Ok - sort of caught up! It's so fun to read about your get together at BLT. It's so cool how quickly you all got comfortable with each other!

Glad you're still around!

We had such a good time and this was only the beginning!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Chapter 9. Chonies LIVE!

okay as a review...it's time to make your guess......which chonies did I wear on this day:

Answer is coming up shortly.

When we last left off, we (Winkers, DJay and I) were headed back to Pop to rest up before our DisMeet dinner. If you recall:
053.jpg

Saturday, February 6th, 2010.

So we left Epcot and were back at the resort around 4:00pm. I think we decided to take a cab to dinner at The Wave--brave choice I know, but it gave us a chance to relax before dinner. Dinner was scheduled at 5:35pm so we figured we'd meet up at 5:15pm. I tried to nap, but turned on the tube and plopped down on the germ infested comforter. I had to turn to the weather channel because I was very interested in the temps/weather for my Typhoon Lagoon day. As long as the temp was over 70 and it was only scheduled to be showery, then I would probably head over. Phew, the forecast for Tuesday was still at about 72 and showers in the afternoon. Typhoon Lagoon is a go!

I actually think I fell asleep for 15 minutes, but was woken up by BlueyedGirl at around 5pm saying they were already heading over to the Wave. I said we'd catch a cab and be over shortly. I got up and changed and then called winkers and we met in the lobby. We went out to catch a cab, but had to wait til one came. It was chilly outside so we went back in to wait:
054.jpg

Now if you're reading Winker's TR, then you know she has bad luck with cabs. We had an unfortunate and long ride to Kona Cafe that morning. If you want to read about that ride click the link:

Click here for Winker's cab story!

So as soon as we got in the van/cab, I found myself a bit nervous about what may happen during THIS cab ride..
055.jpg

As soon as we got in the cab and were on our way, Blue texts me and says that they are already seated. I texted back and said we were in transit and would be there as soon as possible. Fortunately, this cab ride went off without a hitch and we were at the CR in no time at all..:thumbsup2

The Wave is on the first floor of the CR and has a cool looking entrance that I don't have a picture of..:headache::rolleyes1 We met up with Blue and family and Rosie. They gave out gifts which I didn't have to give out myself... (did I miss that memo?;)) and we ordered dinner. We were all on the DDP, but I ordered soup in addition to my meal. Let me just say this now. I LOVE soup. I've loved soup since I was a little kid. My favorite Campbell's is Campbell's Chunky Steak and Potato Soup. I also like Progresso Lentil soup (Gas-o-rama). Don't you love the Pop tops they now have...am I rambling about soup? I also worked at Souplantation/SweetTomatoes for 12 years...I was in food heaven everyday...:cloud9:. If the soup is cream based, well...you know what happens to me, but I like soup so much that I'll sometimes sacrifice the rest of my day to have a bowl of...Broccoli Cheddar soup....

ANYWAYS....I ordered this Tomato soup....It was amazing. AMAZING. I think I made Cherie (blue) try it.
056.jpg

Dinner came. Many of us ordered the Filet. It was quite good. I think we all forgot to take food pix. so out the cameras came and one woulda thought a celebrity was walking through the restaurant the flashes were coming so fast...:)
058.jpg

Here are some people photos because after all they're more important than the food:
056.jpg

Oops sorry....soup picture again. did I mention how good this soup was?

Here is a pic of Cherie and Rosie

And the previously posted group pic:

Dessert came out. I liked the Cheesecake, but was underwhelmed with the other two

Of course, really nothing could beat:
056.jpg

After we settled the tab, I called Wendy to see where they were at. They were up in the room and said to come on up. So we left the restaurant and headed out into the lobby:
061.jpg

I had forgotten to take my chonie picture of the day (a theme that would come up again and again). So I grabbed Winkers and told her to take a picture of me the the chonies of the day....Which ones were they and do I drop trow to show you..............

