First place at every small local race this year - The Olympics would be such a cool experience. I'd be happy to be last if it meant going.
Straight out and back marathon with no scenery OR 26+ one mile laps - I hate laps. No scenery is better than laps.
Only Winter training for a Spring race OR Summer training for a Fall race - You can bundle up to run in the winter but there's only so many layers you can take off before you chafe or get arrested. I'll sacrifice the speed gained over the summer if it means I don't have to run in the heat.
Blink in every picture but your form looks perfect OR
Face looks great but form is schlumpy mess - I have enough of the former. I make a really awful face when I run (to the point where I now make sure to smile if I see people with cameras I smile. The face is difficult to describe. It's kind of like one side of my mouth is open to breath and the other side my bottom lip is pushed up. It's just so bad. I will accept schlumpy mess because at worst I could photoshop it with the ones I already have of my good running form.
Handed only money at every aid station OR get charged for water&fuel at every aid station - I generally carry my fuel and I own a camelbak that I could carry if necessary so I'll take the money.
WDW triathlon 2018 or
WDW marathon team relay 2018 - My friends aren't going down to do a tri with me but we'd have a great time doing a relay.
Wear a red sparkle skirt OR A pink sparkle visor - The red sparkle skirt is important to a good race. Just as
@FFigawi and
@DopeyBadger
QOTD: I don't think we have answered this one here before but what was your first race? What was the distance? Where was it? Anything else special about it?
I mean, the first race I was in was at 5 at my elementary school. The first race I ran was at a winery. It was a 5k, I was coming off a
Disney cruise from Europe. I had gotten in the day before. I ran it. The whole thing and was very proud of my 46 minute and change time because it was sub 16 min/mi.
QOTD: Vacation and running, are you able to stick to your plan during a trip?
Yes, if that plan is not running.
I am definitely a Glider.

I glide so much that I might be called a Shuffler.
I am very similar. I can it plodding though, it's less graceful.
A few non running related questions:
2. What makes a annual pass worth it? Benefits? Discussions have taken place on the 10 hours in the car Sunday... Looking for talking points on this.
This is the only one I can answer. It is worth it when the price of the annual pass is less than the price park tickets for the amount of time you intend to spend in Disney parks in a year. It usually is about 10 days for the WDW pass if you normally get park hoppers I believe? My friend usually does it when she's doing two races less than a year apart such as Princess 2017 and Marathon 2018 and spending days in the park before/after the races.
