QOTD: Do you have a shoe rotation or just one pair at a time?

I run on one pair until they hit about 250 miles, at which point I start rotating in a second pair. At 350-ish miles, the old pair gets taken out of rotation and donated. The exception to this is where I break in a new pair for a race for 20-40 miles in the weeks before the race. It's always nice to run a race in fresh shoes.

QOTD: Do you have a shoe rotation or just one pair at a time?

Depends on the definition of rotation. I am extremely particular about my shoes and their comfort level due to past foot and knee issues (only Brooks Glycerin for me, right now), so I don't rotate shoe model/type.

I do keep two pairs of the same type in a "rotation", though. One pair I wear to work and use for my short mid-week runs. The second I wear on the weekends and for my long runs.

This setup has also proven beneficial for multi-run race weekends, especially rainy ones.

QOTD: Do you have a shoe rotation or just one pair at a time?

I started alternating last year. The first year I ran, I did it exclusively in Brooks Adrenalines. On a whim at an expo (of course), I bought a pair of Hokas. They were so different in cushioning and overall feel - and it turns out I love them for lower mileage runs. It took almost a month for my calves and ankles to adjust to a different pair, but now it's great. I think of them as my "fun" pair and my Brooks as my work horses.

QOTD: Do you have a shoe rotation or just one pair at a time?

I used to just wear a pair of shoes until they were beyond worn out (holes in the back at my ankle and almost no tread) because I HATE shopping for running shoes. Now I've been wearing the same Asics model for a while so I've been changing them out at more reasonable intervals, and I've started rotating in the new pair when the old pair is maybe 100 miles or so from being too worn to wear regularly. I do always keep one spare pair (even if it's too worn to wear regularly) in case of a rainy day so that I'm not stuck with only one pair of wet shoes for the next run!

QOTD: Do you have a shoe rotation or just one pair at a time?
ATTQOTD: I usually have two training pairs that I rotate. Currently I'm down to one training pair and a lighter shoe for races and some speed work.

I currently have 7 different shoes in rotation with a 8th pair waiting to be started. I have...

Triumph ISO orange (Easy)
Triumph ISO blue (Easy)
Ride 8 A (Tempo)
Ride 8 B (Tempo)
Kinvara 5 White A (Speed)
Kinvara 5 White B (Speed)
Kinvara 5 Black (Race Shoe)

All are at different mileages in order to maintain balance. I believe it helps me work slightly different muscle groups based on different drops/cushioning/weight/strike pattern as well as increase the shoes longevity.

QOTD: Do you have a shoe rotation or just one pair at a time?
I usually have 4 pair in rotation because I run a lot of miles and shoe companies change models so often. When I find a pair that works for me, I buy 3 other pair and those 4 pair become my rotating group. The two pair that are in the best shape from those that just rotated out become my cross-training shoes.

Also, I number the pair with permanent magic markers. It avoids the confusion associated with having 4 pair of shoes in my mud room that look exactly alike. I track mileage of each pair in a spreadsheet.

I have two pairs that I rotate, the ones I've had for a while that I'm currently using for long runs and the ones I'm breaking in that I'm wearing on short runs.

I had a pair of Hokas once. It's a very different type of shoe. I had to ease into them because they are very different from what I was running in at the time. They are very comfortable but I found I just couldn't get the miles out of them that I could with other shoes. They are also not the cheapest shoe out there, so for me I decided to go another route.

ATTQOTD: Shoes are my very favorite subject!!! I have, er... some. Shoes. In rotation. A couple just got put on permanent leave, though, so let's see...

Current lineup:
Brooks Ghost 7 #1 (almost worn out, need to switch to short runs)
Brooks Ghost 7 #2 (longer distances)
Brooks Ghost 8 (new, will be for longer distances)

Saucony Kinvara 5 #1 (speed work and tempo runs)
Saucony Kinvara 5 #2 (unused, bought on clearance as a back up for when pair #1 wear out)

Brooks Launch 2 (mostly for walking around, but gets pulled out for short runs occasionally)

I used to be a dancer and had like 20 pairs at one point only because I was a hoarder who never threw them away. Don't be me!
Lol, I'm also a dancer and totally understand this! I had a large pile of pointe shoes back in the day. ;)

ATTQOTD - I have 2 pair of Nimbus 16s I alternate every other day. I run 6 days a week and started the alternating about a year ago and really like it, especially as the mileage builds up. I just recently went up a whole shoe size too, and boy did that really help all the knee problems I was having. I actually had to change all my shoe sizes even non running, guess my foot is bigger than I thought and was fitted for in the past! Feet are a fickle thing for sure:)

ATTQOTD>Shoe Rotator. 3 pairs for me......
1 pair (NB) for short runs
1 pair (Brooks)for long runs (and backup for multi-event weekends)
and a pair (Brooks) I use for running events.

The running event pair will get demoted to the long run slot after I buy a new pair.

Agreed on all points - I won't go more than 5 in them, and they are so spendy, I'm not entirely sure I'll buy another pair.

ATTQOTD: I have 3 pairs of Asics Gel Cumulus 16's. I love this shoe but it is getting harder to find. I will need to buy another pair soon, so I may have to try the 17's.

I'm getting ready to go for a 10 mile run right now - so excited it's going to be a warm 40 degrees. Heat wave for January!!

ATTQOTD: Two currently in rotation for longer runs, soon to be adding a third. And one I use for track work.

I mostly run in one pair of Saucony Ride 7's, with an occasional short run in a pair of Saucony Zealots. My last few runs have not felt as good on my legs so I'm changing to a new pair of Ride 7's my next time out. Time to order another pair before they are all gone.

Sorry to jump back to the previous QOTD but a little tip I do for longer runs/races. I cleaned out a little Vaseline tin (they are Vaseline lip balms in UK don't know if it's the same for everyone else) and refill it with normal Vaseline. This then goes in my jacket/race belt and is very lightweight and the Vaseline can be used for multiple things-chapped lips, prevent blister etc. found this is lighter in weight than the smaller body glide and much more effective in preventing chaffing! Has been my saviour in recent times due to my sports bra rubbing on runs longer than about 13 miles.

Today's QOTD- I had 3 pairs but have retired two. Getting a new pair this week though! Both are Nike flyknit free 4s.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. This weekend we had our first race on the list. How did the race go @DOOM1001? When you get a chance let me know your finish time to update the list and make it official.

So today I went out for a run and stopped at Mike the Tigers habitat for DD to check out the tiger. Well in the process she accidentally hit save on the watch and I had to start another session when we got going again. Darn technology... Hate seeing one run split into two.
QOTD: Have you had any mishaps with your GPS that has frustrated you on a run/race?

ATTQOTD: see above.