Real life stuff

Families are dysfunctional each in their own way. My family is no different. I have a SIL that is "special". She is very negative and uses every opportunity to ridicule my family's beliefs and whatever else she can think of. My parents are very gracious and accepting, me--not so much. It just takes so much effort to be around her. I have only ever stood up to her once and that's because she was slamming our faith in front of my parents--not cool. My mom was impressed that I took a stand. She was at that family gathering last week, but as you can see-not in any of my pictures. I was also supposed to join them for lunch along with my parents on Friday, but just couldn't muster the energy to deal with so much negativity on my day off....I wish I could be around her, but she just says things that are hurtful..anyways just a little side note into my family.

On a happier note, here's a link to something that's happening with my dad. He was interviewed for the San Diego State University Alumni Newsletter regarding him receiving an honorary degree. Here's the link:

Article regarding my dad.

I had a busy weekend. Bible Study Friday night. Church Custodian duties Saturday day. Youth Core dinner, Youth meeting....Church......I was wiped out by Sunday afternoon. I got home about 2:45pm and was OUT by 3pm...I woke up around 7pm....now I'm wide awake. I'm talking right now to one of the friends I visited last year in China....

I think everyone can relate to this statement. I want to move back to Florida but I don't dare move close to my sister, she is always so negative. I told my family she would chew me up, and it is draining to constantly be around someone who can only focus on the negative. I always pray that her heart is turned around, and I have thicker skin. I still think it is safer to move to a different city though, maybe 3 hours away or more!:rolleyes1 Only thing is then I miss out on the rest of the family and all my childhood friends.

I have enjoyed reading your updates, very upbeat and positive!

Now THAT's drama.
my dad and I have a very strained relationship--typical of preacher's kids though.
That's an understatement....but fortunately, you're not the biggest rebel in the family

My SIL's attitude just sucks the life out of me. It's actually sad.:sad2: I would like to go visit them in Conn, but really do I want to spend time with her?
You better hope that your SIL, nieces or brothers don't read DIS or you'll have an even bigger cross to bear. We're thinking it would be nice to visit them someday in Conn if we ever make it out east.

I think because most people who were in camps that were not, say 12 years or younger, realize that history can't be lost so they are speaking up...:thumbsup2
It's the older folks who have passed but had the most memories of the camps. The ones who are left now (like my parents and in-laws) we're mere babies or didn't feel the hardship since they were kids in the internment camps. It was the parents (our grandparents) that suffered the most, being put into camps or race horse stalls in Santa Anita Race Track, lost their businesses and possessions, lost their friends, got relocated and separated from family members and had to restart the process of making a home and business again after being released from camp. My mom used to say that she wished my grandpa was alive when the Redress was awarded for the shear recognition of receiving an apology from the Federal government. Ah, but I digress

I am supposed to wear khakis or slacks...I'm a rebel.
I bet they won't hold their breath to see you dress up in business casual. You are such a rebel.:hippie:

Chapter 10. Derek begins his descent to the Dark Side called the DIS.

Now here's where I think Derek gets "infected" with the DIS virus. Everyone, Winkers, Djay, Rosie, Blue and her family were all as nice as can be. Derek is a very gracious host wherever he is. I think both he and Wendy have the gift of hospitality.
"Who is this saying these nice things about me and what have you done with my wife's cousin?"

Of course, Blue's son and Erin and Dylan immediately hit it off so they are off playing. Derek and Blue's DH have some bonding time.
I did connect with Blue's DH....he's super cool and wish we could have hung out for a brewski....but alas, we're both responsible dads....

Derek sees that all these peeps are as nice and "normal" as can be. You'll see as we spend more and more time with everyone that the "virus" spreads in Derek. I mean how can you not like Winkers, blue, rosie and djay? and the rest, of course, is history.
Yes, that's when the sickness first spread. I thought I had influenza, then the bird virus, but instead it was just the DIS virus. I had just assumed that the folks following Jordan's threads weren't normal...I mean, who would normally spend that much time to read all of the details about your trips? I was so wrong...

we all spend almost 2 hours there. We all head out. Blue and family head to the MK a bit before we leave, then Winkers, Djay and rosie and I walk over to the MK busses to head back to Pop.

