The River Rapids Ride has to be improved.

I just find it depressing. It's not the landscape I want on an amusement ride. The poaching story on the Safari has been greatly reduced, if not almost entirely removed. Changing the scenes would be nice for KRR too IMO - it was a nice try at education, probably just not the spot for it.

I never liked how heavy-handed they were with the conservation message at AK. You can talk about conservation without smacking you over the head with it. A theme park is supposed to be fun. And I do like AK, just not that part of it.

We can only hope that once giant smurf land opens, they will have enough attractions open to be able to do proper refurbs/updates on Everest and Kali.

While the themeing is very good, the actual ride is nowhere as exciting as Popeye & Blutos at Universal!

It's short but we love it, especially when we choose an overcast day to ride and are able to loop over and over. This past December we rode 15x consecutively to beat our previous record. Most would find this dull and a waste of park time but we had so much fun.

We got stuck on it once for about 20 minutes in the blazing hot summer sun and nobody got wet. :crazy2:
That has skewed the way I feel about it.

This same thing happened to us a few years ago! I thought we were going to have to be evacuated, but eventually it got moving again. Plus, since we had stored all our stuff in lockers, I couldn't text the other members of our party (who didn't ride) to let them know what was going on and that we would be late, and I didn't have extra sunscreen!

I haven't ridden it since!

We got so wet that even after changing to dry clothes we brought along, I was still so uncomfortable that we had to go back to our hotel and change.

I just feel its too short and quite boring. When its supposed to be a wild river ride.

I personally love that it's not a wild ride, it means that our entire family is able to enjoy it. And we personally all love it. We got soaked, but we also travel in summer, so we were dry in no time. It felt great, lol.

The thing that keeps me from riding it is that I don't want to get wet. I don't mind a little spray here and there but I see so many people coming off totally soaked. I have no desire to spend the rest of the day walking around the park like that. That happened to us at Disneyland but fortunately there we were just a short walk from our hotel and were able to go back and change. That's not so easy at AK.
I'll save you the trouble. I also hate getting soaked but decided I would ride it on our last trip. Even wore a poncho, much to the amusement of my family and the rest of the riders on our "raft". Well guess who got soaked? I mean DRENCHED. And the poncho did not do a lot to keep me dry - though probably dryer than I would have been without. And let me tell you, that ride was plenty long enough for me. LOL My family will be riding this without me going forward.

It's funny reading this thread. Two distinct criticisms of the ride.

First group says "It's too short and boring. It needs more drops, more splashes, more rapids"

Second group says "I don't like it because I don't like getting wet"

Just goes to show you can't please everyone. If you resolve one groups' criticism is makes the other one worse. If you make it bigger, longer, more splashes, people will get wet much more than they do now and I can only imagine the complaints. But if it's left as is, complaints about it being too short and boring continue.

Like I said before, sure, I'd love to see it get bigger, faster, wetter. That would be awesome. But given that it's easy to get on, and how hot it is in the summer there, I'm all for a quick cool down. I like it. I just can't understand the perspective of riding a water ride specifically designed to get people wet, then complaining you got wet. If you want to stay dry, don't ride it.

I agree. Just to be clear, I'm not complaining about the ride at all. I was just stating why I choose not to ride it. I think the ride is just fine the way it is.

The real problem is that it is so incredibly slow. Like, why? If I am going to get incredibly soaked, it had better be worth it and be fun, fast, and furious. Like, Splash Mountain - totally worth it. This rapids ride, though, is just a slow-moving attraction that happens to be under some showers that might drench you. Like, what's the point? I can get the same effect by swaying to and from in my bathroom shower.

Yeah...but it's a white-water rafting ride. There are certain examples and expectations set by the genre 20 years before they built it. They have an excellent rafting ride, built maybe 2 years later at DCA, which is very popular. Why did they build such a sucky one at AK? As is, it's a waste of time and space.

Agree.
I was shocked the first time we rode. It seemed very short, and I prefer my soaking spread out over the ride as opposed to one giant deluge.

To that end, since I'm in the "I don't like getting wet" category, I would prefer to not ride. The kids love it and DH doesn't mind riding with them. So when they went on their second ride, I enjoyed a tasty beer while waiting for them. I don't mind that at all. I don't know if they would want to change the ride, but they do love it.

I'm with you. Also on this trip, I finally did Splash Mountain with the family and I'm glad I did. That ride is not centered around getting soaked (could happen, but fortunately for me, it didn't) and it is such an iconic MK ride that I'm happy to take the risk to ride it.

Kali River Rapids is the only ride in the world where the queue is better than the ride.

I agree with the OP. The ride should be about three times longer.
The theming should be something less preachy.
Deforestation is primarily a South American issue rather than an Asian issue.

And I would prefer to get splashed rather than soaked.
IF we choose to go on this ride, it has to be the last ride of the day because everyone feels miserable after being soaked and everyone just wants to change their clothes.

We love the ride and it's a must-do when we go to AK in the summer.
