The Running Thread - 2016

My 7K today went great and I am so happy with my results! I feel like I paced myself really well (didn't try to go too fast even when I had room to) and ended up running my best average pace I have in quite a while (10:18/mile). And I even managed negative splits (probably because the hills that were on the course were early on).

I am just so happy about it because I did not expect this kind of result since my running has been kind of sporadic lately. But I felt really good and never really felt like I was pushing myself too hard. Days like this give me a lot of confidence and make me feel like I can keep improving as long as I stay consistent.

I ran my Irish Jig 5K this morning. It was frigging freezing - 20 degrees with the windchill - but the cold temps worked in my favor. I ran fast just to get it done and met my goal - official time 27:57. This isn't a PR but it's the fastest time I've had in a long while and the fastest in my forties, so I'm feeling pretty happy about that!

Also @LSUlakes my race next month (Gazelle half) is on the 17th, I totally thought it was the 16th until a coworker told me otherwise. Good thing or I would have shown up on the wrong day!

That's awesome! I had a confidence booster race today too! It feels great, doesn't it? :tiptoe:

Congrats to both of you on your runs! Always a great feeling to exceed goals and expectations and be happy after a run or race! Keep it up.

3,600 for the half (& 3,600 for the full) so decent sized.. As one who ran before and will run after their 5 year challenge im intrigued to see what happens after next year (final challenge year)

Their sister race excalibur jumped high this year- from 800ish finishers to 2,500 registered for its new 4 year challenge.. So yeah for them..

That is a good jump. I am in for the 4 year challenge. Picked up package from the store a couple of hours ago. Hope there is no rain tomorrow morning

Hi! DH and I are just getting back into running. Back in 2011 we worked up to the ability to run 5k although we never did an actual race. Then I broke a toe, got out of practice, got lazy, gained 20 lbs... :) So, a few weeks ago I got back on the treadmill. Right now a 5k takes me 45 minutes of running/walking. I'm hoping to be back in shape before Oct. so I can run the Castaway Cay 5k on our next cruise. As motivation DH and I just splurged on Mickey and Minnie RunDisney shoes off eBay. ;)

Good job rediscovering running and welcome. I'm not sure if you are doing the official runDisney Castaway Cay 5k or not but registration opens next month, just in case you didn't know. I don't think it sold out last year but I thought I would let you know anyway.

I didn't know they did an official race! Is it just one specific date? We are already booked on a cruise in October so I'll have to check if I need to register for that date. Thanks!

Add a 5K for me: Come See Me April 16.

Local race, very hilly but small and fun. :)

The official runDisney race is in January after marathon weekend. The only difference from what I understand is the medal but someone else might know more. I'm sure you'll have a great time in Octobe .

Having downloaded the DS race guide (just out of curiosity) I'm now getting seriously jealous of all those peeps going to the weekend. I love Star Wars but couldn't afford a trip out to the states so soon after Marathon Weekend. Might have to be my holiday next year...

This morning turned out to be a beautiful running day for NYC Half. Mid to high 30s sun and cloud. All that worry about snow for nothing. Lol. I had a great race. I finished and enjoyed the route tremendously. Running through TIme Square is awesome. NYRR does a great job with entertainment and the finish line goodie bag

Excalibur finish: 2:17:55 which mean sub 14:00 miles 13:47 to be exact.. Very content esp as not only had my first 12:xx mile in years- 2 miles were on sand that was not as hard packed as expected (thank you rainstorms!) and it was 70 degrees and humid..
Awesome job! That sand road was more difficult than anticipated! I missed my goal by 2 minutes, but given the conditions and a medical thing I had, I'll take it! And the bling was pretty sweet - dragon!! :)
