The restaurant you will never go back to...

It's not in Disneyland, but in Downtown Disney. We took our 6 kids to Rainforest Cafe. We had reservations and they put us near the entrance, so we were basically just in a regular, old restaurant with a fish tank. The music boomed so loud that we had to yell across the table to each other. The kids were bored. The food was excessively expensive, small portions (I usually take home half my meal at other restaurants- but not at rainforest.), and tasted bad. We will never go there again.

Our family LOVES RFC!!! We try to eat there every trip (and you can see in my sig how much that was! LOL) We always more then enough food, DBF and I shared every time and we left STUFFED! Yes, it gets loud in there but that's to be expected, you are in the rainforest after all. :)

Lucky Fortune Cookery

We loved the Luckey Fortune, it was sooooooooo good!!!!!!!

Really? I thought the rice was very mushy and the chicken very dry and rubbery. Like I had said in another post, in their defense, it was when it first opened, so they may have improved, but, we have NO desire to find out.

My spouse is part Japanese, and was raised with a rice cooker of good rice always available, it's hard to go back to eating overcooked Uncle Ben type rice. We only use rice from the Oriental Store and use fresh chicken and his grandmothers teriyaki sauce recipe at home, so, that may be the difference. My husband will eat plain rice with nori (edible seaweed) on it for a snack.

PF Chang's makes really great Oriental food though.

I don't begrudge anyone who enjoys it though, it's just not our cup of sake, haha.

Country Bear or Hungry Bear restaurant, which is counter service, next to the Pooh Ride. Horrible food. In fact, we threw away two entire meals that we didn't even take bites from because it was so cold and awful. (We had tried some of one sandwich w/ fries, so we knew). I am not a picky person either, so that tells you how nasty it is.

We, however were not in the rainforest area. When the rainstorm started I got up with the kids and walked to another part of the restaurant. There, you could only hear the rainforest sounds and usual people chatter. Where we were sitting we were blasted with pop music.

Our problem with the bad food and relatively small portions may have been due to "being cheap". My dh is a big guy and absolutely refuses to share a meal with anyone, so I got one of the cheapest entrees on the menu and suggested he get another of the same price point. Last time I went to rainforest 6 years ago I bought the one item on the menu without milk in it (left off the cheese). I wasn't too pleased then, but chalked it up to having no cheese.

To get a decent seat I think you've now got to buy the preferred seating membership.

We ate there last week. I had the turkey sandwich and thought it was good. It was supposed to be cold. Dh and ds1 had burgers. I didn't ask if they were warm or not. Both ate them without complaint. The other kids had chicken nuggets and managed to eat them. I had some of the fries and those were decent too.

I ate at The Pilot place in tomorrowland. I was going to stay away from it due to reviews, but family members insisted. The pizza wasn't the greatest, but it was not as bad as other pizza I've had. I would eat there again if I happened to be in the area.

I didn't even know they had regular deli-type sandwiches. It was a long time ago when we went, so maybe the menu has changed? As far as I saw they just had chicken sandwiches, burgers, and that type of fare. Limited selection. It was ages ago though...

I ate at Hungry Bear in September and thought it was fine...nothing special...but not bad.

Rancho Del Zocalo. It's been a really long time since we went there (probably about 7 years), and maybe it's better now. But the time that we went, our food was ridiculously salty and very cold. It was gross. Like I said though, it was a long time ago, and maybe it's better now.

Went there last December. It wasn't the worst Mexican food I ever ate, but it wasn't good, and way overpriced for what it was. I think you can safely still stay away.

We didn't have a horrible experience, but I have no plans to return to Napolini. The pizza was actually quite good, but the portions were small and the price for sodas was so high I think Disney would have blushed! I think the sodas were like $3.50 or more? Whatever it was, my mom and friend were both astonished. (Especially when you consider that the soda itself costs the restaurant less than a tenth of that.)

A slice of pizza and a soda was awful close to the same price as the combo that came with a salad. (We should have investigated that, as I didn't want a soda and my friend wouldn't touch a salad, but that meant I ended up paying $5 for a super-thin piece of pizza and she paid almost $10 for a super-thin piece of pizza and a soda.)

For $1-$1.50 more (a bit less if you have an AP) you can get a single slice of pizza at Disneyland or DCA. The Disney pizza is much thicker, generally has more toppings, and is not much smaller in surface area either (though I'll admit that if serving size had not been a factor, I would have preferred Napolini's pizza :) ).

Riverbelle Terrace is a no-go for us. Both DW and I thought the sandwiches were on par with a sandwich from 7-11 and priced outrageously.

As far as all the Naples bashing, we loved it. Definitely pricey. We made the mistake the first time of getting the "family" size pizza for $47 when in reality, it is similar in size to the large size for $20 less. We liked the crust, the sauce and toppings. The only thing we would have wished different was to have the pepperoni on top of the pizza so it gets cooked and crispy around the edges. We don't like our pepperoni under the cheese. I guess you could say we are "tops" and not "bottoms" when it comes to pepperoni on our pizzas. So apart from price, we enjoyed Naples quite a bit. In fact, a large pizza, water to drink and snacking on the bread and oil, it was one of hte most filling and least expensive meals at Disney or off property.

