The Rebels Welcome April and Spring!

Hi Rebels, it is finally Friday!

This week has been a challenge to get my scheduled training in. I was planning on going out this morning to make up for yesterday, but it was raining this morning. I kind of wish now I braved the light rain and got the miles in.

My lungs seem to be back in good shape again. I wonder what that was all about. I also weighed myself this morning, expecting to see some weight gain (I have been eating everything in sight). To my pleasant surprise, I weighed in at 225lbs (255lbs August 2009), down another 5lbs from last week’s check.

Sailors_wfe – Great job on the 10K! I hope you will be able to run in the Wine and Dine Half. It interferes with my marathon, which is on the same weekend. However, I did ask my sister (who lives 7 minutes from the park) the other day if she is going to run it, sounds like she is. I would have loved to have done it with her. Although, we are going to do the WDW marathon together in January as I try to get my Goofy medal.

Liam – Good luck with your marathon! Let use know how it went.

Have a great weekend Rebels!

Where did everyone go?:confused3

Another 3 runs and 3 swims this week. Over 2000 yards today, but it doesn't seem to alleviate my fears about the open water swim in 2 weeks. Runs are up to 35 minutes. I rode my bike 5.5 miles last Saturday with a 5 minute run after. Will ride again tomorrow, probably about 8 miles with 6 or 7 minute run after. I entered the lottery for the Nike women's half, but got notification today that I didn't get in :sad1:

Have a good weekend everyone!

I'm still here. Nothing really eventful to report. I've been continuing my walking regiment, 3-4miles, every day. I would like to keep my pace going and maybe even increase my speed some. I am still contemplating the Disneyland Half so that I would qualify for the C2C medal but need to keep working on hubby about that endeavor. Wish me luck because I really want to do it. Also still working on DD to do the January Half at WDW. I think I have a better chance at convincing her. Anyways, still plugging along with the healthy food choices and my speed walking.
Have a good weekend everyone.

Hey James! - Can't wait to hear how your marathon training is progressing. Sorry to hear that you are having some lung issues too but it sounds like it might be getting better? I am glad to hear that you are out running again - it is so hard when things are not right.

Great job also on your weight loss! Sounds like you are doing really well with your running and your diet.

Virginia - Way to go on completing your first 10K! I think the time is great!:thumbsup2 I hope you are able to convince DH to do the Wine & Dine Half...I think that all the Disney races always sound so great! Good luck trying to plan a trip that fits in with your budget!

Liam - Hello! I hope your training is still going well. I can't imagine how tired you must be...I get tired from my runs and they are so much shorter! :rotfl2: How was the London Marathon? I bet it is a great event to go watch. I think it is really inspiring to watch other runners and cheer them on!

Hello Tiffany - I think we have all been off the boards some for various reasons. Hopefully we can all get back on here and there to help support each other through the spring/summer race season and all the training that goes along with it.

Sounds like all your training is going really well. You continue to amaze me with the swimming, running and biking! Keep on training for that open water swim and let us know how it goes - I am sure you will do great with all you have done to prepare for it! :thumbsup2

Gretchen - Your walking 3-4 miles every day...Great job! I bet your speed is increasing with all the practice you are getting. I hope you are able to figure out how to qualify for the C2C medal, it would be a really cool accomplishment! Great job on all the healthy choices you are making.

AFM - I am sad to say that I am still struggling with the cough. It was a long, hard week. The first part of the week, my cough was the type that was hacking and burned in my chest. Towards the end (and still right now), it is the just constant cough but at least it has all loosened up and it doesn't hurt anymore. I am trying to make smart choices with my workouts because I don't want to do more damage then good.

Here is what I was able to fit in this past week:
Biking: 12 miles
Running: 12 miles
Cross Training: 40 minutes

Today was the first time I felt good enough to really run. DH and I ran 6 miles in 1:06. We did have to stop and walk for .25 miles at one point because I started coughing but overall, it was the run I have had in a long while where I did not feel horrible.

Hope everyone else is doing well! Have a good one!
Jen

Hey, Rebels. I'm sorry I've been MIA, but I had some personal issues to work out. It appears all is well, so I hope to be back for good. :thumbsup2

It sounds like everyone is doing really well with their training/exercising/routines.

Diana, you're so funny with your go habs! on every post. That's team dedication! :rotfl:

cwnhokie and Jen, congrats on your races! PRs for both of you, that's awesome!

Christy, congratulations on your first 10k as well! Fingers crossed that you can make it to W&D in October. I'm excited about doing an evening race. We won't have to wake up at areyoufreakingkiddingme o'clock in the morning!

Liam, your marathon is getting so close. Are you excited?

James, congratulations on the weight loss. That's amazing! Sounds like you're training is allowing you to eat more and still lose weight. I think that was the best part of training for my half!

