Cast List

Me: No introduction required, I suspect most of you know me by now!
DW: Long suffering DW of the above
Alex: 15 - Coaster and Disney freak
Laura: 13 - Style queen

I was up and awake very early this morning for some unknown reason – Alison and Alexandra woke up at about 8am.

The usual suspects had breakfast in the food court this morning as Laura’s first words were “I’m not getting up…….”

I had a toasted Ham and Cheese sandwich which was ENORMOUS – probably a good side of pig in that one. I almost had to dislocate my jaw to take a bite like some ancient reptile. The others all had the same breakfasts as the previous day and it came to about the same price - $19.

While we were eating the maid tried to evict Laura from the room but Laura managed to stall the lady in the nicest possible way. Anyway, after a bit of shuffling to and from the car (it’s so hot and humid today) we were on our way to the Beach Club Villas for our first taste of DVC by about 10am.

Alison checked in while I self-parked the car.

Alison here:

Well what a difference! The girls and I were met at the door and escorted to the front desk. There was a small queue (about two people!) and the chap that took us to the desk said he’d try to get us checked in at the concierge check in desk, but there was a queue there so we waited. He talked to us about the resort – and what was where etc.

He introduced us to the front desk clerk when it was our turn, all very very efficient. I was majorly impressed! Shaun had caught us up by this point, and it just took a couple of minutes to complete the paperwork, get room keys printed (with charging for all of us!) and it was all correct first time. Much better that the All Stars!

Our villa wasn’t ready (as we expected at that time of day) but they took our phone number to call us when it was ready. We left our valuables in a safety deposit box, and left the luggage with bell services, and walked to Epcot (that’s the first time we’ve ever been able to say that!) after having a brief look around the resort. We loved it and couldn’t wait to check out the room.

So, a few minutes later we went into Epcot for the first time via the International Gateway and straight into the United Kingdom.

Couple of initial snaps

And now a word from our sponsors: - Britain, Britain, Britain!... Land of technological achievement! We've had running water for over ten years, an underground tunnel that links us to Peru and we invented the cat!

Oh well, nice picture postcard image without the weather, ASBO’s and graffiti – LOL

After a quick dash past Canada, (no offence), we went into Future World, the place where we all want to be if the truth be known.

We all love Epcot – and always have done! There’s just something about it.

Our first stop is the fastpass machine for Test Track, then we went over to Imagination (it’s always so quiet here) and then to The Living Seas (I love the queuing area). Turtle Talk with Crush was full so we thought we’d skip that for another time (we never did get to do it this holiday!).

We were getting hungry by this point so went into the Land to eat in Sunshine Seasons.

We had 3 massive (but fairly expensive) sandwiches, 1 chicken Caesar salad, 3 sodas and 1 Powerade. Total cost was about $38.

All I really wanted was a giant pretzel and cheese but I’d gone to about 3 kiosks and they’d all sold out!

After lunch we did the Living with the Land ride then we popped into Mexico to do the Three Caballeros ride (we still prefer the old ride!) and while we were looking at the stalls/shops the mobile rang and it was the front desk at Beach Club saying that our room was ready.

Hooray! Room 441 it was. We decided to finish up doing the rides we wanted to do before heading back to Beach Club.

It was time for our Test Track fast pass now so we headed over there – excellent ride as always, even if we do know the narration off by heart!

We then tried the re-vamped Spaceship Earth (quite big queues here today) and we were pleasantly surprised. Dame Judy does a reasonable job on the narration and most of the original features were still in place.

Ok – this is one of those attractions that either evolves or gets mothballed and preserved as some historic item. Things must always evolve for each subsequent generation I guess.

As you exit you get to see where the bulk of the visitors came from – mainly from the Eastern seaboard and UK on that day.

OK – time to head back to the Beach Club to see what a ‘real’ DVC villa would be like (as opposed to the display one that we toured at Saratoga Springs). We picked up ice creams on the way to cool us down (very hot and sunny all day today).

We found our room – and wow, wow, wow! :thumbsup2

It was everything we could have hoped for (and more!) The room location is superb – one of the woods view rooms which was stunning. We could even see the Eiffel tower to the left of our room. We had a balcony off our room and there was another off the lounge. The girls had 2 queen beds in their room (which was what we’d booked). It really was the perfect room. (Except for the too many doors in the main bedroom /bathroom though. We kept walking into wardrobes when needing the loo!) We called Bell services to get our luggage delivered and that came within a few minutes.

Wherefore art thou Romeo?

The whole feeling of this resort is lovely – very quiet and classy in a Disney kind of way. We unpacked (only a bit as we were only staying for two nights) and headed on down to Stormalong Bay. The pool was very nice indeed and the large slide was excellent. We didn’t have to get a wristband as it was after 5pm by this time. We swam and went on the slide etc for a good couple of hours, then headed back to the room to get ready for dinner.

We decided to eat at the Olive Garden tonight. Despite the amount people outside it was only a 20 min wait as many people seem to be waiting for a takeaway.

The food was superb as always although we had a slightly dappy server tonight.

Me: Salad, breadsticks, chicken masala
Alison: Salad, breadsticks, shrimp primavera
Alex: Soup, breadsticks, ravioli
Laura: Soup, breadsticks, chicken Parmigianino (can’t spell that!)

The food was really so good and very good value for 4 adults’ meals – although I can’t find the flippin receipt now!

From memory about $60 or so maybe?

Drove back home and self parked as we could park close to the entrance by the quiet pool (didn’t seem much point in using valet parking when we were so close).

It felt wonderful to be wandering up to the villa – absolutely no regrets at buying into DVC!

We all sat and watched the Olympics for a while (which was getting a bit addictive!) before bed.

Glad you don't regret buying into DVC - could have been an expensive error!!!

That's the one thing I remember loving about BCV was how quiet it was and of course the proximity to the International Gateway.

Haven't eaten at an Olive Garden for years but I would love to try it again before too long

Looking forward to reading more.

Absolutely no regrets after being "ambushed" by the Stringers and Churchills a little while back! - LOL

BCV had everything going for it in terms of themeing and location.

The two bed villas have to rate amongst the best accomodation we've ever stayed in as a family, it's going to be the only way to go from here on in.

Ok, we had 2 x Inn View rooms at Vero but the trade off was the sea views which the two bed rooms don't have.

Phew! ;)

What did the girls make of it after years of being incarcerated in one room with their parents?

They're never going to want to stay in a room with us again Deb! Mind you - the feeling's mutual! :rotfl2:

I'm certainly having fun on your vacation. Thanks for moving us into such lovely accommodations.

Nice to see the BCV looking so clean and tidy in your photos as I've read a few negative things about the state of the rooms lately.

It's been a few years since we stayed there, but I enjoyed it very much.

Kev

WOW BCV looks beautiful and your room is gorgeous-great pics :thumbsup2 .x.

I have the exact same problem when staying in our DVC in that I always get up in the middle of the night to go to the loo (all that vokda!) and don't won't to wake anyone up by turning on a light and nearly always end up in the cupboard making too much noise!

We loved our stay at BCV as you can stagger back from the food and wine festival without worrying about cabs or buses.

great photos of the villas. looked a lot tidier than ours did.
