I was waiting for this reply.

QOTD: What is the longest distance you have traveled for a race in terms of both miles and travel time?
Not sure this helps, as I don't use custom orthotics and don't know what/where your injury is, but I deal with chronic peroneal tendonitis thanks to an old injury and CurrexSole insoles have been a total game-changer for me. I cut them to fit and they don't budge within my shoe at all.He did say I may need orthotics. I think there was talk on this thread about them previously so my question is, does anyone have them and does anyone run with them? Don't they move around when you run?
There are two kinds of cyclists. Those that have fallen and those that will. It's kind of inevitable that sooner or later you'll crash or fall over. It's why you wear a helmet. Even zero speed falls in the parking lot can hurt.![]()
For those of you who bike how did you get started? It's not like running where anyone with sneakers can give it ago until they get good shoes/clothes/etc for it. I would like to do tris (I think I've mentioned that before) but not being able to touch my feet to the ground terrifies me (my childhood bike was evidently poorly fitted because I used my feet as brakes) so I don't really want to spend the $$$ on a bike if it's not going work out.

Spin off from yesterday's QOTD that I never answered... Shoes! I'm eyeballing a couple and thought I'd throw them up here and see what people think. I ran in the Brooks Ghost 7 for this year's marathon (and training) and it was fine: not amazing, not awful, but fine. I've got a pair of the Ghost 8s now and, again - they're fine, but not life-changing. I'm waiting to see what the Ghost 9s are like, but meanwhile... any thoughts on Nike Pegasus 32 and Brooks Launch 3?
I'm a total forefoot runner - like to an extreme. So Newtons feel amazing, but tend to mess with an old tendon injury because they reinforce that forefoot strike to an extreme. Altras are out because I need a higher heel thanks to that bad tendon, plus they're way too loose in the heel. The Ghost has done a good job of helping me land closer to midfoot, which is better for my ankles, knees and hips. But they're heavy. And bulky. And feel a bit like running in winter boots.

I would add the Adidas Ultra Boost ST to your list to try. I know, Adidas???
Before you buy the Edge Touring you should check out the Edge 520. You can load maps on it as well. Reviews on it are very good, check DC Rainmaker. The Touring's big flaw for me is lack of ANT+ or Bluetooth, meaning you can'r pair speed and cadence sensors or power metres with it. That might be totally fine for you, but it was a real surprise to me when I was looking at them.My next planned equipment purchase is a Garmin Edge Touring. It is more for getting out and exploring more places on my bike but will come in handy as I ramp up my bike miles.
