I have been watching the resale for a few years now and there are many more available at this time. But couldn't part of the problem be that the gas prices have priced some out of paying a monthly MF. Looks like there are many contracts that could have been a families full purchase. Many 150 or so up for sale.

Just a thought.

Well, we drive down about 4x a year from atlanta to orlando, about 400 miles each way.

Our minivan gets about 30 mpg, so it's about 1 1/2 tanks of gas to get there and 1 1/2 to get back, it's just not a big deal, moneywise.

My guess, is, actually, that people bought huge houses they couldn't afford last year and the year before during the market bubble, used interest only ARM mortgages, furnished the houses using Rooms to Blow's pay nothing forever financing, and now all of a sudden they're drowning in debt and the DVC's the first thing to go.

Or it could be the 2 price increases in park admission this year, or the two price increases for Dinner Shows, or the increase in food prices, or the large jump in dues last year, or the large jump in dues that I'm sure is coming this year .... it all adds up

And that is my point....I'm sure there are a LOT of things contrubuting to the increase in resales. We saw something similar right after 9/11/01. For some of us, the cost of getting there IS an issue. From Minnesota, we can fly, but the cheapest I've seen is $250, and most are around $350. We could drive if we wanted to spend nearly 2 days each way on the road....also not my cup of tea. Instead, we are only going to take one trip to WDW next year.

Forget it guys, he's a troll.

The real life kind that the kids put in a home as soon as they possibly can.
That's beautiful. I'd have some things to say but they wouldn't print them on here.

...I'll let rinkwide do it instead.

I think a cheese-grater to the ear would be preferable to a certain brusque posting style we've all had to deal with lately.

The only thing more fun than poking fun at closed minded people is poking fun at *angry* closed minded people.

And that's a terrible thing to do to a cheese grater; ears in the grater-they're really hard to clean. Almost as bad as dried Plah-Doh.

I'm sorry I'm the jalapeno pepper in your tapioca.

No, actually, I'm not.

Sometimes I wonder why I read these boards :confused3 .

bpmorley does not want to bring small children to the parks. Why can't people accept this?

Sheesh

You missed the part where some people suggested he keep an open mind about the idea and his response was, no.

I don't have a problem with people who HAVE small kids and KNOW it won't work for them to bring them to Disney. That's cool.

What's not cool is somebody that's so closed minded about what they want and how the world is going to work when they are a parent that rather than accept the advice offered by several people about the possible upsides, they're frankly snotty about the value of advice of people who've tried it and had very wonderful memories.

And when I share what wonderful memories we've shared in the park with somebody who basically poops on it, well, that tends to bring out my irascible side....

I understand. :thumbsup2 Both sides actually! :sunny: I don't have kiddos and the thought of bringing them to the parks freaks me out! So I feel for that poster.
But I wonder if I actually had children, would I succomb to the idea of watching them as a little one looking up at Mickey for the first time? Yes, probably. But no one could convince me of it but the child itself!

I do thank you for your resonse. Very well put  .

So your closed mind to his side is okay???

Baking powder? Exsqueeze me? I have no idea what on earth you're saying :confused3

I have a closed mind to his closed minded-ness?

And by 'accepting advice' all he had to say was 'gee, those were some nice stories, I'll keep it in mind,' rather than giving the big metaphoric finger to those of us who detailed the positive flip side to his limited experiences with kids at disney.

BACK ON TOPIC-
It could be those who added on to get the free passes, or other incentives and maybe take a large family trip who now want to go back to their smaller contracts- There are so many reasons it is hard to count- I myself am wrestling with the decision as to selling one of my contracts - It would pay off the amount left on it, pay off some other bills and maybe leave some to put in an account just in case the AKV rumor is true so I could add on 25 or 50 there instead of having this 150 point contract that I will have more MF on, etc. When I decided to do early retirement I thought I could get all these bills paid before the date but it is not happening fast enough. I would still have 370 points split between OKW(220) and BCV(150). It should be an easy decision but it isn't. I am sure there are hundreds of reasons (gas prices, hgiher heating costs, air fares etc.) people are listing these days besides the transfer issue - it doesn't even enter the picture for me and probably not for many others. I think the ripples if there are any are coming from many things not just one,

Take it easy out there! We live in a free country, remember and respect that :thumbsup2

Question for those still interested in the "rippling" effect...I don't understand why DVC does not have a proper tracking/reservation system for home resort points. From a financial perspective, how much would a reservation program with that technology cost them? I would guess far less than overbooking of points. That would eliminate the mess they've created for themselves, wouldn't it?

I have a dumb question that I hope has not been asked already.

Have we seen proof or has anyone been turned down for more then one transfer yet?

Sorry if a repeat question.

Hey folks, a reminder...this thread is to discuss if there has actually been in increase in contracts offered for resale, and possible reasons for such.

I'd like to post the DIS posting guidelines:

NO FIGHTING: Several Internet news groups are marred by the actions of a few selfish people who turn an otherwise positive forum into a soap box for their anger issues. Internet newsgroups are not moderated, and therefore, anything goes. These boards are moderated in an effort to keep the discussions appropriate to the topic at hand. Those who feel they can not abide by these rules are welcome to read the posts on the board, and respond via email to the person who posted the message. Messages that are argumentative or sarcastic in nature will be deleted without discussion.

STAYING ON TOPIC: The boards are named to reflect general topics. Please refrain from asking questions about park hours on the DVC board, or questions about the Caribbean Beach on the Trip Reports board.

We do not believe in censorship, and open discussions about various issues is encouraged. We ask that everyone conduct himself or herself with respect when speaking to other people. It is okay to disagree, as long as the discussion remains respectful of the feelings of others. Once a discussion begins to step over that line, the post in question will be deleted. In extreme cases, individuals who are not able to conduct themselves as responsible group members will be asked not to return.

So basically anyone that doesn't agree with you is close minded, angy or a troll. how mature.