In general though, we think the food at DL is lacking compared to WDW. WDW has many more actual restaurants and the quickservice at the WDW resorts has great variety.

We went right after it re-opened, we never ate there when it was open at first only recently when it reopened. DBF had beef in the Korean sauce, DD10 (then 9) had the orange chicken, DD13 had the teriyaki beef and I had the teriyaki chicken, we also had the edamame. OMG it was so good!!! We all tried some of each others and they were all amazingly yummy! The rice was perfect, firm and not mushy, the meat was cooked perfectly and the veggies were not too mushy either. It was delish!! Especially for theme park fast food. :) We love PF Chang's, YUM!!!! I think it's probably our favorite but it's not close to our house so we rarely eat there.

I wish I had my own teriyaki sauce recipe tho, the stuff I get at the store just isn't good enough and we love teriyaki in our house.

You were seated by the big entrance fish tanks right? If you do go back ask to be seated upstairs, upstairs is cool. :) We are Safari Club members and we have been seated downstairs by those round tanks, we prefer upstairs. DBF and I get the free appetizer (the girls aren't big into appetizers yet) and share then we get one of the combos and share, usually Maya's Combo with ribs, chicken & shrimp. Definitely more then enough, but we aren't big eaters so maybe that's why. :)

And see we really like Rancho...I love the cheese enchiladas and DBF really likes the tacos. The girls like the chicken tacos too. It's definitely not been salty when I've eaten there, I have HBP (yes at 36 I was diagnosed with HBP LOL) and I try to avoid salty so if Rancho was too salty I wouldn't eat there, not cold either. Interesting how people can have such different experiences.

When I can get the recipe back from my daughter who stole it a couple of weeks ago to make for her fiance, I'd be happy to send it, haha. You would think I would have it memorized after all of this time, but, I don't. I know it has fresh ginger rout, sugar, soy sauce, orange zest and juice, and a couple of other things. Once I get it back, I will message you with it if you want. It's some of the best sauce I've ever had.

If you are looking for something somewhat similar, you can always google the recipe for the Honey Coriander wings from O'hana in the Poly at WDW. That's almost as good (and you can make it as hot or spicy as you like by adjusting the chili powder).

Good luck and happy saucing, haha.

It's definitely improved since then! I ate there around the time that you did (6 or 7 years ago), and, I agree...the food was greasy, salty, COLD and GROSS then. A couple of years ago, I was in the Park with a friend who HAD TO HAVE Mexican food, and, as it was a busy day in the Park, I didn't want to stand in another line at another restaurant. So, I observed that the taco salad actually looked good, and ordered that. And it was yummy! Since then, I've enjoyed the food at Rancho, especially the enchilada plate. I'm glad that the food has improved, because such a well-themed dining area was going to waste, IMO, back when Taco Bell would be considered "gourmet" in comparison

However, sometimes the opposite can happen, as it did with the French Market in NOS. I used to quite enjoy eating there; never had a bad meal until a couple of years ago, when they changed the menu. And, OH!, it was one of the worst meals I've ever had  . The cornbread was cold and hard, and the jambalaya was...and insult to Cajun/Creole food. Seriously, it was disgusting! Basically, it was a few small shrimp and some slimy bell pepper pieces swimming in a sauce that tasted like sugary ketchup mixed with water, atop of undercooked instant/"Uncle Ben's" type rice. And what made it even worse was that, for a couple of $s more, I could've gone next door to Cafe' Orleans and had one of my favorite meals: pommes frites, gumbo & Mickey Beignets  . But Cafe' Orleans was closed that day. Oh well, live & learn, I guess

IHOP on Harbor! For what you pay there you can do a character breakfast in the parks!

well it's good to hear that it has improved! still not sure i'd ever risk going there again and wasting the $ (not when we can drive outside the park and find great mexican food on practically every block), but i'm glad it isn't the same as it was because, as you said, it meant that a place with great potential was being wasted. and you are not kidding...i would have TOTALLY preferred taco bell over the crud we got at RDZ when we went, LOL!!!

your input about cafe orleans is helpful to me too, because i'm going to do a unit study of new orleans and associated foods/cultures/music/architecture, etc. (we homeschool) before our next trip in May, and wanted to get the kids some traditional cajun/creole food to try (and okay, i am committing myself to actually trying it too) in NOS while we are there. i'll definitely make sure we hit cafe orleans as opposed to french market. thanks! :)

The Denny's in Anaheim Fullerton East. OMG! I thought the cheeseburger was tasty, until the next morning, when I spent about an hour and a half exspelling it.
It was not non stop mind you, but all the same, it did take that long for it to be purged completely from my system. Oh my! The inhumanity of it. I am feeling a bit peeked just typing about it again. :faint: ......... Excue me now......

Thanks.

Thanks so much for your graphic description.