Tiffany, it sounds like you are on a roll with your training. Is there any way you can do a practice swim in an open body of water? Just to help alleviate some of thse butterflies? At any rate, I bet once you're actually there, with the other swimmers, you will be just fine. Sorry you didn't make it into the Nike race. :sad2:

Gretchen, it sounds like you are doing great, too. And good luck on convincing your hubby to do the DLR half. I would love to get the C2C medal, but Cali is so far away from me that plane trips are way too expensive. But keep prodding that hubby and I bet he caves! ;)

Jen, so glad you are starting to finally feel better. Did you ever see a doctor and get some meds? That cough does not sound good at all. And even with that, you still managed to fit in all that training. You're a wonder woman!

I hope everyone has a great week, filled good choices and good fun! :cheer2:

Hi Rebels!!!! Sorry that I haven't posted in sooo long the kids have been keeping me extra busy and with the FL sunshine finally showing up we've been enjoying some outside activities. I did a 5K this past weekend and this is my race recap if anyone is interested... http://slowmomrunning.blogspot.com/2010/04/beaches-chapel-run-with-lions-5k.html Hubby and I ran this one together and what I mean by together is we ran the same race, lol. He's much faster than I am but that's okay I still finished. My running has been without vigor since the Princess Half so I've tried to do some different cardio to change it up and hopefully get that spark back. I've been going back to Jazzercise which actually really helps my running since it's a lot of leg work, cardio, and strength. Also doing some Jillian Anderson Shred, so many people have raved about it and I have to agree.

Congrats to everyone and their recent accomplishments! There is some serious training and racing going on around here!!!! Is anyone else doing the Expedition Everest Challenge in June? I am so excited! Turning it into a girls only weekend!!!

Promise to post more often. I know I'll find motivation within the group to get me training for that fall 1/2 marathon that I have my eye on!!!

Have a great week everyone and happy training, racing, and recovering!

I am going to EEC for a girls weekend too. Trying to come up with some tshirt ideas now. We are getting really excited.

Andrea - Good to have you back too! I think a lot of us were MIA. Sometimes it is difficult to keep up with life and the boards!

Shawna - I love your blog! I also love that you run in skirts too! Yours was so cute and I am going to have to look up the brand because I am in need of some new skirts that fit. Great job on your 5K this weekend, sounds like it was a nice run even if the route was a bit boring. Just have to say that my dream is to live in Florida and when you post about the sun being out...it makes me want to be there even more. DH and I are always talking about just packing up and coming to Florida to teach!

cwnhokie - Have you posted on the DISigners thread about t-shirt ideas? There are some people there who make great designs that have to do with Disney. We often have them design t-shirts for our trips.

AFM - I did not run yesterday...probably should have but didn't. Instead, I biked to work and home (6 miles total). My class also had a field trip yesterday at a regional park to do some fossil hunting so I was out hiking for 3 hours with a backpack full of rocks! It was a good workout.

My plans for today are to bike to work and home again. DH and I will also be running for sure tonight. I would like to do 4 miles but we might only do 3. I am STILL coughing. I have not been to the doctor but if it does not go away by Friday, I might give in and go.

Have a great Tuesday everyone!
Jen

Jen, I'm still coughing too. I think it's just something that hangs on forever. The kids had the cough forever too. My MIL saw something on tv about a fungus that causes a cough, maybe that's it. Who knows?

I have had shirts designed by the DIS designers before, they do great work. I haven't asked for this trip yet.

Hi all,

I had a great time watching the London Marathon on Sunday. A friend of ours who was supposed to be running had been on holiday at WDW over Easter and then got caught in the volcano chaos. After an extra week in Orlando he managed to get the last seat on a flight to Glasgow in Scotland on Saturday and then got a flight on to London arriving back on Saturday evening.

We were lucky enough to spot him at the 22 mile mark and seeing him and all the other runners really fired my enthusiasm.

I have my last long run at the end of this week (22 miles) and then three weeks tapering until the marathon. Yesterdays run I felt great (4 miles at 6:45 min/miles) but today felt really hard (7 miles at 9:45 min/miles). On days like these I feel like I have too many miles in my legs.

Keep on running everyone,

Liam

Liam, you are going to do amazing in your race. You are well prepared both physically and mentally. You are going to rock it!:woohoo:

cwnhokie - I think you are right about the cough that hangs on forever. While my cough has been getting better, it just lingers. I hope both yours and mine will go away soon!

Liam - I am so glad that you had a good time watching the London Marathon! It is great that you were able to see your friend running. I bet you are excited to start tapering process. It means that you have almost completed all your training and that you will be ready for your race. Way to go!

AFM - I have been struggling with my own running...or the lack of it. Life has been so busy and it seems like each time we mean to go out and run, something else has to happen and so we skip it. Tonight will HAVE to run and we have made sure that our schedule for tonight is a bit easy.

On a positive note, I have been biking to school this week. Here is what I have done so far this week:
Monday - Biking 6 miles
Tuesday - Biking 4 miles

I am on my way out the door to work and so that will mean 6 more biking miles tonight.

