I always thought that Jesus is the reason for the season, and I think about that every year.

But today I was in Target and they have all their Christmas decorations up, and a lot of Christmas merchandise up for sale. I comment to DW about it and she informs me that Santa is going to be at the local mall starting this Friday.

Huh?

I thought it was always Thanksgiving before the Christmas stuff was up, what's with having them up after Halloween???

So now I figure I need to change my saying to

Retail is the reason for the Season

It not my reason either, so thats why I do get the presents done early, so I can enjoy the month of December instead of going crazy..... and taking away from the moment.

Its not my reason either.

Santa was at our Wal-Mart on Saturday!

I agree that retailers have their reasons and I have mine.

It's a beautiful time of year and is cherished in this family....

What is really bad is the decorations were up before Halloween :( What is up. Did us consumers do this or are the retailers to blame????

The $$ are not the reason for the season in our home. We try to teach our kids the true meaning of Christmas but it's hard. We've been seeing Christmas items for a while now in our area. I'd like to see the retailers go back to the traditional day after Thanksgiving. I think it's okay to do the sales a head of time but I'd sure rather see the decorations go up after Thanksgiving. Just my opinion!

Ditto on the comments about the reason for the season, not mine at all.

Matter of fact...we are going to enjoy our Christmas present to each other early this year (our trip) and then we will spend time with what few family members are left and really slow down to make memories, do more things together.

My boys are old enough to appreciate this, and we all decided this is what we wanted this year. Our little family(DH, DS, DS, and me) has been thru its ups and downs for 16 years but we have managed to finally get it together and we want to relish this time we have left. Who knows when it may be our last.

There were things I didn't do when they were growing up because I thought they were stupid and childish (I was the stupid and childish one) and now, I want to have these memories.

Peace to all.

Debbie

I was out buying halloween candy at the grocery store on halloween and there was very little left, only a small shelf (which I had expected, since I waited until the last minute.) But what I didn't expect was that the rest of the shelves had Christmas candles, tinsel, garland, ornaments, etc.

Costco has had their Christmas aisles fully stocked since the beginning of October. It's a little hard to get in the spirit of buying reindeers and mechanical santas when it's still 80 degrees out!

I agree, retail is the reason for bringing the merchandise out so early.
