The real Melbourne DISmeet Fri 7th October 2016

Celebrating the start of Winter with a Melbourne DisMeet

Winter is the coldest season of the year in temperate climates, between autumn and spring. The name comes from an old Germanic word that means “time of water” and refers to the rain and snow of winter in middle and high latitudes.

It is caused by the axis of the Earth in the respective hemisphere being oriented away from the Sun. Different cultures define different dates as the start of winter, and some use a definition based on weather, but when it is winter in the Southern Hemisphere it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere, and vice versa. In many regions, winter is associated with snow and freezing temperatures.

In Australia, the official start of winter is 1 June. What better way to celebrate than with a DisMeet?

Who's in?

(And apologies to Fairy Floss - I believe that the timing of this meet may not suit. We can have a special DisMeet when you get back, with your photos!! :goodvibes)

Love it! Did you also write Melbourne's new slogan - Melbourne and winter. Go together.

Fingers crossed it's Melbourne.

The Start of Winter DisMeet

The start of winter…..and it was a rainy day in Melbourne.

And it just felt like that with the start of winter, everything had that serious note about it.

It was just the day for another Melbourne DisMeet. The usual suspects were there….except for Zanzibar (We missed you!).

Our….er….my choice for the meet was a Vietnamese Pho shop in town. It isn’t an upmarket establishment; rather more a Cheap Eats place. With the rain, it was the perfect day for some noodles.

Whilst we were contemplating our options, we had some Vietnamese spring rolls to share. You have to dip the spring roll into the dipping sauce and wrap it in the lettuce before eating.

Two of us had the Rare Beef Pho. Surprisingly, the picture shows the beef more rare than it actually was. And by the time we mixed it into the steaming hot soup, the beef was just about cooked through. The broth had a pretty full bodied-taste to it.

One of us had the BBQ pork soup noodles.

And the last person in the party decided on a soup-less dish.

After lunch, we wandered to one of the laneways that Melbourne is famous for to get coffee and dessert.

After some debate, we decided on churros.

I think NOT. The churros were crunchy on the inside and crusty on the outside. It was a bust. We will NOT be back to this place again.

We never got round to taking a picture of us. Afterall, these meets are more like catching up with girlfriends now; rather than DisMeets with comparative strangers.

Sounds like you had a great time despite the rain :thumbsup2 And pretty disappointed I had to miss out on that yummy looking Vietnamese spread. I hope someone had a spring roll for me ;)

We love Vietnamese Pho-next trip to Melb I must get you to tell us where to go. Glad you had a nice catch-up.