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday!
Jen

Swimming today, can't remember how many yards our coach said. Starting to feel really tired and may make my taper a little longer than 2 days. Maybe just one swim next week on Monday and one run on Tuesday and then that's it.
I ordered a new swimsuit, I just think it is so funny! It's also the truth!

Tiffany - :rotfl2: I LOVE that swimsuit! I need a running shirt with that on it! :rotfl2: You have done so great with your swimming - you have trained and you are ready! When is the race?

AFM - I had a pretty active day for me. Here is what I have done:

Biking to Work - 3 Miles
1 Mile Run - 8:46
Biking Home from Work - 3 Miles
3 Mile Run - 30:30

The 1 mile run was with my students. They had to run their Presidential Fitness run today and many of them wanted to be sure they qualified so I said I would run with them and pace them. I ran and cheered them on the whole way. All but 1 in the group I ran with were able to qualify. It was a tough run for me too because I normally run 10+ min/miles.

I would still like to do some sit ups or other core type of workout tonight because I have been doing so good with the weight loss but still have a belly pudge.

I am working hard on drinking water and tracking my food too because I am hoping for a good loss this week for my weekly weigh in.

Have a great night everyone!
Jen

PS - Andrea...could you add my 1/2 marathon to our schedule? I am running the Minneapolis Marathon (only doing the 1/2) on June 6th. THANKS! :goodvibes

Jen Wow! 8:46 that is fast! I'm also a 10+ per mile, but getting faster thanks to the swimming! Ran a 10:07 the other day and was thrilled!

Race is Saturday May 8. Feeling worried about the clarity of the water, I've heard Tempe town lake water can be nasty! I'm a little behind on the bike, race distance is 13.5 miles and I've only ridden 8.5 miles. Will do 10 to 14 this Saturday depending on how I feel. A few more runs, a couple of swims and it will be time!

Jen, that's great that you ran with your students, what a great role model for them

Tiffani, good luck on your race. I've been reading along with your training, can't believe it's time.

JEN - your time is so good. It was great you ran with your students. Good luck on your weigh in.

TIFFANI - you have trained so diligently. You will do great. BTW, I love that swimsuit. I, also, would like a shirt with that design.

AFM - still trying to keep up with the walking and diet. I feel like the weight loss is slowing down a bit so will try to work on that. Just got my hair done today with a new process for curly hair. I really do like it a lot. Was in need of a pick-me-up this week.

Anyway, best to all and have a great finish to the week along with a wonderful weekend.

Tiffany - You are almost there...I bet it feels great to be able to count down the workouts that you have left. I don't know much about doing a tri, is there a time that you are shooting for?

I thought I was going to die running the mile that fast but I wanted to be sure my kids who wanted to get their awards made it. It was so worth it!

cwnhokie - I have really been trying to be a good role model for my students. I have shared with them all about my decision to be a healthier person. We have talked about how my goal is to be healthy and in eating right and exercising I have lost weight but the important part for me is to just improve my life. I share with them my running accomplishments all the time. It is kind of fun at lunch to hear them talk about making their lunches that they pack healthier!

Gretchen - I was really worried about running with my kids but I know that DH and I can often run the first mile in the low 9 minute range. I figured since it was only one mile I could totally push myself for them. It was really fun to help so many of them reach their goals!

AFM - Well, today I took the day off. I had wanted to do a short run but found out about a job opening so I worked on my resume and got everything ready to turn in tomorrow. I need a new teaching job next year and this was for a 1st grade position at a really good school. So, I skipped the run and know I will have to run tomorrow instead. DH and I have not figured out if we will do our long run on Saturday or Sunday.

Hope everyone has a great Friday! Night!
Jen

Hi Rebels, I am still here and I am enjoining our conversations (even though I am doing more listening than participating).

So far, my training is going as planed. Tuesday was 4 miles and Thursday was 3 miles. Thursday was speed work and I managed to walk my fastest mile yet, 12:36. Tomorrow is the weekend long walk, which will be only 7 miles this week.

As for the mileage totals for this month, I did not do so well this month. However, I did squeak out 40 miles, which is not too bad.

Have a great weekend Rebels! :)

James - Hello! Good to hear from you! You are a FAST walker...your time is great. When DH and I walk, we are so slow but we both are working on it since we plan on doing a run/walk routine when we do the 1/2 marathon in June.

AFM - I wanted to bike to work today but we were expecting some wicked storms so I didn't bike. I did come home and do a 3 mile run...of course as soon as I got out, it started to rain.

I like that James posted his total miles, thought it was interesting, so I thought I would do the same...

Running = 48 miles
Biking = 34 miles
Walking = 2 miles

Total = 84 miles for April

My goal is to have way more miles for May. I think that I kind of slacked off for a couple of weeks because of my allergies and the cough I had. It is time to start picking things up again.

Have a great night!
Jen
