The real Melbourne DISmeet Fri 7th October 2016

I want to come to Melbourne today. I'm getting homesick. At the moment it is looking like a Christmas trip for me. :(. Love Chinatown. Have fun. Take care of AussieWendy. :hugs

Wish you were here too.

Maybe we'll get to catch up at Christmas.

The April MelBriz DisMeet - Let's Go Yum Cha!

Today, we went to eat Yum Cha for the DisMeet. We had a special visitor from Brisbane.....Aussie Wendy in our midst.
Also present to celebrate the MelBriz connection was Zanzibar, MinnieMum, FairyFloss and myself.

Aside from MinnieMum, off-camera was Aussie Wendy's DD, MinnieMum's DD, my DH and DS. We ended up with a table for 9.

Perhaps we....er....I over-ordered; a little.

Here's some of the food we ate....and there is quite a few more pictures than normal; but Zaccy did put in the special request.

Aussie Wendy – Thanks for making the trip down south. It gave us another excuse to get-together and talk about travel plans.

Thanks again PIO for organising this - had a lovely time..... I'm STILL full!
It was lovely to see you all again.
Also, thanks everyone for your tips re my upcoming trip

I so wish I could catch up with you guys more often. I feel bad for not being there :sad1: Sounds like you had a good time, as always

Thanks for organising PIO. I had a great time! Although I'm not sure what I'm looking at in the picture :rotfl: The food was delish too :thumbsup2

Great to see you all again, and to meet AussieWendy, mini AussieWendy, Mr PIO, and mini Mr PIO!

AWIDY and Caroline - let us know whenever you're in town and we'll try to organise something. I'm loving these DISmeets!

Yum, yum, yum. I love Yum Cha.

All those delicious dumplings, steamed pork buns, and egg custard tarts are making me hungry.

Great choice of restaurant PIO! I think we need to rename this thread "The Melbourne Disers Food Blog by PIO". Your photos have me drooling, thinking I wish I was there. Lucky me, I have been every time!

As our guest of honour, it was lovely to meet you Aussie Wendy and your DD. Please let us know what you thought of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra's POTC performance. I'm also subbed in and looking forward to reading all about your European expedition in 5 weeks!

To another couple of newbies rounding out this family friendly catch up - Mr PIO and mini Mr PIO. Mr PIO it was good to meet the man who diligently nods in all the right places when PIO utters the word Disney! A special thanks to mini PIO for the gaming tips, my DS is off and running.

Fairy Floss - I can't believe the next time we see you, you'll have had 2 separate trips to 2 different countries. Maybe we should book in 1/2 a day for that DISmeet! How did you get on with your WDW accommodation?

AWIDY - I promise we took care of Aussie Wendy for you! A Christmas DISmeet with you? I'm signing up for that one!

I so wish I could catch up with you guys more often. I feel bad for not being there :sad1: Sounds like you had a good time, as always

I made sure I had a dumpling for you! Ok, I probably had one for each of your family too. Only 23 months until you're back now.

Wanderlust - Ssshhh..

Zanzibar - The first one you had was the chicken feet, the second was eel... Would you like me to go on? Hehehe! How is your DH today? I'm guessing you're not talking AFL or using the M word.

Love it! :lmao:

DH didn't end up actually going to the game last night, just watched it on TV. He was not a happy camper and for the first time since we've met, didn't bother to watch the end of the game :sad2: He's back at the home show today, and I can only hope he will be a bit happier by the time he gets home

That's how I'm feeling, too. But, it's all about saving up for our trip at the moment that Melbourne has to wait :worried:

Hi everyone. Back home safely. Thank you very much for organising the get together PIO and everyone who could make it for coming along. Glad I gave you all another excuse! Was lovely to meet everyone-once again reaffirming what great people all who inhabit this board are. :grouphug:

Zanzibar-at least you aren't looking all goggle-eyed! Food was fantastic. Yes, they looked after me very well AWIDY, and I was late this time, having detoured to Qn Vic markets first. We also really liked City Limits where we stayed-first time we have stayed in this part of Melbourne and liked being up "the top end". The room was also spacious for a triple and good to have a kitchenette and basic breaky supplies to keep early risers (like DH) happy until we were ready to have a "second breakfast" later.

DD and I were so full, as was DH from his ventures, that we ended up at la Camera on Southbank sharing a delicious pizza for an early dinner (Moldiva (sp?) being too crowded and Aranji (?sp) being a bit too hot in the late afternoon sun - at least according to my DD). Really enjoyed our meal and a glass of vino by the river. Pirates was good though DH and I found the playing simultaneously of the movie (with the full voice track) while the orchestra provided the score, to be a bit distracting. The orchestra were so good it sounded like the movie track. I had to keep closing my eyes so I could focus on the music. I think I prefer where there is only occasionally visuals to accompany the music (as in Dr Who) but not the whole deal. It was very enjoyable though-this is nitpicking but something we hadn't considered. DD, who can recite the movie virtually word for word - and who is the more musical of all of us, didn't find the movie a distraction at all and said she could focus on the orchestra equally well.

Remember if any of you are up Brisbane way, I and I am sure others, will be happy to host a meet. Have a good week everyone and happy holiday planning, however far away it may be.

Glad you're safely home Wendy and it sounds like the rest of your day went well.

And you weren't late at all.....it was just me being OCD and wondering if you were okay and not lost looking for the restaurant. :thumbsup2

Well I'm back from 'the west' Had a good time catching up with family and enjoying great beaches - we swam every day. Being from Perth absolutly spoils you when it comes to beaches in most places of the world;)

Looks like it was a great DISmeet.

Thanks for the food porn Princess:thumbsup2

Hopfully I will be able to make it to the next Melbourne DISmeet :wave2:

Welcome back, Zaccy. Glad you had a great time out west.

We'll have to think about when to have a next DisMeet. :thumbsup2

We'll have to think about when to have a next DisMeet. :thumbsup2

We've ticked off Feb, March & April. I'm thinking the next DisMeet could be May????

Hopfully I will be able to make it to the next Melbourne DISmeet :wave2:

Here's your chance Zaccy! Would love to catch up again.

To the usual suspects, lurkers and those brave enough to reveal their true identities, now's the time to put your hand up if you're interested in a May DisMeet.

Dates: a Saturday in May (pls PM with the dates that work for you)
Time: morning tea or lunch
Place: TBC but most likely in the Southbank or CBD area.

For those thinking of joining us for the first time but are a little hesitant, have a read back through this thread. We've had a few great DisMeets making new friends locally as well as interstate (AussieWendy QLD) and overseas, ok, that might be pushing it, but it is trans-Tasman (CarolineNZ). The DisMeets aren't just a Disney talkfest but I'd be lying if I said we didn't talk about it at all! Things that are likely to come up are: each of our travel plans both to Disney and other destinations - US road trip, Perth, Cairns, Kota Kinabalu & Brunei; Zanzibar's progress for Run Disney (hopefully it's been injury free); we'll farewell Fairyfloss for WDW or at the very least have a drink in her honour; and lastly, ponder why PIO prefers to use her left hand when clapping with one hand. If you've still got concerns, I'm more than happy for you to PM me. Be brave, we'd love a few new faces to join us!
