The real Melbourne DISmeet Fri 7th October 2016

Minniemum, would have been great to drive 10 hours down the Hume, but I live in Perth currently LOL. Have been here since April 2012, but am hoping to be back in Sydney by Dec/Jan :-) Did you all have fun?

The July DisMeet (Melbourne Chapter) - Open House Weekend

It is our 6 month anniversary of 2013 DisMeets in Melbourne! We're a regular meeting Chapter now.

All the usual suspects were there, including MinnieMum....stage left.

Oodles of noodles were on the menu for this(Dis) Meet.

The Combination Laksa.

The Chicken Laksa.

The Assam Laksa.

The soupless Char Kaoy Teow.

We decided that today was a day to indulge. So, we all went with something sweet for afters.

Banana Fritters......

....or Goreng Pisang. Take your pick. :rolleyes1

A not so wobbly as *some* Mango Pudding.

The Chendol.

And as the regulars in chapter were there, we did pretty much spent lunchtime filling up another complete shelf (and no one point out that we're probably as old as these tomes!!!)

Two of us had recently returned from non-Disney trips and it was great catching up on travels, family and life!

Another great meet.....and thanks for listening to me gripe about my work!!!! :goodvibes

Here's to August.

OK you're off the hook. Perth is a little bit too far but when you move back to Sydney... there's no excuses :lmao:

The august August DisMeet - Melbourne Weather Strikes Again

Last night, the Melbourne Chapter held another Dis-Meet.

We had originally planned to grab some fish and chips and watch the fireworks at the Docklands; but Melbourne weather had other plans.
It turned out to be one of those typical '4-seasons in a Melbourne day' day. We started the day in beautiful blue sky and sunshine; followed by the wind; then the clouds and eventually the rain. As a consequence of the 60 - 100 kmh wind gusts, the fireworks were cancelled.

But the Melbourne DisMeet still went ahead. We adjourned to a nearby eatery for dinner. The service left a lot to be desired and I doubt we'll be returning here in a hurry.

This DisMeet was a little different - it included partners and kids. As a consequence, there will be no pictures of this DisMeet. It was a unanimous decision on the night.
As always, the conversation flowed all night and we invariably talked about travel. We also spent a bit of time finding out about real life, kids and work and it would seem that we've had our ups and downs this year.

We've maintained a monthly meet all this year and despite the fact that a number of us have September trips planned, we have agreed to hold a virtual DisMeet in September.

You'll just have to wait and see what we've come up with; even if it drags on into October.

A Little Disney Magic at Home – Mickey Pancakes

A number of years ago, I posted about making Mickey Pancakes at home to keep the Disney Magic going. If nothing else, making the pancakes always brings a smile to my face because of treasured memories of when and WHERE we would be eating these delights. I’ve always found them to be a great way for my family to talk about shared memories.

At a recent DisMeet, Zaccy asked for my recipe. I had figured it would be as simple as coming back to the Dis and doing a search on selected key words. Turns out that assumption was wrong!

Seeking that recipe and that post turned out to be like looking for a needle in about 68,500 posts! Okay….I probably could have looked a little harder; but it seemed like the perfect opportunity to whip up another batch!

So Zaccy - here's the recipe!

My starting ingredients:

  • Self-Raising Flour, 1 cup
  • Egg, 1
  • Milk, ¾ - 1 cup
  • Pinch of salt
  • Oil, 1 teaspoon

Mix the egg and milk with the flour. Add the salt and oil. I started out with 3/4 cup of milk and found I needed to add a little more to get it to the right consistency. The consistency of the mix should feel like thickened cream.

Heat a pan on medium/low heat, place the Mickey pancake mould and add some oil in the middle of the pan.

Add enough mix to fill the mould to at least half-way.

I let the batter cook on the medium/low heat until it bubbles quite a bit before removing the mould.

Flip over and cook on the other side.

Keep cooking until all the batter is finished. With the quantities in the recipe, I can get 6 pancakes.

DS loves his with just bananas.

I love them with banana and strawberries.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the recipe PIO, they look delish :thumbsup2 Any suggestions for those without Mickey pancake moulds? :rotfl:

As always, I enjoyed catching up with everyone - didn't feel like I'd missed any DisMeets at all!

Unfortunately, I came home to find the power out again :sad2:

Glad you got home safe; but not good that the power was out. I hope you weren't without power for too long.

The same recipe holds for standard pancake. I would add a little more milk.