Well you finally made it to the end of day 1. I can't wait for the rest of the story to play out...

I draw the line at going back 7 pages.

OK, here was my strategy. If I had known you actually chose your pants for a reason, I'd have put some more thought into it, but I went with what was closest for you to grab, being that you were running behind schedule. I thought you'd play the lazy card.

Ah well. 0/0. Which is worse than you're doing on my game. :lmao::lmao:

That's right! I don't think one person guessed the chonies with the dice. I wore these for good luck for my first day......

I never knew you were so superstitious. :)

I can see why Derek is a convert now. You guys had such a nice evening with them.

Super cool article on your dad. I can't imagine something like what he went through happening today. I'm glad they're giving him a degree but it sure took the lawmakers a while to make that one right!

Oh! And I love soup too. Never liked tomato though, until I tried it at a chain in Texas called La Madelaine. I was in love! And now I always have to try tomato soups to see if I can find another good one. Yours looked great!!! (the best I can find is Trader Joes with some Italian seasoning sprinkled in).

... this now coming from someone who DIS'es daily and says "hey, how come the boards are so slow tonight?" as he anxiously awaits his new imaginary friends coming out to play. :rolleyes1popcorn:::wave2::bitelip::hyper:

Great update! Thanks so much for what you said earlier about us being like family and visiting California. I have always wanted to visit Cali. Now that we are adults and can swing such a trip, we have a small child. I have been waiting for him to get a little older so that I can tour a lot of places. I am now realizing that it will take several trips to fit in all the things that I want to do.
We'd love to meet up with you guys in LA. I'm sure the kids would love to catch up with your DS.

Ok, back to this update....I think it's GREAT that Derek has been bitten by the Dis bug! We had such a great time with all of you guys. DS just LOVED Wendy & Dereks kiddo's.
We loved hanging out with you guys too. I only wished we had more time to connect. Next time, we'll have to plan more dinners together. Now that I'm an official convert, I guess our paths are likely to cross again:cheer2:

Isn't it funny how we let one person ruin the rest of our important relationships? Maybe it's more about us.....:confused3 I gotta figure that one out because I feel like I want to get to know my nieces better and that will mean spending time with her....

Thanks. I'm glad you've enjoyed the updates...:thumbsup2

Ah yes, now I will replace my real friends with virtual ones....:confused3
Besides, Wendy ends us taking all of my friends and leaves me having to find new ones.....she now connects directly with all of my college friends, their wives and kids.....and now she's moving onto my grad school friends, many of whom are now on her Facebook. But I see that it's a different story when I make friends with her friends......:love:Love ya hunny.:flower3:

Hi Everyone! Sorry I've been MIA again- I've been :laundy: and packing - Jim came home today from a week long trip and I'm off to convention in Vegas in the morning with 3 of my girlfriends!:yay: Don't have too much fun without me - what am I saying, I know you will!

DJay, try to keep Cherie away from the poles until I get back! :cool1:

Lucky for me that's true

I don't think they'd be caught dead reading this...

It was the only day where I actually looked at what I pulled out from the drawer...

It's a nice, unexpected gesture for sure. I know it makes my dad excited.

Did you see Melissa? One of the Disers has a husband that works for La Madelaine!!!!!!! Crazy huh. She said she would send me some!!!!!:thumbsup2

See, this is where I thought you were going to say how Derek was stampeded by all these strangers coming into our room. Hee hee hee. I too was surprised at his relative calmness over the fact that he now knows less than 50% of the people in our room considering he doesn't have the gene which creates in him the need to make friends with everyone around him (which I seem to do especially around his friends) and which Erin seems to have gotten as well. :sad2:

Erin and Uncle DJay:

I prove my point.

I'm waiting to make my guesses for your newest incarnation of the game. I'm sure I'll be wrong again, but it's fun to play.....:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I play the lazy card from this point forward, I'll give a few hints from this point on...

Ok, this is just the hugest compliment to the caliber of DIS folks. Since previously, DH has said that my friends aren't interesting enough to steal from me. Hee hee hee. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
