The Running Thread - 2016

QOTD: With the Olympic games starting this month, what event are you looking forward to watching the most?
I will watch pretty much every event I get the opportunity to see. My favorite is generally swimming. Though gymnastics and track and field are also some favorites of mine.

QOTD: What are your goals as it relates to running for the month of August?
I just made a training plan for my half marathon in October so that takes one item off my to-do list for the month. Of course I'm a bit late but I just need to ramp back up my mileage following the summer slow down.
1. Follow my training plan.
2. Get more mileage. I currently have about 56 miles planned for the month which is a few miles above my norm when I don't have distractions.
3. Do yoga more consistently.
4. Take off that vacation weight.
 
My August Goals:

1. Just stay consistent about running 3 times per week
2. Stay consistent with strength training 2 times per week
3. Complete my August 8k with a faster time than last year (dependent on weather to some extent)
4. Get back to a weight I'm happier with (I'm at 136 and want to get below 130)
 
Thanks for the advice @DVCFan1994! I will definitely baby it and stretch as much as I can. I don't want to push it and be out longer. I hoping a week or two off of it with continued home therapy as mentioned above will help. Luckily I'm not a flip flop guy, I live in my sneakers! Thanks again!

I had it last year too. I kept running. Finally I went to the podiatrist and he told me it was my tight calves. I bought a thing to stretch them and rested for 3 weeks before it went away and now I need to stretch after every run and before I go to bed to keep it from coming back. I posted a link to the band I bought a couple weeks ago but I can give it to you later if you send me a PM. I'm just not home now. At the podiatrist getting my splint off and my new cast on.

It's my first look at the damage. Way worse than I expected. I was gonna post pics but I'm sure nobody wants to see that. :scared:
 
QOTD: What are your goals as it relates to running for the month of August?
Follow my training plan! My kids start school the middle of this month, so I'm hoping that it will allow more consistent running time (though DD is in afternoon kindergarten so that's going to be scheduling challenge).

I also hope to get used to the "slow running," and train at a lower heart rate for the majority of my runs.

Be grateful for my body and that it can move!
 

How do y'all time intervals when you're doing training? Every plan for beginners of course suggests to do x mins walking/y mins jogging, and that definitely works for me, but I just wanted to know what your favorite apps were (especially the ones that talk to you/work well when listening to Spotify!) or whatever other kind of methods. I don't want to have to count to 60 over and over while I'm trying to focus!
Before my Garmin watch, I used Runkeeper. As long as I was in the app when I started my music, it would interrupt to tell me when to walk or run.
 
QOTD: What are your goals as it relates to running for the month of August?

Man oh man, I go away for the long weekend and I'm like 5 or 6 pages behind! I'll try to get caught up but will start with the ATTQOD...

I just want to be able to run a marathon on August 21 after swimming 2.4 miles and biking 112 miles. Anything more than that will be gravy :)
 
QOTD: What are your goals as it relates to running for the month of August?

ATTQOTD:
1) stick with my current running plan/schedule ... even through vacations and business travel etc
2) prepare for my first 10k race in mid-August
3) work on my speed to hopefully improve my time at my second 10k race in mid-September :)
